Mo VaughnRed Sox first baseman Mo Vaughn (right) was arrested and charged with drunken driving in January 1998. According to the State Police, Vaughn hit a car parked in the breakdown lane of Interstate 95 in Norwood and flipped his pickup truck in the process. Two state troopers called to the scene testified that Vaughn reeked of alcohol and flunked a series of field sobriety tests: he mangled a recitation of the alphabet, stumbled when asked to balance on one foot, and veered off a straight line while trying to take nine steps heel-to-toe. A jury of four men and two women acquitted Vaughn of drunken driving in Dedham District Court. Vaughn said he was "relieved by [the] innocent verdict and has learned a valuable lesson from this incident."
