Dog and harness racing dropped

Beginning today, the Globe will no longer publish racing entries and results from Raynham, Wonderland, Plainridge, and Rockingham Park. Change can be difficult, but the Globe sports section has to evolve along with the changes that have taken place in sports.

Dog tracks were once popular venues, but the interest in dog racing and harness racing is no longer great enough to warrant daily entries and results in the sports pages. In addition, we cannot justify carrying entries and results of New York's thoroughbred tracks while eliminating local ones, so we will no longer publish those.

The interest in thoroughbred racing also has waned, but not to the extent of dog racing, so when Suffolk Downs reopens in the spring, we will continue to publish its entries and results.
