Battle in the rain

Posted by Greg Lee, Globe Staff August 20, 2008 10:36 PM

Good morning from Beijing. I am attending my first ever beach volleyball tournament. Right now the atmosphere is very festive despite the heavy downpour.

The officials are entertaining the crowd with dancing routines from the ladies in swimwear, to a volleyball serving contest and a volleyball match between the Chinese and the rest of the world.

To commemorate the heavy rain fall the DJ started to play "It's Raining Men."

It is time to get ready for the gold medal match between the Chinese team of Jia Tian and Jie Wang and the U.S. team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh.
