Perpetual smog be damned. Fireworks, like the ones seen above during a dress rehearsal, will light the Beijing sky Friday at the Opening Ceremonies for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad. National pride takes center stage as athletes enter the National Stadium totting their country's flag as the Olympics officially launch.

8 p.m.-Midnight -- Opening Ceremonies
