Wakefield's Ronda Rousey won two matches in the 70kg of the Judo competition, but fell in the next round to 2004 silver medalist Edith Bosch of the Netherlands. Rousey is still in contention to medal as she has been classified in the repechage division.

Bosch took the match in Ippon fashion. An ippon is an instant win, match is over.

It was the second Olympics for the 21-year old Rousey.

Rousey defeated Nashiba Surrieva Turkmenistan after first scoring a 1/4 point before winning in Ippon in 2:12.

Then Rousey defeated Katarzyna Pilocik of Poland in 2:12 with an Ippon victory.
