Alex Morgan scored on a header in extra time of the second overtime period to lift the United States women's soccer team to a 4-3 victory over Canada in the Olympic women's soccer tournament semifinals.
The teams played to a 3-3 tie in regulation time.
The victory puts the US in the gold medal game on Thursday against Japan. Japan defeated the United States in the Women's World Cup title game in 2011.
Canada took a 1-0 lead on the first of three goals by Christine Sinclair. The US tied it when Megan Rapinoe scored on a corner kick in the 54th minute.
Sinclair gave Canada a 2-1 lead in the 67th minute, and the US tied on another goal by Rapinoe. After Canada went up 3-2, Abby Wambach tied it 3-3 on a penalty kick awarded in the 80th minute.
