Serena Williams bested big sister Venus again, winning, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4), yesterday in the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships final in Doha, Qatar. It was Serena’s fourth straight win over her sister. She also beat Venus in the round-robin stage of the Doha tournament, the Wimbledon final, and the semifinals in Miami. She leads in head-to-head matchups, 13-10. Serena earned $1.55 million for the win after finishing the event undefeated. She also clinched the year-end No. 1 ranking last week after Dinara Safina pulled out injured in her first match . . . Third-seeded Ivan Ljubicic won his first title in more than two years by beating Michael Llodra, 7-5, 6-3, in the Grand Prix final in Lyon, France . . . Jurgen Melzer defeated top-seeded Marin Cilic, 6-4, 6-3, in Vienna to win the Bank Austria Trophy, his second career ATP title . . . Andre Agassi says in an excerpt from his soon-to-be-released autobiography that he swallowed a pill given to him by his father - apparently when he was a junior player - that he believes could have been the illegal drug speed.

Cook, Roberts claim Champions honors
John Cook won the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship by five strokes for his second Champions Tour title in three weeks, while Loren Roberts held on to win the season points title. Cook closed with a 3-under 69 to finish at 22-under 266 at Sonoma (Calif.) Golf Club. Joey Sindelar, 51, remained hospitalized after suffering a pulmonary embolism during the third round of the tournament . . . Ross Fisher won the 36-hole World Match Play Championship final by beating Anthony Kim, 4 and 3, in Casares, Spain. Fisher, the fourth Englishman to win the event, earned $1.1 million . . . Na Yeon Choi made birdie at the last hole for a 5-under 67, giving her a one-shot victory over Maria Hjorth and Yani Tseng at the Hana Bank KOLON Championships in Incheon, South Korea . . . Ian Poulter shot a final-round 72 to go wire-to-wire and win the Singapore Open by a shot over Liang Wenchong . . . PGA Tour winner Bill Britton won the Senior PGA Professional National Championship, shooting a tournament-record 18-under 270 in Port St. Lucie, Fla., good for a one-stroke victory . . . Han Chang-Won, a 17-year-old from South Korea, won the inaugural Asian Amateur Championship by five strokes in Shenzhen, China, to earn a spot in the 2010 Masters.

Report: Raiders’ Cable has violent past
The former wife of Raiders coach Tom Cable and a recent girlfriend claim Cable has a history of violent behavior toward women, and asked that he seek help for his anger. Sandy Cable and Marie Lutz said in separate interviews on ESPN’s “Outside the Lines’’ that the first-year head coach physically abused them. Cable acknowledged striking Sandy Cable with an open hand in a statement released to the Associated Press. Cable said the altercation happened more than 20 years ago and was the only time he’s ever touched a woman inappropriately. The 44-year-old Cable’s on-field struggles have been mirrored by off-field problems, including an argument in August in which Oakland assistant coach Randy Hanson accused Cable of breaking his jaw during a coaches’ meeting. The Napa County (Calif.) district attorney decided not to pursue charges . . . Browns running back Jamal Lewis says he plans to retire at the end of the season. Lewis has 10,736 rushing yards in his career, which included seven seasons in Baltimore . . . Ten years to the day he died, Walter Payton was honored by the Bears with a ceremony at halftime of yesterday’s game . . . Nebraska star nose tackle Ndamukong Suh has been ticketed for negligent driving after he hit three parked cars. Lincoln Police Captain David Beggs said Suh’s blood-alcohol level of .035 was well below the legal limit of .08.

Chivas ties Galaxy in playoff opener
In Carson, Calif., Maykel Galindo scored in the 50th minute and Chivas USA rallied to tie the Los Angeles Galaxy, 2-2, in the first game of their MLS Western Conference semifinal series. Maicon Santos scored early for Chivas, and Mike Magee and Landon Donovan tallied to give Los Angeles a 2-1 lead at halftime . . . Cushing Academy junior James Kennedy has verbally committed to play basketball at Boston University. The 6-foot-5-inch Dorchester native and BABC member attended Burke his freshman year before enrolling at Cushing . . . Sebastian Vettel won the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in the United Arab Emirates, and Mark Webber hung on for second place to give Red Bull a 1-2 finish in the final Formula One race of the season. Brawn GP driver Jenson Button, who already had wrapped up the drivers’ championship, was third after pushing Webber to the line . . . Peter Forsberg is making a comeback with the Sweden national team for the Karjala Cup, which starts Thursday. Forsberg won two Stanley Cups with the Colorado Avalanche and was the NHL’s MVP in 2003 . . . Alan Ogg, a 7-2 shot-blocker who spent parts of three seasons in the NBA with Miami, Milwaukee, and Washington, died yesterday from complications from a staph infection. He was 42.
