Schiavone into semifinals at Brisbane
BRISBANE, Australia—Third-seeded Francesca Schiavone saved two match points and rallied to beat former No. 1 Jelena Jankovic 5-7, 7-6 (2), 6-3 on Thursday to reach the semifinals at the Brisbane International.
Schiavone, the 2010 French Open winner, saved two match points on her serve in the 12th game of the second set. Then, after winning the tiebreaker and slipping to 3-1 down in the third set, won the last five games to wrap up the quarterfinal victory in just under three hours on her third match point.
Schiavone will face the winner of a later quarterfinal between second-seeded Andrea Petkovic and Kaia Kanepi.
Australian Open champion Kim Clijsters will be aiming to beat Iveta Benesova in a night match to advance to a semifinal against Daniela Hantuchova.
