After a 94-mile-per-hour fastball striking out pinch hitter Seth Smith, Papelbon leaped into the arms of catcher Jason Varitek, celebrating the team's second World Series win in four years. Jon Lester, just one year removed from cancer treatment, won the clincher with 5 2/3 innings of shutout baseball, while Series MVP Mike Lowell hit a home run and a double. Bobby Kielty's pinch-hit home run in the eighth inning proved to be the difference.
