When he signed a seven-year, $142 million contract in the offseason, Carl Crawford was seen as the prize of the free agent market. After a season in which Crawford hit .255 with just 11 home runs and 18 stolen bases, many Red Sox fans likely feel that Crawford's stealing from them directly. Crawford may turn out to be a fine player in Boston, and he was vindicated somewhat by the revelations of clubhouse turmoil that had nothing to do with him. But this wasn't a good way to start.
