Steve Avery
Avery was well-known in baseball as part of Atlanta's "Young Guns" rotation that dominated the National League in the early 90s. Avery signed a one-year deal with the Red Sox in Jan. 1997 for $4.85 million after Roger Clemens bolted for the Blue Jays. Avery, whom the Sox re-signed for $3.9 million in another one-year deal in 1998, never reminded anyone of the power lefty who led the Braves to a World Series title in '95. He went 16-14 in two seasons in Boston with a whopping 5.64 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and 113 walks against just 108 strikeouts.
