8: Geoffrey Mutai sets Boston Marathon recordKenya's Geoffrey Mutai won the Boston Marathon on April 18 in 2 hours, 3 minutes and 2 seconds, breaking the Boston record set in 2010 by countryman Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot (2:05:52) by more than two minutes.
"I was not having ideas about the course record," Mutai said at the time. "I knew I could run well because I'd trained hard and I was confident, but the record was not on my mind."
Mutai's run was the fastest marathon ever run, but is not considered a world record because of the design of the Boston course.
