Winchester senior Nick McIntyre had only played one singles match all season, but he picked a fine time to get his first singles victory in helping Winchester knock off defending state champion Wayland in the boys’ Division 2 North final Saturday at Woburn Racquet Club.
Normally a doubles player, McIntyre was asked by his coach Matt Rose to play third singles against Wayland’s Ethan Heckler, who was undefeated.
Wayland swept the first two singles matches, as Wil Sharton cruised, 6-0, 6-1, and teammate John Goodman turned in a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Winchester dominated the doubles with top duo Yianian Tang and Pat Hayes blanking Wayland, 6-0, 6-0, and Dan Boulanger and Sam Criss nearly as impressive winning, 6-1, 6-1. Full story for BostonGlobe.com subscribers.
