There was clear tension between the Winchester and Concord-Carlisle’s girls’ tennis teams at the MIAA Division 2 North final Sunday at Rahanis Park in Burlington. The Patriots prevailed, 4-1, ousting Winchester a year after ending the Sachems’ five-year state championship reign.
“Winning the first time around was so exciting because we broke Winchester’s incredible streak,” Concord-Carlisle coach Bob Furey said. “This year everyone expected us to win, so we faced a different kind of pressure.”
As North champion, Concord-Carlisle will face South champion Hingham in the state final Tuesday at Lexington, aiming now for a streak of its own after taking the title last season.
