Michaela Donohue’s goal early in the second half was the difference as the No. 3 Dennis-Yarmouth field hockey team squeezed past No. 10 Sandwich, 1-0, on the road Wednesday afternoon.
The matchup featured the Atlantic Coast League’s top two teams, both unbeaten entering the game. In their first showdown in September, the teams played to a scoreless draw. But in Wednesday’s rematch, the Dolphins (11-0-1) prevailed.
“They showed up today,” said D-Y coach Mary O’Connor about her team. “It was a very intense game.”
Junior goalie Max Allen made eight saves to earn the shutout and preserve the win. The one time the ball did get behind Allen, junior Sarah Shea was there to make the save on the goal line to keep the game scoreless in the first half.
