Tianlin Zhang, a Globe all-scholastic as a sophomore after earning Division 2 North sectional medalist honors last fall, beat his score from a year ago by two strokes at this year’s edition.
And he didn’t even win.
His teammate, sophomore Jack Kingman, was the medalist with a one-over 70 at Hillview Golf Course in North Reading, one shot better than Zhang.
The pair was part of a six-golfer contingent from Concord-Carlisle that saw each individual qualify for the state tournament next Monday. The Patriots also took home the team title with an aggregate score of 290, 10 shots better than second-place North Andover. Belmont (302) finished third.
Sean Morahan tied for sixth with a round of 73.
