The snow has melted, the rain has stopped, and the residents of eastern Massachusetts have plogged through another long winter. It was a season of new champions (Hingham in Super 8), familiar faces (St. John's Prep swimming), and a host of great individual performers, led by St. Mary's hockey star Courtney Winters. The Globe and Boston.com toasts the athletes who made this winter a little less chilling and a lot more thrilling. Here are our 10 moments to savor.
Hugging a teammate here is the 6-11 center Carson Desrosiers. He led the Central Catholic Raiders to a Division 1 state title, in which he hit the game-winning shot. More boys basketball stories here.
Katie Zenevitch broke the Central Catholic scoring record and is on her way to Boston College. In her career, she's tallied more than 1,500 points and 1,200 rebounds. More girls basketball stories here.
Blake Ellis earned the all-around state title for the second straight year and won every event but rings (finished second). He's also a four-time all-scholastic. More boys gymnastics stories here.
Barnstable's Leah Pacheco finished her gymnastics career with a fourth state title and fourth all-scholastic nod. She'll continue her success at Souther Connecticut. More girls gymnastics here.
Catholic Memorial's Derek Colucci was the Catholic Conference co-MVP led his team to back-to-back Super 8 finals. This is his second straight All-Scholastic nod. More boys hockey stories here.

Andover's Chris McConnell is the state's fastest runner, winning the 55-meter State Coaches title in Division 1. He was named all-state and All-American. More boys indoor track stories here.
The Boston Latin girls 4x200 relay team is the state's best ever, with a sub-1:45 time at the McIntyre Relay. The team took tops in Division 1, State Coaches and All-State. More girls indoor track stories here.
Waltham's Danielle Scanlon is the state's back-to-back giant slalom champion. She was also on Team Massachusetts at the Easter High School championship for the fourth time. More ski stories here.
St. John's Prep's Brian Brennan, being congratulated by coach Anthony Padvaiskas, is a member of the school's award-winning 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle teams which sweeped the state. More swimming stories here.
Anna Cavanaugh, a member of the Barnstable 400 freestyle relay team, finished her senior year as the Division 1 state champion in the 100 and 200 free. More girls swim stories here.
