Players of the Year

Jeff Wallace, Xaverian
 DIVISION 1
For the second straight season, Wallace has earned Division 1 Player of the Year honors. The University of Rhode Island-bound senior was this season's state champion, shooting a 76 at Glen Ellen Country Club in Millis. Xaverian finished third overall, behind Longmeadow and Banstable. Wallace averaged 36.8 this season and qualified for the tournament in each of his four seasons, placing second as a junior. He's a member of both the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society. During the summer, Wallace competes in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA).
Jon Curran, Hopkinton
 DIVISION 2
After a second-place finish at last year's state championship, Curran captured the individual crown at Franklin Country Club this year. Curran's 71 led Hopkinton to its second consecutive team title. He captured the South sectional title a week earlier at Easton Country Club, also with a 71. Curran captured the 2004 Scott Robertson Memorial Golf Tournament in Roanoke, Va., with a three-round score of 201 (67-68-66). Curran is a three-time American Junior Golf Association All-American. He was named to the Rolex first team in 2004, the second team in 2003, and earned honorable mention in 2002. He will attend Vanderbilt.
Hunter Talcott, Scituate
 DIVISION 3
Talcott, a junior, was the Division 3 state champion, shooting a 73 at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton. The win represents the first MIAA state golf champion in Scituate High history. Talcott, who notched his first hole in one at age 12, tied the course record at Green Harbor Golf Course in Marshfield, where he is club champion, earlier in the season with a 67. As a junior state champion, Talcott surely will get plenty of attention from colleges with strong golf programs. He's a high honors student and in addition to golf, he likes fishing and cars.

Coaches of the Year

Bob Kingman, Barnstable
 DIVISION 1
Barnstable posted an 18-0-1 record, capturing the Old Colony League title with a 6-0 record, and placed second at the MIAA state finals at Glen Ellen Country Club in Millis. This year's team, which was selected for the Sportsmanship Award, shot an overall average 39.6 and had the top six finishers in the league meet. Now in his 15th season as the Red Raiders' coach, Kingman has led Barnstable to 14 league championships and has a coaching record of 268-33-4. Kingman also was named Globe Coach of the Year in 1998. He is a graduate of the University of Maine (1968) and Attleboro High School (1964).
Vincent Pastore, Central Catholic
 DIVISION 2
In his ninth season as coach, Pastore led Central Catholic to its first undefeated season in Merrimack Valley play with a 15-0-1 mark. The Red Raiders finished 18-1-1 overall on the way to a third consecutive league championship. Central Catholic, led by Anthony Gallardo's 80, finished fifth at the state championships in Franklin. Pastore earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Merrimack (1985) and a Masters of Business Administration from Northeastern (1992). He graduated from Malden in 1981, playing both golf and basketball in high school.
Bob Kulaga, Seekonk
 DIVISIONXXX
Kulaga worked nothing short of a miracle this season. Last year the team had a dismal 6-8-2 finish, and with only one senior on this season's team, Seekonk led the squad to the South Coast Conference championship. Kulaga, in his 26th season as coach, led a young team to a 13-2-1 record. The Warriors tied Medfield for the state championship at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton with a score of 328, however Medfield was awarded the title by virtue of its fifth golfer's score. Kulaga attended Rhode Island and Boston Colleges. In addition to golf, he enjoys traveling, running, and theater.

Jeff Cutter, Medfield
 SENIOR
As captain of the Warriors, Cutter led the Medfield squad to the Division 3 state championship. He is an honors student with a cumulative 3.5 GPA. Cutter hopes to attend Bowdoin and play hockey and golf.
Matt Fogarty, Coyle-Cassidy
 JUNIOR
While Coyle-Cassidy failed to qualify for the Division 2 state championship, the Patriots did have a representative. Fogarty's 76 at the South sectionals was good enough to earn a trip to Franklin Country Club. Fogarty finished fourth at the state championships with another 76, just five shots off Jon Curran's blazing pace. As a junior, expect him to be a contender for next year's title. He is the Halifax Country Club champion and won the Boda Memorial Tournament with a 75 at Andover Country Club. Fogarty plays on the NEPGA Junior Tour, where he has notched a pair of wins. He has a 3.4 handicap.

He shot an 81 at the Division 1 state championship at Glen Ellen Country Club in Millis, good for an 11th-place tie. The Eagles narrowly missed placing in the event, again edged by Xaverian for third by a single stroke. O'Connor is an honor student and achieved Summa Cum Laude on the National Latin exam.
Mark Purrington, Dartmouth
 SENIOR
Purrington blew away the competition at the Division 1 South sectionals at Poquoy Brook Golf Club in Lakeville. Purrington's 70 was five shots better than his closest competitor. He is a four-time Eastern Athletic Conference All-Star and the New Bedford Country Club champion. He also plays basketball, tennis, and runs track and enjoys playing with his band. During the summer he competes in the AJGA and in the US Challenge Cup. Purrington plans on attending a prep school and then the University of Rhode Island.
Christopher Tarallo, Xaverian
 SENIOR
Tarallo is a second-time All-Scholastic. After last year's second-place finish at the South sectionals, Tarallo placed third this year, despite shaving a stroke off his score. Tarallo was the top Hawk finisher in Xaverian's first-place win at the South sectionals and its third-place finish at the state championships at Glen Ellen Country Club in Millis. Tarallo shot an 84 at the states. Tarallo also is a member of Xaverian's basketball team and its reigning Division 1 state champion baseball team. Westford continued its strong Dual County League play, capturing yet another title. This season White was awarded Most Valuable Player honors. His low match score is 32 and he plans to attend the University of Connecticut, where he will play golf.
