Brendan Smith, New Hampton

Smith exploded for an outstanding senior season, completing 167 of 218 passing attempts for a 76 percent completion rate. Those numbers were good for 1,544 yards through the air with 18 touchdowns thrown to go with just five interceptions. But not only did Smith mastermind the aerial attack, he was much of the running game as well, racking up a mind boggling 1,682 yards rushing out of the quarterback position. He did so on 112 carries_good for an average of 15 yards per carry. It didn't stop there, as he racked up 6 sacks and a pair of TDs as a safety, to go with 3 TDs as a punt returner. He led New Hampton to the NEPSAC Smith-Sorota championship game, where it beat Worcester Academy, 34-33. Smith plans to attend Northwestern -next fall. | |
Brian Morrissey, Governor Dummer

Though he played both offense and defense for GDA, taking handoffs as a tailback and patrolling the secondary as a cornerback, Morrissey made his mark as a punishing rusher. The 5-foot-10-inch Morrissey ran for 1,762 yards this season while scoring 26 touchdowns and totaling 166 points. His career stats are impressive, too: He has scored 74 touchdowns, 454 points, rushed for more than 4,500 yards, and netted 5,175 total yards.His averaged an eye-popping 7.3 yards per carry. He is a three-time MVP of the team, a three-time All-ISL selection, a two-time All-New England selection, and earned his first ISL MVP award this season. An honor roll student, he will attend Williams in the fall. | |
Joe Bellini, Suffield

Bellini shares player of the year honor with Morrissey after an impressive post-graduate year which saw the running back lead Suffield to the NEPSAC Foster-Hinman title, a 41-18 win over ISL opponent Buckingham, Browne and Nichols. It was a season which saw Bellini amass 1,917 yards rushing on 243 carries which was good for a 7.9 yard average. He reached the end zone 27 times on the ground to go with two receiving TDs and a pair of scores on punt returns. Last season, Bellini was named to the Rhode Island all-state squad in both football and wrestling at Burreville High in R.I. prior to attending Suffield. | |
Kevin Decker, Brunswick

Decker's 16-0 record as a starting high school quarterback speaks for itself. After taking over a 3-1 team in the fifth week of last season, he has guided Brunswick to 16 straight victories, including two NEPSAC championships, defeating Middlesex in 2003 and Governor Dummer in 2004. This year Decker was 10-0, completing 103 of 170 passes (61 percent) for 1,477 yards (14.3 yards per completion) and 18 TDs. For his career, he is 143 for 240 (60 percent) for 2,106 yards (14.7 per completion) and 24 TDs. ``He really knows how to spread the ball around and can throw on the run or in the pocket.'' said coach Sean Brennan. ``I have had the pleasure of coaching four different player of the year winners _ Bernardo Kennedy, Quincy Hills, and Brett Loscalzo _ and Kevin is well in their league. He is still developing his game, but he is clearly on his way.'' | |

Sam Rudman, BB&N

Rudman anchored both the offensive and defensive lines for BB&N this season. On offense, he kept his quarterback safe, not allowing a sack this season (indeed, not allowing a sack throughout his career). On defense, the opposing QB wasn't as lucky. The hulking 6-4 270-pound Rudman recorded 2 sacks, 45 tackles, and 2 forced fumbles. He was a nominee for the Shrine Game. He has been named to the honor roll each of his four years and was a National Merit semifinalist. Rudman also plays basketball and enjoys history and politics. The Charlestown native will attend Amherst in the fall. | |
Brendan Fitzgerald, Groton

A goalkeeper, Fitzgerald was the stopper any team needs to be a contender. With the 6-2 Boxford native patrolling the penalty area, Groton went to the first New England Class C championship game in school history. This success is nothing new for the 185-pound Fitzgerald, who has long been an individual standout, earning first team all-ISL honors three years in a row. He is also a member of the Groton varsity hockey team and the school's honors list. Fitzgerald will be attending Duke in the fall. | |
Jake Duker, Belmont Hill

The 5-10 Duker just completed a career in which he scored an impressive 60 goals and tallied 22 assists while making his Belmont Hill team a consistent threat in the ISL tournament (quarterfinalists in 2001, semifinalists in '03). In his final season, he racked up 22 points, netting 14 goals and eight assists. Duker, a native of Newton, is a three-year high honors student and has a National Latin Exam Book Prize to his credit. He will take his talents to Amherst in the fall. | |
Sarah Parsons, Nobles

Though she may be more known for her hockey exploits (she's a member of the US Under-22 National Team), Parsons is an all-league lacrosse selection, not to mention a pretty darn good soccer player, too. Needless to say, she makes goalies of all kinds quake. In her senior season, Parsons scored 25 goals from her forward position. For her career, she has netted 85 goals and notched 25 assists. The Dover resident excels in the classroom, too, where she earned highest distinction for her academic exploits. She also enjoys skiing, golf, traveling, and photography. She'll be attending Dartmouth in the fall. | |
Chelsey Feole, Brooks

Feole has accomplished much in her three years at Brooks. Just a junior, she was named the ISL MVP and was a first-team ISL selection. As a freshman, she set the state record for most goals in a single season with 28. The 5-foot Feole is a triple-threat athlete for Brooks, playing basketball and softball, too. When she's not competing for her school, she plays field hockey for U19 Cape Ann Coalition and is part of the US Futures program. She plays softball for the U-18 New Hampshire Elite. Feole, a Windham, N.H., resident, hopes to play Division 1 college field hockey. | |
Rachel Greenwood, St. Mark's

Greenwood has been a force to be reckoned with in the prep field hockey ranks for three years. This is the second straight year she has made the ISL All-League team. In 2002, she was an ISL honorable mention selection. In her senior season, she recorded 12 goals and 11 assists. The 5-5, 130-pound forward also plays varsity squash and lacrosse. Greenwood is an honor roll student and enjoys playing the guitar, reading, singing, and hiking. The Williamstown native named Bates as her college of choice. | |
Samuel Moorhead, St. Paul's

Moorhead was the unchallenged top dog on the ISL cross-country circuit this season. He was undefeated during the regular season and won the ISL championship race by 24 seconds. He also broke a 13-year-old course record at Middlesex School and shattered the Milton Academy course record by 22 seconds. Moorhead went on to finish third at the NEPSTA Division 1 championships. The Dedham native is also an accomplished wrestler, placing third in the ISL championship in 2003 and fourth in 2004. Moorhead hopes to attend Bowdoin. | |
Keara Thomas, Governor Dummer

Thomas won her second consecutive ISL title this fall and went on to win the Division 2 New England title. As a sophomore, Thomas is the leader of a dominant Governor Dummer team that has not lost a meet in four years. In her two years at GDA, the Haverhill resident has not been beaten. Thomas also runs outdoor track for the Governors and has two NEPSTA runner-up finishes in the 800 and 1,500. The 5-foot, 100-pound Thomas is involved with dance as both a sport at school and as a hobby. |

The senior right wing from Manchester had 10 goals and three assists this season while serving as captain of her team. She was named MVP of her team for the second consecutive year, as well as earning all-league honors, a designation she also won for the second consecutive year. She was an all-league honorable mention as a sophomore. Outside of school, she plays field hockey with the Cape Ann Coalition. Connolly is also a lacrosse player. Her hobbies include singing. She hopes to play fiel dhockey in college and is considering Wheaton. | |
Peter Gordon, Lexington Christian

Gordon was every goalkeeper's nightmare this season. He scored 42 goals and pitched in with 11 assists (28 and 10 in the league), leading the front line of Lexington Christian's potent attack. For his scoring prowess, Gordon was named league and team MVP. The senior cocaptain amassed 92 goals and 40 assists for his career. He plays club soccer for Boston Blast FC and also plays basketball. He enjoys reading, and, of course, soccer. Gordon is a Headmasters Scholar and among colleges he is considering are Emory, Williams, Brandeis, and Springfield. | |
Dana Bergstrom, Lexington Christian

Sophomore slump? Don't tell that to Bergstrom. After a freshman season in which she scored 25 goals and piled up 18 assists and an All-Scholastic nod, she just got better, netting 38 goals and another 18 assists. After two seasons, she is LCA's all-time leading scorer with 99 career points. She is a repeat team and league MVP. She guided LCA to the NEPSAC Class D championship, scoring six goals and four assists during her team's three-game tournament run. The Billerica native is a high honors student and is planning on playing softball in the spring. | |
Chloe King, Winsor

Wherever King goes, success seems to follow her. As a senior captain, she led Winsor a league championship. She tallied five goals and six assists from her center midfield position this season, and was selected as a first team all-star and league coMVP. She is a four-year letter winner in soccer and was EIL MVP in 2002 and an All-Scholastic. King's club team, the Boston Renegades, took home the 2004 Super Y-League North American Championship. The Wellesley resident is also a four-year varsity basketball player, earning all-star honors last year. She also was a member of Winsor's track team. | |
Nate Hopley, Lexington Christian

As a senior, Hopley anchored his Lexington Christian team from the No. 1 slot, compiling a 12-1 individual record and a 36.5 scoring average en route to his league MVP season. For the third time in his career, he was selected to the EIL All-League team. The 6-0, 165-pound Hopley also excelled in basketball and baseball for Lexington Christian, earning team MVP honors on the hardwood in 2003. The Lexington native sports a 3.35 GPA and has been accepted at Coastal Carolina, though he has not decided on his final college plans. | |
Alex Grant, Pingree

Pingree's No. 1 runner, Grant claimed first place in the EIL this season, and second place at the New England Prep School Track Association (NEPSTA) Division IV championships, leading his team to a second-place finish in the team competition. A senior cocaptain, Grant was named MVP of NEPSTA, as well as MVP of his team. As a junior, he won the Coaches Award at Pingree. He runs for the Merrimack Valley Striders. Grant, who also plays varsity basketball and baseball, is interested in economics and hopes to pursue a business degree in college. | |
Caroline Moriarty, Winsor

Only 13, the 5-foot-3-inch, 98-pound Moriarty led her Winsor team to the league championship this fall, including a sweep of the top three individual places. In the championship race, she ran 21 minutes 16 seconds. She was seventh in the NEPSTA Division 2 championships, setting a PR with a time of 20:49 to earn all-New England status. Just an eighth grader, she was named the league's MVP. The Newton native also plays lacrosse. When she's not running, Moriarty enjoys listening to music. | |

Matt Russell, Phillips Exeter

Following in the footsteps of last year's MVP Joe Metcalf, Russell continued the excellence that is Exeter water polo this season. A senior, he scored an astounding 63 goals and was named MVP of the New England championships, where he scored eight goals and six assists. He has twice been named to the all-tournament team at the Greenwich Tournament, and was an all-New England tournament team member last year. Not surprisingly, he is also a member of the swim team, and was an All-American in the 200 medley as a freshman. He enjoys math, and playing piano and is a student council member at Exeter. He is undecided about college plans. | |
Matias Pietropinto, Worcester Academy

Pietropinto captained his Worcester Academy squad from his midfield position, amassing 10 goals and 11 assists for the season. The 5-foot-6-inch senior was named both team and league MVP. He is Worcester Academy's all-time leader in assists. Pietropinto plays club soccer for the Tri-Valley Eagles and the U-19 Boston Bulldogs. Pietropinto, a Leominster native, also runs track. He is the Worcester Academy Multicultural Club President and is undecided about his college plans. | |
Arno Ferguson, Phillips Exeter

Ferguson, who is from Croatia, is familiar with distances. In this, his senior season, he ran down the competition in capturing the NEPSTA Division 1 championship in 16:23 and leading his team to an undefeated season in the NEPSAC. He was team MVP, and holds the school record, and the course record. He has been on the team in each of his four years of high school, and is also a member of the track team. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the guitar. He is a high honors student and is undecided about his future plans. | |

Only a sophomore, this talented young runner still has two more years to keep running past the competition. Her extraordinary success was highlighted by a victory in the Division 1 NEPSTA championship in 19:57. Last year she finished 11th at the USATF Junior Olympics. She is also an outstanding swimmer, garnering All-American honors in five events and was a Junior National finalist. In her spare time, she swims for the New England Barracudas, and runs cross-country for the Lynx Elite. She is a high honors student at Exeter. |

Meaghan Martin, Taft

Martin, a setter, was dominant this season as the main distributor for Tafts. The 5-foot-9-inch senior captain was named league MVP in her final season. A Wellington, Fla., native, she is a former Founders League all-league performer, earning that honor in 2002 and '03. Martin also is captain of the Tafts crew. In her spare time, she enjoys photography and is undecided about her college plans. Before Taft, Martin was a member of the Palm Beach (Fla.) 16 Travel Club and a Junior Olympian. | |
