Thomas Turco, Barnstable

Turco has guided Barnstable to two straight Division 1 state championships and he and the Red Raiders haven't tasted defeat in their last 50 games, a streak that stretches back to the 2002 season. In his 17-year career at the school, he has compiled a record of 372-43, a .896 winning percentage. Turco praised his players this season for their hardworking and team-oriented habits. He has been inducted into the Massachusetts Girls Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. The 50-year-old Turco is a graduate of Billerica High and Bridgewater State (1976). In his spare time, he enjoys traveling. | |
Denise Levesque, Case

In her five years at Case, Levesque has taken her team to the state finals three times (2001, '03, '04), and won a state championship in 2001 while compiling a 93-23 record (.802 winning percentage). This season, her Cardinals finished 22-3 and runner-up in Division 2. They were South Coast Conference champs for the second consecutive season. Having a squad like this Cardinal team allows a coach to go to the next level of play, Levesque said. The 41-year-old has coached three consecutive Bay State Games gold medal teams. She is a graduate of Somerset High (1981) and Bridgewater State ('85). | |
Tim Acton, Bourne

Three days after turning 51, Acton guided the Canalmen to the Division 3 state championship. They compiled a 21-5 record en route to the championship. He credited the championship to a hard-working group of players who believed in themselves. In his two years as the varsity head coach, he has a won 80 percent of his games, a 40-10 record. He is a 1972 graduate of Barnstable High, where he played football, basketball, and ran track. In his spare time he enjoys playing volleyball, sailing, and coaching club volleyball. | |

Delia Glover, Barnstable

Glover was the leader of Barnstable's tremendous trio. This season, she captained the Red Raiders to an undefeated season and the Division 1 state championship while recording 259 digs and a 96 percent serve percentage. Since becoming a starter two years ago, her teams have won 50 matches and lost none. She is also a high-scoring lacrosse player, leading her team in scoring for the past two seasons. Glover has never failed to make the honor roll in three years and is a Silver Medalist in the National Latin Exam. She enjoys snowboarding and volunteers for hospice. | |
Amanda Machado, Case

Throughout her productive career at Case, Machado did the dirty work, and it paid off. Machado has compiled more than 1,000 digs in four seasons, a school record. In those four years, Case has reached the finals three times and was the state champion in 2001. For the past two seasons, Machado was a South Coast Conference All-Star and she was named captain this season. Machado is also a member of Case's powerhouse softball team, which won the 2004 Pony National Championship. She is the editor of the school yearbook and is a Wendy's Heisman Scholarship nominee. She plans to be an art major in college and play both softball and volleyball. | |
Hilary Teichert, Bourne

Teichert was the productive center of a Bourne squad that finished with a 21-5 record this season. The 6-footer led her team from the middle hitter position and simply filled up the stat sheet. A senior, she recorded 267 kills (a .426 kill percentage) and 92 blocks and earned a selection to the South Coast Conference All-Star first team. Teichart also plays AAU basketball for the Bay State Bombers. She is a high honors student and will play volleyball at the next level at UMass-Dartmouth. | |

Elizabeth Auger, Barnstable

The 5-foot-10-inch Auger was the catalyst for her Barnstable team, which recorded a triple this season, taking home titles in the Old Colony League, the South sectional, and the Division 1 state championship. She nailed 164 kills during the season from her middle blocker position. She is an honor roll student and also plays basketball and softball. Auger plays club volleyball for the Cape Cod Juniors. Her hobbies are listening to music and surfing. The Centerville resident hopes to attend college in California. | |
Molly Barrett, Medfield

For the second consecutive season, Barrett was named to the Tri-Valley League first team. The 5-9 outside hitter was also named the league's MVP. Barrett is an honor roll student and also plays basketball for Medfield. She has competed in the Bay State Games and plays club volleyball for Massachusetts Patriots Elite, for whom she has earned all-tournament honors in the Rhode Island Blast Tournament. She enjoys going to the beach and shopping. Barrett hopes to play volleyball in college. | |
Maxine Barry, Chelmsford

Barry was Chelmsford all-everything this season, leading the Lions to the Division 1 state semifinals. She was named Merrimack Valley Division 1 Player of the Year and was an all-league first team selection. The 5-8 captain helped Chelmsford win consecutive league titles and North sectional championships. She has been named to the honor roll and is a former student of the month. She has competed in the Bay State Games for two years and has participated in the Merrimack Valley Junior Olympics. | |
Jules Burnstein, Brookline

Burnstein, a senior, brought experience (3-year starter), leadership (2-time co-captain), and productivity (more than 450 assists for the season) to her squad this season. Working as the team's setter, she compiled a .452 setting percentage and recorded 38 aces, 55 kills, and 78 digs. She is also a member of the Brookline indoor track team. The 5-6 Burnstein is a member of the National Honor Society and is a National Merit Commended Scholar. She is hoping to play volleyball at Haverford College in the fall. | |
Erin Connolly, North Quincy

Connolly had a strong individual season, racking up 261 kills and 70 blocks, boosting the Red Raiders' run to the state semifinals. The 5-11 Connolly was a 2003 Old Colony League All-Star. She plays her club volleyball for the Massachusetts Patriots Elite. Connolly is an honor roll student and is a letterwinner at North Quincy in both basketball and track. She enjoys music and going to the gym. The middle hitter is hoping to further her volleyball career in college. | |
Ale Kuncaitis, Canton

A triple-threat athlete for Canton, Kuncaitis excelled on the volleyball court for Canton in her final season. She led her team in kills, working from both the setter and outside hitter positions. The 5-9 Kuncaitis was named a Massachusetts Girls Volleyball Coaches Association first team all-star and was also voted the MVP of the Hockomock League. She also led her team in kills in her junior season, when she was an MGVCA second team selection. She plays both basketball and lacrosse, and is a two-time league all-star in the latter. Kuncaitis is a member of the Century Club and the National Honor Society and is undecided about her college plans. | |
Meredith Lawler, Lynnfield

Lawler, a senior, captained Lynnfield and was the North Shore and Cape Ann Player of the Year while leading the Pioneers to a North sectional championship and a trip to the state semifinals. She was also voted team MVP for her play as a middle hitter. The 5-11 Lawler is a three-time league all-star and was a part of Lynnfield's four consecutive league titles. She also plays basketball for Lynnfield. Lawler has a 4.0 GPA and is a recipient of the Lynnfield High Faculty Book Award. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. | |
Katherine Masson, New Bedford

Masson captained a New Bedford team that finished the season without a blemish. She was named a Big 3 Conference All-Star for the third consecutive season and a Massachusetts Coaches first team All-State selection. Balancing books and balls is never easy for scholar-athletes, but the 6-foot outside hitter succeeded; she was named a Gold Scholar Athlete while being dual-enrolled at UMass-Dartmouth during the season. She is ranked in the top 1 percent of her high school class and is a member of the National Honor Society. | |
Ashley McQuillin, Lincoln-Sudbury

In her four years at L-S, McQuillin has been busy accumulating honors in volleyball, basketball, and in the classroom. For the third consecutive season, she was named to the Dual County League All-Star team and was chosen as the league's MVP and her team's most valuable player in her senior season. In basketball, she has captained the Warriors and is a three-time letter winner. She carries a 3.87 GPA and has won several awards, including the Spanish Merit Award and Smith Book Award. She wants to study genetics in college. | |
Carly Newton, Barnstable

Newton and teammate Auger were two-thirds of Barnstable's top trio, which also included Glover, which led the team to the Division 1 championship. It was the team's cohesiveness that Division 1 Coach of the Year Tom Turco lauded; Auger and Newton often seemed each other's mirror image. The 5-10 juniors were paired up front and became the team's firepower, as Newton recorded 211 Kills. Newton plays club volleyball with the Cape Cod Juniors. She enjoys music and surfing and hopes to attend college in California. | |
Nicole O'Sullivan, Quincy

From her middle-hitter position, O'Sullivan led the Presidents to the Atlantic Coast League title, Central sectionals championship, and an appearance in the Division 1 state championship game. During the season, she recorded more than 300 kills, 130 digs, and 64 service aces. For the third consecutive season, she was a league all-star. This season, the 5-10 O'Sullivan was named to the MGVCA first team. She is an MIAA Gold Medal recipient and will graduate with distinction from Quincy. She hopes to play volleyball and study nursing in college. | |
Karen Sen, Melrose

Sen picked up her pace in the state tournament, recording 24 kills in the North sectional quarterfinal, 22 in the sectional final, and 19 in the state semifinal. The 5-11 middle hitter helped the Red Raiders capture the Middlesex League championship for the second consecutive year. She set a single-season record for kills at Melrose with 268 and her coach, Scott Celli, called her ``the most dominant hitter that we have ever had at Melrose, she is fearless.'' Sen played Junior Olympic volleyball for the North Shore Juniors Program. Sen would like to study at a liberal arts college. | |
