Players of the Year

Brendan Singleton, St. John’s
 DIVISION 1
  Singleton was a Division 1 sectional medalist for the second consecutive year and he led the Prep to a fourth-place tie at the state tournament with league rival BC High. The senior captain led his team with a shot average of 37.5. He was the New Hampshire Player of the Year in 2002 and 2003 and the US Challenge Cup Invitational Champion in November of 2003. He also was the New England Junior Amateur champion in 2003. Singleton participated in the American Junior Golf Association Junior Tour over the summer. He lists art, photography, and cars as his interests and plans to study finance in college.
Michael Gunderson, Duxbury
 DIVISION 2
  The junior captain was the Division 2 state champion and a Patriot League All-Star this season while compiling a 37.3 scoring average at Duxbury. He won the Norfolk County Junior Classic at Presidents Golf Course in Quincy. Gunderson had a top-10 finish at an American Junior Golf Association event in Virginia this summer and plans to play a full AJGA schedule beginning next April. He also finished second at a Future Collegian World Tour event in Newport, R.I., and is scheduled to play in at least four other FCWT events this winter. In addition to golf, Gunderson also enjoys skiing in his spare time.
C.J. Estes, Medfield
 DIVISION 3
  Estes was the Division 3 state individual champion with a 73 and he led Medfield to a second-place finish. He also shot a 79 at the South sectionals and came in second at the Tri-Valley League tournament. The junior cocaptain had a 12-2-4 record in match play and a 43-4-6 career record. His 25 straight wins spanning the ’04 and ’05 seasons was a school match-play record. Medfield won the Division 3 state tournament in ’03 and ’04. Estes also plays on the two-year Division 3 state champion lacrosse team and Team Breakaway. He has participated in the NEPGA Junior Tour.

Coaches of the Year

Ron Brown, BC High
 DIVISION 1
  BC High captured the Catholic Conference title and the Division 1 South sectional championship while going 12-0 this season. It was BC High’s second consecutive undefeated season (24-0). Brown, who coached the wrestling team for 23 years before retiring in 1999, was also named Boys’ Golf Division 1 Coach of the Year in 1999. This was his 20th season and his teams have compiled a 174-60-10 record. Brown graduated from Franklin & Marshall in 1973 and from Bedford High School in Pennsylvania in 1969. In addition to playing golf, Brown also enjoys collecting sports cards and memorabilia.
Brent Pearsall, Sandwich
 DIVISION 2
  Pearsall coached Sandwich to the Division 2 state championship in just his second year on the job. His team also collected the Atlantic Coast League title, the South sectional championship, and the ACL Sportsmanship Award en route to a 14-3 record. Pearsall also coaches the lacrosse team at Sandwich. He is a 1992 graduate of Salem State, where he played soccer on a team that twice reached the national semifinals. He is a 1984 graduate of Barnstable High School, where he played on the golf team. Pearsall counts beach volleyball as one of his hobbies in addition to spending time with his wife and two kids.
Mary O’Brien, Weston
 DIVISION 3
  In just her third year as coach of the Weston High School golf team, O’Brien coached her team to a 10-5-1 record and the Division 3 North sectional title. It was the first postseason tournament Weston won in its nine-year history and the first time Weston won 10 matches. O’Brien has announced and scored Weston swim meets for 14 years and was recognized by the Eastern Mass Swim Coaches Association with the Distinguished Service Award in 2003. She is a graduate of Simmons College (1970) and she earned her master’s degree in education from Lesley University (1999). She graduated from Lynn English in 1966.

Robert Beattie, Foxboro
 SENIOR
  Beattie, the Foxboro team MVP and senior cocaptain, finished his high school career with a 60-4 record and a Division 3 state championship. His score of 81 in the State Championship placed him eighth individually. He also placed first in the Division 3 South sectional tournament with a score of 69 and led his team to its first-place finish in that tournament. Beattie’s shot average of 39 was second best on the three-time Hockomock League champions. The league all-star plays ping-pong in his spare time and plans on playing golf in college.
Colin Brennan, Andover
 JUNIOR
  This Merrimack Valley Conference Player of the Year did not score more than 37 in a single match this season. His season shot average of 35 bolstered his 12-4 match-play record. He placed third in the Division 1 North sectional individual tournament and helped lead his team to a second-place finish. He tied for 10th in the state tournament with teammate James Gaffney with a 79 and led Andover to a ninth-place finish. Brennan finished third in the Massachusetts Junior Amateur and fourth in the New England Junior Invitational. He is also a two-year starter for the hockey team.
Brad Cadigan, BC High
 FRESHMAN
  The future of BC High’s golf team looks bright with Cadigan in the fold. The freshman shot a 77 at the Division 1 state championship this year, tying for sixth place individually, and led the Eagles to a fourth-place tie with league rival St. John’s Prep at the state tournament. Cadigan also placed third in the Division 1 South sectional tournament and placed fourth in the Massachusetts Golf Association State Championship. He had two holes-in-one this past summer, one at Squirrel Run in Plymouth and the other at the Jerry Haas School at Wake Forest University. Cadigan will lace up for the freshman hockey team this winter.
Chad Crocker, Barnstable
 SENIOR
  The senior captain led his team to a second-place finish in the Division 1 South sectional tournament and a seventh-place finish in the state tournament. He shot a low round of 34 at the Hyannisport Club and was the champion of the Cape and Islands Schoolboys Championship, a 27-hole tournament, with a 3-over par score of 110. The two-time recipient of the NEPGA’s Cape Cod Chapter Player of the Year award has spent three seasons on the varsity hockey team. Crocker plans to attend Methodist College where he will study business administration with a concentration in professional golf management.
Jay Driscoll, BC High
 SENIOR
  Driscoll led BC High to the Division 1 South sectional and Catholic Conference titles with a third-place and a second-place finish, respectively. He also shot a 31 at the Wollaston Golf Club, a league low. He was second at the Independent School League championship in his sophomore year, playing for Milton Academy. Driscoll had a fourth-place finish at the 2005 Mass. Golf Association State Junior and was a member of team Massachusetts at the 2004 New England Invitational. He hopes to play hockey for the Eagles and is planning on taking a prep year before attending college.
Chris Fitzpatrick, CM
 JUNIOR
  Fitzpatrick established himself as one of the best in the talented Catholic Conference with a second-place individual finish in the conference championship. The three-year conference all-star was the Division 1 South sectional individual winner and had a shot average of 36 this season. Fitzpatrick was the youngest to qualify for the Mass. State Amateur with a score of 1-under 71 and he won the 2003 Bay State Games with a 73. In addition to golf, he also plays varsity basketball for a Knights team that won the Division 1 South sectional last year.
Brian Jasset, Norwood
 SENIOR
  The senior cocaptain capped off his career with a tie for a first at the Division 2 South sectionals and a second-place finish in the state tournament. He went 12-2-2 in individual matches and finished with a 35.93 stroke average en route to being a two-time Bay State League All-Star. He also won the NEPGA Titleist Junior Tour Stroke Play Tournament in 2005. Jasset is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Foreign Language Honor Society (Spanish), and has earned high honors in every term. He hopes to attend Bentley, Boston College, Babson, or Wake Forest to study business.
Michael Kinchla, Sandwich
 SENIOR
  Kinchla teamed up with fellow Globe All-Scholastic Erik Robinson to lead Sandwich to the Division 2 state championship, shooting a 78 at Holden Hills. The three-time Atlantic Coast League individual champion and two-time league all-star had a 14-3 record. He was a captain of the Blue Knights team that also won the league title. Kinchla has also participated on the NEPGA Titleist Junior Tour and in USGA qualifiers in the summer season. He has a 4.1 GPA and hopes to attend Boston University to study communications and play golf. When he is not golfing, Kinchla likes to ski, fish, and play poker and videogames.
Craig Kublin, Needham
 JUNIOR
  Kublin led Needham to a sixth-place finish at the state tournament with a score of 80 and tied for 14th in that tournament. He tied for first in the Division 1 South sectional tournament (78) and led his team to a third-place finish. He represented New England in the 2005 Westfield Junior PGA Championship. Kublin was the 2005 Blue Hill Country Club champion and finished 12th in the AJGA tournament at Canoe Brook. The Bay State League All-Star and honor roll student also plays for the basketball team and enjoys movies and music.
Michael Pyne, Foxboro
 JUNIOR
  Pyne led Foxboro to the Division 3 state title with a 3-over par 75 at Pembroke CC. He contributed to Foxboro’s first-place finish at the Division 3 South sectionals and its third straight Hockomock League title. The Warriors have a 46-2 record in three years at Foxboro. Pyne was the team MVP and had a scoring average of 38. He was a medalist at the 2005 Massachusetts Golf Association Junior Championship and he qualified for the 2005 US Challenge Cup. He finished 14th at the Men’s Attleboro Open this summer. Pyne plays baseball at Foxboro and Legion baseball in the summer.
Erik Robinson, Sandwich
 SENIOR
  Robinson, with fellow All-Scholastic Michael Kinchla, led Sandwich to the Division 2 state championship with a score of 7-over par 78 at Holden Hills CC. The two-time Atlantic Coast League All-Star won the ACL individual tournament as a sophomore and played at No. 1 in his junior and senior years. Sandwich went 41-11 in three years on the varsity. He has played in US Challenge Cup Tournaments, Future Collegian World Tour Tournaments, and USGA Junior Qualifiers. Robinson also plays basketball for Sandwich and hopes to study business or professional golf management in college.
Josh Savel, Lincoln-Sudbury
 SENIOR
  The senior captain carried his team to the Division 2 North sectional championship and a third-place finish in the state championship with his score of 6-over-par 77 at Holden Hills CC. Savel, the team MVP, also took his team to the top of the Dual County League with a 4-over par 76 in the conference championship at Weston Golf Club. He was a four-year starter on the team and played in the top three over the last three years. Savel has participated in four Team USA Junior matches during the summers and also plays ice hockey for Lincoln-Sudbury. He remains undecided on his college plans.
