The All-Scholastics

Jack DeJesus, Pingree
 EIL SOCCER
DeJesus posted a stellar .62 goals against average in 2006 against league opponents, leading his team to a 16-1 record before it lost to South Kent in double overtime in the New England Prep Class C semifinals. The goalkeeper took home his share of hardware this season, receiving a team MVP award, an all-league honorable mention, and the coach's award to go with his most improved award from lacrosse last season. The 5-foot-10-inch DeJesus has been the starting goalie since sophomore year and maintained a GAA less than 1. Hailing from Swampscott, the senior wants to attend Endicott College, Suffolk University, or Salve Regina University.
Andrew Stuntz, LCA
 EIL CROSS-COUNTRY
There wasn't much room for improvement when Stuntz finished third at the Eastern Independent League championship in 2005 in his first season of competitive running, but improve he did. The 5-foot-10-inch junior from Belmont played second fiddle to no one this season, coming in first by six seconds over his closest competitior. In the NEPSTA Division 5 championship, he took home third-place honors. He'll be back next year, though the team will lose four seniors, to help Lexington Christian improve on its second-place finish in the EIL. A member of the honor roll, Stuntz's hobbies include juggling, singing, and reading. Stuntz also plays lacrosse.
Kate Cushing, Pingree
 EIL FIELD HOCKEY
Cushing took home honors as the team and league MVP. Her 14 goals and 10 assists made her the leading scorer on Pingree and helped the team to an undefeated season and an EIL championship Whether it was carrying out her duties as captain or earning the sportsmanship award for her on-the-field actions, Cushing set a shining example for the rest of the Pingree girls. A lacrosse and volleyball cocaptain, Cushing is a three-sport athlete, earning her end-of-the-year accolades from the Salem News and Boston Globe in 2005. She enjoys model United Nations and plans to play lacrosse and field hockey in college.
Kate Bulger, Winsor School
 EIL CROSS-COUNTRY
The second half of the Bulger twin sister duo, eighth-grader Kate stole the show in her first varsity season, winning the Division 2 New England championship. She shared the EIL championship and league MVP awards with her sister, while also earning a spot on the All-New England cross-country team. And as if it were not difficult enough to differentiate between the sisters, Kate also set a personal best in the 5K, running ..... you guessed it, 20:09. Kate is a member of the Winsor hockey and track teams, and enjoys skiing in her spare time. Both she and her sister have plenty of time to figure out their college plans.
Zoe Bulger, Winsor School
 EIL CROSS-COUNTRY
We might as well reserve a space for the Bulger sisters on this list for the years to come. Only an eighth-grader, Zoe finished her first varsity season as co-EIL champion and co-league MVP. Her third-place finish in the Division 2 New England Championships earned her a spot on the New England All-League team. She set a personal 5K record with a time of 20:09, but there's a good chance she'll spend her high school career trimming seconds off that time. The 14-year-old is a member of the hockey, sailing, and track teams, and enjoys skiing in her free time.
Max Campion, Beaver CD
 EIL GOLF
His surname often makes people do a double take: Campion certainly played like a champion this season, leading his team on a 14-0 campaign. As a sophomore, Campion could only improve on his 2005 one-loss season one way: by going undefeated. He accomplished that goal by rolling to a 14-0 season. Campion added a Future Collegians World Tour victory to his trophy case and was named a second team All-American by the FCWT after finishing in the top 15 in points. Campion's other interests include fishing and boating and the honor roll student would like to attend college and listed Davidson, Emory, and Wake Forest as possible choices.
Eric Tankanow, Bancroft
 EIL GOLF
Eric Tankanow has his own golf trading card. The senior, captured in a follow through on a bright and sunny day, adorns a Westfield Junior PGA Championship card, a tournament he won in 2006. His career at Bancroft has certainly been bright and sunny as Tankanow has earned a 35-5-1 record. The captain and honor roll student was named team MVP with a scoring average of 35.7 after being named the team's most improved player in 2005. The 5-foot-6-inch golfer also plays basketball and was the team MVP in 2005. He enjoys cards, listening to music, and working out, and is undecided on his college plans.
Jillian DiBenedetto, Dana Hall
 EIL SOCCER
MVP of the league? Check. Leading goal scorer? Check. There wasn't much that senior forward DiBenedetto didn't do this year. The 5-foot-2-inch ball of energy from Somerville gave her all on the pitch and her offensive weapons gave Dana Hall a chance to win every game it played. The team finished the regular season 11-0-4 and placed first in the league and second in the tournament. The team was seeded sixth in the Class B NEPSAC tournament and reached the quarterfinals before losing to Greenwich Academy, 1-0. DiBenedetto has made back-to-back appearances on the Globe's All-Scholastic page. DiBenedetto also plays lacrosse. She has not yet made a college decision.
William Hennrikus, Groton
 ISL SOCCER
The 6-foot-2-inch center back led a Groton backline that allowed only 10 goals in 17 games, including nine shutouts, en route to a 12-3-2 record. A two-time captain, Hennrikus played in every minute of every game for Groton in his senior year. His defensive presence led the team to a return to the New England Class B Tournament for the first time since 1991; Groton bowed out to Berkshire in the semifinals. The native of Fresno, Calif., is an honor roll student who also captains the crew team at Groton. He enjoys writing in his spare time and is a sailing and surfing instructor in the summer. He plays in the Fresno Indoor Soccer League at home and plans to row for a Division 1 college.
Andrew Olsen, Thayer
 ISL SOCCER
Back-to-back could be Andrew Olsen's middle name. The 6-foot midfielder from Norwell led his team to back-to-back ISL championships. By scoring 17 goals and adding up six assists this season, Olsen earned the second of back-to-back ISL offensive player of the year and MVP honors. The captain of the Thayer boys' soccer team was also named an NSCAA/Adidas All-American. In 2005, Olsen set school records for goals (21) and assists (15). He plays for the Mass Premier Soccer Crusaders when he's not on the field for the Tigers. Olsen earned his spot on the high honor roll and enjoys music and snowboarding.
Peter Harrison, St. Paul's
 ISL CROSS-COUNTRY
Harrison didn't have to eat much dust this season, placing first in three races for the St. Paul's cross-country team, including taking home the trophy in the NEPSTA Division 1 championship. But his most convincing race may have been the ISL championship in which he beat the runner-up by a 12-second margin. The 6-foot-1-inch senior is captain of the varsity basketball and track and field teams and earned all-ISL honors in track and field. He's also the only Big Red runner to win both the ISL and New England individual championships in cross-country. Harrison hopes to attend Amherst College.
Jennifer Parker, St. Paul's
 ISL FIELD HOCKEY
This senior cocaptain helped the St. Paul's field hockey team improve from a 6-7-1 record in 2005 to 7-5-2 this season, including a 2-1 victory over Lawrence in the season finale, in which Parker scored the first goal and assisted on the winner. An all-league honorable mention in 2004, Parker was the team's leading scorer with seven goals, playing the upfield forward position for the Big Red, and brought home her second consecutive all-league honors. The team won the ISL sportsmanship award. Parker is a Walker Scholar who hopes to attend Yale. The 5-foot-8-inch senior runs track in the spring and includes running as one of her main interests. Parker hails from New York City.
Nathan Richman, Thayer Academy
 ISL FOOTBALL
At 6 feet 6 inches and 275 pounds, Richman's large frame helped provide protection for Thayer's quarterbacks all season and his size gave opposing offensive lines trouble trying to keep the senior tackle out of the backfield on defense. He is a two-year captain of the track team. As a junior, he was second in New England in the shotput and the discus. He won all-league honors in football and track and field as a junior. His sophomore season he was honorable mention in both sports. Richman, from North Easton, became one of only eight Massachusetts high school football players nominated for the Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio Jan. 6. He will attend Boston College.
Keara Thomas, Governor's Academy
 ISL CROSS-COUNTRY
The 5-foot-2-inch senior finished her career at Governor's as she started it: without a loss. A three-time All-Scholastic, Thomas never suffered defeat in four years of competition. In fact, the ISL champion never really came close. At the NEPSTA Division 3 championships, Thomas finished 1 minute 5 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. The closest the Haverhill native came to losing was a 22-second margin of victory at her home course, a race in which she shaved 13 seconds off her school record with a time of 18:54. Thomas also enjoys dance and track and trains with the Lynx Elite Athletic Club.
Dariel Bennett, Brooks
 ISL SOCCER
Bennett captured the girls' Golden Boot Trophy this fall, awarded to the high school player in the Merrimack Valley with the most goals. The 5-foot-4-inch senior striker's 21 goals and five assists helped guide the Brooks team to a 10-5-2 record. For her three-year career at Brooks, Bennett was credited with 48 goals and 14 assists. Bennett also plays for the Seacoast United Soccer Club and played on the 2004 Super-Y National Champion team. Bennett flourishes as a student as well, garnering high honor roll honors and is a senior prefect, a top leadership position appointed by the Brooks headmaster. She also plays hockey and is looking at Middlebury, Colgate, Lafayette, and American as possible college choices.
Sam Groves, Worcester Academy
 PREP SOCCER
Groves scored 16 goals and recorded 19 assists in 48 career games at Worcester Academy - putting him second all-time in career points at the school - but it was his unselfish play that had coaches raving about him as a ''total team player.'' The team completed an undefeated regular season and Groves scored the only two goals for Worcester Academy in the New England Class A playoffs to propel the Hilltoppers to their first semifinal. An honor roll student, Groves has plans to attend the University of Hartford. He plays for the F.C. Greater Boston Bolts and the '88 Massachusetts Olympic Development Team. Groves enjoys fishing in his free time.
Bianca D'Agostino, Loomis Chaffee
 PREP SOCCER
She's from Longmeadow, Mass., but D'Agostino has finished her soccer career as Connecticut's Player of the Year for 2006 as well as a selection to the All-State, All-New England, and All-American teams. She was a Connecticut All-State recipient for four years. In 65 games on the varsity squad, she had 76 goals and 44 assists for a team that went 73-3-1 in four seasons, and not surprisingly, finished as Class A Champions three times with D'Agostino on the team. The senior also is a member of the track team, and enjoys coaching club soccer. D'Agostino is planning to attend Penn State University next fall.
