Swimmers of the Year

Division 1
Laura Moriarty, Methuen
A four-time MVC Division 2 swimmer
of the year and four-time Division
1 state champion in the breaststroke,
Moriarty won the 200 IM and
100 breast at the state meet and set
records in both. She will continue her
swimming career at North Carolina.

Division 2
Caitlin Cronin, Notre Dame of Hingham
Cronin won the 100 freestyle at the
state meet and was part of Notre
Dames champion 200-medley and
400-free relays. ND also took home
the state title. She was a junior national
qualifier in the 50 free, and
swims for the Weymouth Waves.
Coach of the Year

Division 2
Mike Riley, Notre Dame of Hingham
Riley led the Cougars to a 12-0 record
and the MIAA Division 2 state championship.
In seven years at Notre
Dame, Riley has compiled a 95-5-1
record and was Coach of the Year in
2004. He is currently coaching the
Weymouth Waves.
All-Scholastics

200 freestyle
Kristi Korsberg, Andover
The MVC Co-Swimmer of the Year
was a state champion in the 200
medley relay and 200 free. A fourtime
All-Scholastic, she added MVC
wins in the 200 IM, 200-medley relay,
and 400-free relay to her achievements.
She will attend Harvard.

50 free
Amy O'Brien, Lexington
OBrien was the 50 free champ in the
Middlesex League, North Sectionals,
and the Division 1 state championship.
She went undefeated for the
season and won her third straight
state championship. She also qualified
for the US Sectionals.

100 butterfly
Sarah Kanellas, Lowell
The four-time MVC All-Conference
member and team captain, Kanellas
was state champion in the 100 fly and
earned second in the 50 free. She was
also third in the 50 free and 100
butterfly at North sectionals. She
holds school records in those events.

100 free/back
Erica Belcher, Reading
It wasnt a bad rookie season for
Belcher, as she captured the Division
1 state championship in the 100
backstroke and 100 free, breaking
eight school records. Last March, the
honor student attended her first
junior national competition.

500 free
Katelyn Martin, Chelmsford
Martin was unbeaten in the 500
freestyle in her high school career,
with four state championships and a
state record 4:56.37. The National
Honor Society member will attend
North Carolina. She was also on the
state champion 400 free relay.

200 free
Julie Magyar, Bishop Feehan
She edged her teammate, Erin Foley,
for the 200 freestyle state championship.
A New England seniors
qualifier, Magyar is ranked 10th in
New England in the 1,500 free. She
swims for Seacoast Swimming Association.

100 fly/200 IM
Anna Senko, Winchester
She was a Division 2 state champion
in the 100 butterfly (58.72) and 200
IM (2:07.65), winning the fly by more
than two seconds. She added Middlesex
and North Sectional titles to her
mastery of the 100 fly. She was an
All-Scholastic as a freshman.

50 free
Amina Meho, Burlington
Meho tied Notre Dame of Hinghams
Caitlin Cronin to share the Division 2
state championship in the 50 freestyle
after taking second in the sectionals
and the Middlesex League
meet. She placed eighth in the YMCA
Nationals in Florida.

100 back/500 free
Meaghan Grimes, Dracut
Grimes followed up her MVC titles in
the 500 free and 100 backstroke with
victories in the Division 2 state championship.
At North sectionals, she
was second in the 100 back. The
honor student swims for the Magnus
Aquatic Group in the offseason.

100 breast
Kristen Connors, Bishop Feehan
The All-America honoree was state
champion in the 100 breaststroke
and a member of the state champion
200-free relay team. A four-time
Southern Conference All-Star and a
member of the National Honor Society,
Connors will swim at BU.

diving
Katie O'Connell, Andover
She added to Andovers dominance
by defending her North Sectional and
Division 1 state championship handily,
surpassing her personal bests in
the process. Andover won its ninth
straight state title. She also competed
in the AAU Nationals.

diving
Rachael Peterson, Wellesley
She was the MIAA Division 2 state
champion after earning a secondplace
finish in the South sectional
meet. She helped Wellesley to an
undefeated season and qualified for
the AAU Nationals. She also coaches
gymnastics.

200 medley

Andover
The quartet (from left) of freshman Monica Patterson
and seniors Melissa Alois, Kristi Korsberg and Allison
Alwan managed to hold off Reading to win the Division
1 200 medley state title in 1:51.88. All were
Merrimack Valley All-Conference members and each
excelled in their individual events as Andover won its
ninth straight state title. Alois was MVC champ in the
100 breaststroke; Patterson was an MVC champ in
the 100 freestyle; Alwan earned a second-place finish
in the MVC and at states in the 100 backstroke; and
Korsberg was the co-swimmer of the year in the MVC
and is a four-time All-Scholastic..

Chelmsford
The team (from left) of junior Kaila Umbarger and
sophomores Kelsey Sheridan, Anna Otto and Kasey
Chilton, got past Acton-Boxboro in the state championship.
Theyre all members of the Deans List and
honor roll, and each put in strong individual showings
at the state championships. Sheridan posted a
fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle, Chilton was
seventh in the 500 free, and Umbarger third in the 50
free. They swim for the New Wave Swim Club and
Magnus Aquatic Club during the offseason..
400 free

Chelmsford
Seniors Katelyn Martin (left) and Kathrine Kinnett
and sophomores Kelsey Sheridan and Kasey Chilton
edged MVC rival Andover for the state championship
in the 400 free (3:37.90). For martin and Kinnett, this
is their second straight year on the All-Scholastic 400
free relay team. Chilton and Sheridan added to their
200-free relay title. Martin, Kinnett and Chilton swim
in the offseason with the Magnus Aquatic Club. Martin
will attend North Carolina..
