Runners of the Year

Division 1

Omar Abdi, Charlestown

The state champion in the mile, indoors and out, didn’t disappoint in his first year running cross-country, placing second in the Division 1 EMass and All-State meets. He also won the Catholic Memorial and Manchester Invitational this fall.
Division 2

Michael Moverman, Oliver Ames

Moverman never lost this season, winning the Bay State Invitational (15:48), Division 3 EMass race (16:03), and the Division 2 state meet (16:04.3). He qualified for Nationals with a sixth-place finish (15:48) at the Footlocker Northeast meet.

Coaches of the Year

Division 1

Raymond E. Carey III, St. John's Prep

In his 33d year as a coach, this member of the Massachusetts Cross- Country Coaches Hall of Fame led his squad to the EMass Division 1 title and a second-place finish at the Division 1 state meet. He graduated from Holy Cross in 1971.
Division 2

Bob L'Homme, Bishop Feehan

This is L’Homme’s third All-Scholastic honor in his 16-year career as a coach. A 1977 graduate of Bishop Feehan, he led the Shamrocks to their fifth Division 2 state championship and first since 2003. L’Homme’s career record is 130-18.

Senior

Ahmed Ali, Charlestown

In his first year running cross-country, Ali finished first in Division 1 state meet with a time of 16 minutes 5 seconds and placed third in the Division 1 EMass meet. Ali carries a 3.7 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Junior

John Bleday, Xaverian

The unanimous Catholic Conference MVP placed fourth at the Division 1 EMass meet, finishing in 16 minutes 9 seconds. He finished in 15:58 at the Catholic Conference meet this fall. Bleday enjoys playing golf and watching movies.
Sophomore

Shayne Collins, Mansfield

His seventh-place finish at the Division 1 state meet led the Hornets to a team title. Collins, a two-time Hockomock League All-Star, finished third in the Division 2 EMass race (16:32). He wrestles in the winter and runs track in the spring.
Junior

Max Darrah, Dennis-Yarmouth

Darrah won the Division 2 EMass title in 16 minutes 16 seconds. He also captured the title at the South Coast Challenge, winning in 16:06. Darrah, a National Honor Society student, enjoys eating ice cream and studying.
Senior

Phil Galebach, Medford

The Ivy League-bound Galebach won the Division 1 EMass title in 15 minutes 54 seconds. He also captured the Reebok Manhattan Division D title. Galebach, who will attend Harvard, Princeton, or Yale, enjoys mountain climbing and swimming.
Senior

Jonathan Gault, Bedford

Gault, the EMass Division 4 champion, went undefeated in the Dual County League and placed third in the Division 2 state meet. He is in the top five percent of his class with a 3.9 GPA and is a National Honor Society member.
Junior

John Gregorek, Seekonk

Gregorek finished second in the Division 2 state meet in 16 minutes 19 seconds. He set the course record at Bishop Feehan and was the South Coast Conference champion. Gregorek also won the Ocean State Invitational.
Senior

Michael Masse, St. John's Prep

Masse ran a personal-best 15:59 at Franklin Park in the Catholic Conference League meet. He finished 12th in the Division 1 state meet and sixth in the EMass race. A National Honor Society member, he enjoys biking and swimming.
Senior

Ethan Penney, Haverhill

Penney went undefeated in the Merrimack Valley Conference. He finished fourth at the Bay State Invitational (16:14) and seventh at the Division 1 EMass meet (16:12). This is Penney’s second All-Scholastic selection.
Junior

Jared Reddy, Methuen

In the Division 1 EMass meet, Reddy finished fifth in 16 minutes 10 seconds. He placed eighth in the Division 1 state meet, second at the Merrimack Valley Conference race, and helped Methuen finish undefeated and win its conference.
Sophomore

Tyler Sullivan, Whitman-Hanson

Sullivan placed sixth in the Division 1 state meet, finishing in 16 minutes 23 seconds. The Patriot League champion , who finished fifth at the Catholic Memorial Invitational (16:26.2), also enjoys playing basketball.
Senior

Patrick Taft, Whitman-Hanson

Taft placed ninth at the Division 2 EMass meet and at Division 1 state meet. He finished fourth in the Catholic Memorial Invitational (16:19.8) and seventh at the Bay State race. Taft plans to continue running in college.
