Players of the Year

Division 1
Maria Posa, Weston
Posa, a junior midfielder, scored 20
goals and added 17 assists while
leading Weston to the Division 1 state
championship and Dual County
League title. A DCL All-Star, Posas
sister Andrea was the Globes Division
1 Player of the Year in 2003.

Division 2
Mallory Bannon, Hopkinton
Bannon will have a tough time surpassing
her terrific junior campaign
after finishing with 10 goals and 18
assists and leading her team to the
Division 2 state championship. She
was named Tri-Valley League co-MVP
for her efforts.
Coaches of the Year

Division 1
Laura Galopim, Weston
Galopim helped Weston win everything
it could this season. Her team
won the Dual County League, Division
1 North, Division 1 EMass, and
Division 1 state championships. She
has a 189-41-26 record in her 12
years as Weston coach.

Division 2
Joan Bannon, Hopkinton
Bannon and her daughter Mallory
helped Hopkinton complete a dream
season, winning the Division 2 state
championship and the Tri-Valley
League. Bannon, whose career record
is 40-7-18, is a graduate of Auburn
High and UMass-Amherst.
All-Scholastics

Midfield, Sr.
Leah Cairns, Andover
Cairns led her team to a runner-up
finish in Division 1 North. The captain
is a four-year letter winner and
was named the Merrimack Valley
Conferences Player of the Year.
Cairns also captains the indoor and
outdoor track teams at Andover.

Forward, Sr.
Amira Downes, Harwich
The senior scored 23 goals and had
19 assists as she led Harwich to the
South Shore League title. She is a
four-year varsity player and a threetime
SSL All-Star selection. Downes
wants to major in communications at
Boston University or Virginia.

Center Back, Sr.
Mallory Flynn, Lynnfield
Flynn shined in her final season as a
defensive stalwart for Lynnfield. Her
performances earned her the Cape
Ann League Player of the Year award
and another all-league nod. Flynn, a
member of the National Honor Society,
hasnt finalized her college plans.

Goalie, Jr.
Melanie Hopkins, Harwich
Hopkins was as close to perfect as a
goalie could be. She faced 110 shots
this season and allowed just two
goals. The junior has played varsity
field hockey for three seasons and
also plays ice hockey and softball for
her school.

Goalie, Sr.
Kristen Manchester, Sandwich
Manchester allowed just 10 goals in
20 games this season and saved 95.4
percent of the shots she faced. She
compiled 486 saves in her three-year
career. Manchesters main hobby is
art and she is a member of the National
Art Honor Society.

Forward, Jr.
Virgynia Muma, Falmouth
Just a junior, Muma is a veteran in
the field hockey circuit. She has
competed at the Junior Olympics
level and is one of the top players in
the Atlantic Coast League. This season,
she scored 14 goals and had five
assists.

Center Midfield, Sr.
Karen Quinn, Somerset
Quinn led her team to the Division 1
South sectional final. During the
regular season, the cocaptain scored
five goals and contributed 16 assists.
The senior is ranked ninth in her
class and hopes to study nursing in
college.

Forward, Jr.
Alexa Sikalis, Acton-Boxboro
Sikalis was prolific this season, scoring
24 goals, including four hat
tricks, as she led Acton-Boxboro to
the Division 1 North quarterfinals.
The junior has 84 career points (54
goals, 30 assists) and has competed
in the Junior Olympics.

Forward, Sr.
Taylor Silvestro, Walpole
Silvestro was the Bay State Hergets
top scorer and Most Valuable Player
this season. In her career, she has
helped Walpole to one state championship
(2006), two league championships
(07, 08), and three South
sectional titles (2006-08).

Forward, Sr.
Eleanor Taylor, Bishop Stang
Taylor, a senior, was a prolific scorer,
notching 22 goals and 17 assists. She
was a two-time Eastern Athletic
Conference All-Star and a four-year
varsity letter winner. She is an honor
roll student and also plays basketball
for the school.

Forward, Sr.
Carissa Vizakis, Bellingham
Vizakis shared Tri-Valley League
co-MVP honors with Hopkintons
Mallory Bannon. She was the recipient
of the John Smith Scholarship
Award and hopes to attend Providence
College, Stonehill College, or
UMass-Lowell.

Forward, Jr.
Candace Waldie, North Andover
In just her second season playing
field hockey, Waldie netted 20 goals,
had 19 assists, and was named the
Cape Ann League Player of the Year.
In her rookie campaign last season,
she had 16 goals and four assists. The
junior is an honor roll student.
