Players of the Year

Division 1: FB/LB, Sr.
Tyler Horan, BC High
Horan was the leading scorer for BC
High, scoring 16 touchdowns, including
a pair in a 13-7 win over
Brockton in the Division 1 Super
Bowl. He was the Catholic Conference
co-Player of the Year. Hell attend
Virginia Tech.

Division 1A: QB, Sr.
Matt Grimard, Dracut
He seemed more like a tank at times,
but the Gatorade Player of the Year
used his arm, too. Grimard passed for
2,480 yards and 21 touchdowns in
addition to rushing for 1,589 yards
and 34 TDs as Dracut won the Super
Bowl. He was the MVC MVP.

Division 2: RB/DB/K, Jr.
Ryan Izzo, Walpole
Izzo is now a two-time Division 2
Player of the Year. His 193 rushing
yards and three scores helped Walpole
win the Division 2 Super Bowl.
On the season, he scored 38 touchdowns.
He needs 177 points to break
the Massachusetts scoring record.

Division 2A: RB/DE, Sr.
Shane DiBona, Duxbury
The 6-foot-2-inch, 220-pound bulldozer
had 18 touchdowns and was a
force on defense, totaling 10.5 sacks.
DiBona ended his high school career
with a win in the Division 2A Super
Bowl. He will play football at Iowa
next year.

Division 3: RB/OLB, Sr.
Sean Ryan, Norton
Ryan carried the Lancers with 36
touchdowns and 218 points (second
most in Eastern Mass.). He also had
2,057 rushing yards and was the
Tri-Valley League MVP. A two-time
TVL All-Star, he might play football
or baseball in college.

Division 3A: QB/S/K, Sr.
Joe Esposito, Georgetown
He was king for the Royals, rushing
for 20 touchdowns en route to 159
points second best in Division 3A.
Esposito provided 52 tackles, threw
for 13 touchdowns and 1,112 yards,
and leaves Georgetown with its
passing yardage record (3,778).

Division 4: QB/DB, Sr.
Pat Orlando, Manchester-Essex
The Hornets star threw for 25
touchdowns, best in Division 4,
passing his brother Vinny for the
schools all-time record, 54. He added
1,610 passing yards, giving him
over 4,000 for his career. hes a twotime
Commonwealth Small MVP.
Coaches of the Year

Division 1
Jon Bartlett, BC High
In his first year at the helm of his old
high school team, Bartlett kept the
Eagles flying in the right direction.
BC High finished 11-1 and won a
Super Bowl for the first time since
2000, avenging the teams only loss
(Everett) in the semifinals.

Division 1A
Jack Belcher, Bedford
After playing football at Boston
College in the early 1980s, Belcher
brought his passsion for the sport to
coaching. This year, the former center
led his Dual County Small champions
to a 10-2 record, one year after
finishing 4-7.

Division 2
Danny Villa, Walpole
A former standout at Arizona State
and for the Patriots, Villa coached his
team to a 13-0 season and Super
Bowl win. Villa credits commitment
and hard work for the Rebels success,
which includes a 24-2 mark the
past two years.

Division 2A
Dave Maimaron, Duxbury
Maimaron led Duxbury to an undefeated
season, the Patriot League
title, and a Super Bowl championship.
In his tenure at Duxbury,
Maimaron is 41-7. Maimaron credits
the success of the team to his senior
class and his assistants.

Division 3
Serge Clivio, Arlington Catholic
Clivio watched his team struggle to a
2-3 start, but the 19-year coach
helped right the Cougars ship, as
they won their next eight games,
including the Division 3 Super Bowl.
AC also won its third straight Catholic
Central Large title.

Division 3A
Don Herman, Martha's Vineyard
In his 21st year as Vineyarders coach,
Herman led his team to its first Mayflower
Large championship since
2003. Marthas Vineyard went 11-2
and advanced to the Division 3A Super
Bowl. Herman has five career Super
Bowl titles.

Division 4
Dan MacLean, Tri-County
MacLean entered the season with a
6-14 record in his two years as Cougars
head coach. He brought the program
to its first playoff and Super
Bowl appearances. Tri-Countys 10-3
record this season is also the best in
school history.
All-Scholastics

TE/DE, Sr.
Moses Acloque, Norwood
Acloque led a Norwood defense that
allowed 13.1 points per game. He
amassed 55 tackles and 16.5 sacks
this season and had 34 sacks in his
career. The 6-foot-2-inch, 230-pound
senior hopes to play college football
at an FCS or Division 2 school.

LB, Sr.
Chris Bent, Dracut
With Bents 110 tackles, 7 sacks, and
2 fumble recoveries, its no wonder
Dracut won the Division 1A Super
Bowl. The 6-foot-2-inch, 210-pound
MVC All-Conference linebacker
hopes to play football in college and
major in criminal justice.

RB, Sr.
Dejon Berment, Dorchester
In his only full season of football, Berment
ran for 24 touchdowns for Dorchester,
best in Division 4. The 5-
foot-4-inch tailback rushed for 1,650
yards and logged 160 points second
in the division. The speedy senior
also runs track.

QB/DB, Sr.
Chris Cameron, Swampscott
The two-way star did it all for the Big
Blue. He threw 22 touchdown passes,
ran for 15 TDs, totaled 3,102 allpurpose
yards, and recorded 40
tackles on his way to being named
the Northeastern Conference Small
MVP.

RB/LB, Jr.
Matt Campbell, Attleboro
This 6-foot-1-inch, 225-pound scoring
sensation ran for 22 touchdowns
and 1,336 yards and had 105 tackles.
His 22d TD beat North Attleboro on
Thanksgiving. Campbell is an honorroll
student who also plays baseball
and basketball.

QB, Sr.
Josh Carrington, O'Bryant
Carrington threw for 10 touchdowns,
rushed for seven, and led OBryant to
an undefeated regular season (10-0).
In a postseason loss to Manchester
Essex, he threw two TDs and ran for
another. He also runs indoor and outdoor
track.

QB, Sr.
Joe Clancy, Newburyport
Clancys 22 passing touchdowns
best in Division 4 led Newburyport
to a share of the Cape Ann
Small title with Amesbury and
Georgetown. He was a league All-
Star in baseball and also plays basketball.

QB, Sr.
Sean Cross, Duxbury
Cross saved his best for last. In the
Division 2A Super Bowl, Cross passed
for 334 yards and four touchdowns in
Duxburys win. He finished the season
with 25 touchdown passes and
had 46 in his career. Cross is also on
the track and baseball teams.

C/MLB, Sr.
Tom Effler, Bishop Feehan
Effler, an Eastern Athletic Conference
All-Star, was the leader of Feehans
stout defense. He had 96 tackles, 8
sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 2 blocked
field goals, and an interception. Effler
is an honor-roll student and a captain
of the spring track team.

OL, Sr.
Ralph Faia, Everett
Faia finished an incredible career, a
member of a team that won every
Greater Boston League championship
and two Super Bowls in
his four years. The high-honor student
is also a two-year captain in
hockey.

QB, Sr.
Danny Guadagnoli, Framingham
Guadagnoli set school records across
the board, throwing for more than
6,000 yards in his career and finishing
with 49 touchdown passes. The
football, basketball, and baseball
captain hopes to participate in collegiate
athletics on the East Coast.

QB, Sr.
Conor Henry, Coyle & Cassidy
An academic and athletic standout,
Henry passed for nine touchdowns,
rushed for 12, and kicked four field
goals. Henry is a 2008 Otto Graham
Football Achievement Award winner
and has a 3.84 GPA. He hopes to
attend an Ivy League school.

QB, Jr.
Brandon Howard, King Philip
Howard was the Hockomock League
MVP on offense. The 6-foot-4-inch,
230-pound quarterback threw for
1,071 yards and 17 touchdowns. He
is an honor-roll student and a member
of the basketball and baseball
teams.

RB/LB, Sr.
Martin Hyppolite, Wakefield
In nine games, Hyppolite scored 183
points and rushed for 1,661 yards,
both records at Wakefield. His career
rushing total of 2,850 yards is also a
school record. He is a Middlesex
League All-Star and plans to study
law or criminal justice in college.

RB/DB, Sr.
Trevor Jeanson, Acton-Boxboro
Jeanson tallied just under 1,500
yards rushing on 204 carries, leading
A-B to the DCL Large title. His 24
rushing touchdowns, seven receptions,
and 135 receiving yards helped
him earn Offensive Player of the Year
honors in the DCL.

RB, Sr.
Kevin Johnston, Amesbury
Amesbury rode its senior speedster
(Johnston was last seasons Division
3 indoor state champ in the 55-meter
dash) all the way to a Super Bowl title
this season. Johnston racked up
1,036 yards on 148 carries and found
the end zone 24 times.

G/DE, Sr.
Kalonji Kabongo, Abington
Kabongo was a defensive force for
Abington, with 109 tackles and 14
sacks. The three-time South Shore
League All-Star and track star was
praised by coach Jim Kelliher as one
of the best defensive players hes ever
coached.

TE/DL, Sr.
Arthur Lynch, Dartmouth
Before Lynch heads to the University
of Georgia for football, he will participate
in the ESPN Under Armour
All-America game. The president of
his class made 128 tackles the last
two seasons and was a clutch receiving
option for 11-1 Dartmouth.

QB/S, Sr.
Jeff Mallett, Mansfield
Mallett led Mansfield to the Division
2 Super Bowl. He was named the
Hockomock MVP on defense, and
was a team captain and an honor roll
student. This season he threw for
eight touchdowns and intercepted
five passes.

QB/DB, Sr.
Mike McCarthy, Martha's Vineyard
The senior co-captain registered 41
total touchdowns - 21 rushing, 20
passing - to lead the Vineyarders to
the Mayflower Large title. He ran and
threw for more than 1,000 yards.
Hes also an NHS member and plays
basketball and lacrosse.

WR/CB, Sr.
Justin Mello, Dartmouth
The versatile receiver leaves Dartmouth
with all-time records in interceptions,
receiving yards, and
receptions. Also a captain on the
basketball team, the 6-2, 200-pound
Mello plans to play football in college
and is being actively recruited.

OT/DE, Sr.
Dylan Morrissey, Gloucester
Morrissey anchored a Gloucester
offensive line that paved the way for a
slew of running backs. He was a
captain this year and is an all-conference
hockey and lacrosse player for
the Fishermen. Morrissey has verbally
committed to Sacred Heart.

OL/DL, Sr.
Nnamdi Obukwelu, BC High
The Harvard-bound Obukwelu anchored
the Division 1 champions
offensive and defensive lines and was
named the Catholic Conference
Defensive Player of the Year. He also
served as president of the National
Honor Society.

RB, Sr.
Khalil James-Offley, Brockton
James-Offley was arguably the most
potent offensive weapon in Division
1, leading the Boxers to the Super
Bowl with 26 touchdowns, including
one at Gillette Stadium. He accumulated
1,728 yards on just 204 carries,
more than 8 yards per carry.

OL/DL, Sr.
Ted Ouellet, Dover-Sherborn
Ouellet, the Tri-Valley Leagues Lineman
of the Year, was a two-time
league all-star for D-S and doubled as
a league all-star for the basketball
team. The 6-3, 250-pound senior has
verbally committed to Bowling
Green.

QB/FS, Sr.
Jack Pizzotti, Melrose
Pizzotti led Melrose with 21 rushing
touchdowns and 1,350 yards on the
ground. He finished his career with
34 touchdowns. Pizzotti, also a star
baseball player, sports a 3.63 GPA
and is a two-time league all-star and
captain of the baseball team.

TE/LB, Sr.
Jim Queeney, Reading
Queeney helped lead Reading to the
Middlesex League title and an undefeated
regular season. He was a
team captain and three-year starter
for the Rockets. He will attend Colgate
to play lacrosse and academically
is ranked second in his class.

C/DT, Sr.
Adam Riegel, Walpole
Riegel anchored the offensive and
defensive lines for a Walpole team
that went 13-0 and won the Division
2 Super Bowl. He collected 12 sacks
this season and is a Bay State League
All-Star. He also paved the way for
2,000-yard rusher Ryan Izzo.

QB/S, Sr.
Derek Russell, Newton South
This Ivy League hopeful and Dual
County Large co-offensive MVP
totaled 6,000 all-purpose yards in his
career, with 2,257 passing yards and
21 touchdown passes this season.
Defensively, he had two interceptions.
He also plays baseball.

QB, Sr.
Corey Spencer, Arlington Catholic
En route to leading Arlington Catholic
to the Division 3 championship,
Spencer threw for 2,800 yards and 27
touchdowns, and rushed for 400
yards and six touchdowns. The performance
earned him Catholic Central
Large MVP honors.

QB/DB, Jr.
Chris Splinter, Masconomet
Splinter was named Player of the
Year in the Cape Ann Large. He
rushed for 15 touchdowns, passed for
six, and intercepted six passes. Splinter
also captains the basketball and
baseball teams and is on the high
honor roll.

DL/OL, Sr.
Mark Sylvester, Malden Catholic
Sylvester is a three-time Catholic
Conference All-Star and the Lineman
of the Year, earning the distinction
with 53 tackles and eight sacks. A
member of the National Honor Society,
he hopes to continue his football
career in college.

G/DE, Sr.
Zach Triner, Marshfield
The Marshfield captain led his team
to its second Super Bowl in two years.
His 6-foot-3-inch, 225-pound frame
steamrolled the opposition, with 11
sacks, 89 tackles, and 5 forced fumbles.
Triner also captains the lacrosse
team.

RB/DB, Sr.
Melikke Van Alstyne, Salem
Van Alstyne finished his brilliant
career as the all-time leading rusher
at Salem with 4,183 yards and 47
touchdowns. This season Van Alstyne
scored 21 touchdowns and was
named the Northeastern Conference
Large MVP.

OL/DL, Sr.
Brennan Williams, Catholic Memorial
The 6-foot-7-inch, 275-pound Williams
is an honor-roll student who
will be playing in next months Army
All-American Bowl in San Antonio.
He registered five sacks for CM, and
was named the Catholic Conference
co-Player of the Year.

QB/CB, Sr.
Derick Willis, South Boston
Willis produced through the air and
on the ground, with 10 passing and
10 rushing TDs. He threw for more
than 500 yards in his first year playing
quarterback. Hes been recruited
by Boston College, Syracuse, Maine,
and New Hampshire.
Preps

Class A: RB/LB
Derrick Wilson, Hotchkiss
Wilson is the first sophomore in the
116 years of football at Hotchkiss to
be a captain. He rushed for 1,376
yards and 19 touchdowns and recorded
92 tackles, 2 sacks, and 4
forced fumbles. As a freshman, Wilson
was an all-Erickson League
linebacker and this season was the Erickson League
player of the year. Wilson not only excels on the football
field, but in track and basketball as well. He is the
starting point guard on the basketball team and
helped set a school record in the 4 x 100 meters (42.4
seconds). Wilson is from Anchorage, 4,425 miles
away from Hotchkiss, which is in Lakeville, Conn.

Class B: RB/LB
Chris Setian, Suffield Academy
Setian led his team to a victory over
Belmont Hill in the Clark-Francis
Bowl. His field goal with 13 seconds
remaining in the third quarter provided
the winning points in the
Clark-Francis game. He also caught a
touchdown and returned a blocked
punt for a score in the game. On the season, Setian
rushed for 1,529 yards and 23 touchdowns. He was
named the New England Prep School Co-MVP and
the Colonial Football League MVP. Off the football
field, Setian participated in basketball and wrestling
and was a first-team All-Western Massachusetts
lacrosse player.

Class B: RB/LB
John Scott, Milton Academy
Scott was a wrecking ball of a running
back, racking up 2,112 rushing
yards and 24 touchdowns on 258
carries. The Independent School
League MVP helped his school to an
8-1 record and a victory in the Samson-
Lorden Bowl. In the bowl game
Scott torched King Low Heywood Thomas for 310
yards and four touchdowns. He finished the year with
144 points, easily leading the ISL in scoring. As a
junior, he was fourth in the ISL in scoring with 98
points. Scott played through a long bout with pneumonia
at the beginning of this season. After recovery,
Scott rushed for 1,100 yards in the last four regular
season games.

Class C: QB
Mike DiChiara, BB&N
DiChiara led BB&N to a spotless 8-0
record and to a victory over Lawrence
Academy in the Independent School
League championship game. He
threw for an ISL-best 28 touchdowns
and was intercepted just three times.
DiChiara has quarterbacked BB&N to
a 25-2 record during his tenure and is a three-time
All-ISL player. In his five-year career, which started at
Saugus, he had 78 touchdown passes, second all-time
in state history. Outside of football, DiChiara plays
baseball and is the captain of the basketball team. He
hopes to play football for an Ivy League school and
has received a lot of interest from Harvard, Brown,
Columbia and Princeton.
