Golfers of the Year

Division 1
Eric Hooker, Andover
Hooker was both the Merrimack
Valley Conference champion and the
winner at the Division 1 North sectional.
For the season, the senior had
a 13-0-1 record and compiled a 26-
6-1 career record. Hooker enjoys art,
movies, and playing the guitar.

Division 1
Sean Burke, Andover
Andovers No. 1 player and team
captain had strong finishes at the
Merrimack Valley Conference championship
(shot 73) and the Division 1
state championship, where he shot
72, good enough for fourth. Burke
had a 12-1-2 record this season.

Division 2
Jeff Duggan, Nauset
Duggan won the Division 2 state
championship and South sectional,
shooting 75 and 70, respectively. His
efforts helped his team win the South
sectional and finish as runners up at
the state final. The senior captain has
lettered four years at Nauset.

Division 3
Matt Montt, Hanover
Montt has been a marked man, playing
as Hanovers No. 1 all season. But
the pressure was deserved: the sophomore
won the Division 3 state
championship, shooting 71 at Shaker
Hills Golf Club in Harvard. He is also
a Patriot League All-Star.
Coaches of the Year

Division 1
Michael Fleming, Newton South
Flemings team shared the Division 1
North sectional title at the Beverly
Golf Club and finished an impressive
fifth at the Division 1 state championships.
He has coached at Newton
South for three years and graduated
from the school in 1979.

Division 2
Phil Gibson, Concord-Carlisle
Gibson guided Concord-Carlisle to its
first-ever golf state championship
this season. In his four years at the
helm, he has compiled a 47-22
record. Gibson is an alumnus of the
school and graduated from Holy
Cross in 1995.

Division 3
Mary O'Brien
OBrien helped Weston to an impressive
treble. Her team won the Dual
County League title, the Division 3
North Sectional and the Division 3
state championship. In her six-year
tenure at Weston, she has a 62-33-3
record.
All-Scholastics

Senior
William Boyle, Wellesley
Boyle will go down as one of his
schools best ever. He holds the
Wellesley record for most career
individual wins (46) and best scoring
average (35.4). The captain was a
two-time Bay State League All-Star.
He will attend Wake Forest.

Sophomore
Nicky Buenaventura, Weston
Buenaventura was fourth at the
Division 3 North sectional and third
at the Division 3 state championship.
The Wildcats won both tournaments
and also added a Dual County League
crown. Buenaventura also plays
basketball for Weston.

Senior
Brad Cadigan, BC High
With a 37.2 scoring average, Cadigan
helped propel his team to secondplace
finish at the Division 1 state
championship at Brookmeadow
Country Club in Canton. The captain
won the Division 1 South title, shooting
71 at Glen Ellen Country Club.

Senior
Tim Carey, Coyle and Cassidy
After winning the Division 3 South
sectional title, Carey helped his team
to a second-place finish at the Division
3 state championship in Harvard.
Carey fired a 77, which placed
him in a tie for fourth on the day. The
Plymouth native also plays hockey.

Senior
David Gosselin, Woburn
Gosselin won the Division 2 North
sectional by shooting a sizzling 4-
under 68. He followed that performance
up with a 5-over 77 at the state
championship. Gosselin was also the
Middlesex League MVP. The honor
roll student will attend URI.

Senior
Charlton Hoy, Brookline
Hoy compiled a 15-3 record this
season and won the Bay State tournament.
During his career, he has been
named a league all-star three times
and was runner up at the New England
Junior Open. He is a member of
the National Honor Society.

Junior
Nicholas Maccario, St. John's Prep
Maccario captained his team to a
17-0 regular season record and
turned in some fine postseason play,
finishing third at the Division 1 state
championships. A Catholic Conference
All-Star, he hopes to continue
his career in college.

Senior
Brendan Meagher, Weston
Meagher, an All-Scholastic last year,
led his team to an undefeated regular
season and wins at the Division 3
North sectional and state championship.
The Dual County League
All-Star and 2007 individual state
champion hopes to play college golf.

Senior
Josh Salah, Gloucester
This marks Salahs third All-Scholastic
appearance, which couples nicely
with his three straight Northeastern
Conference MVP awards. He had a
34.2 scoring average and broke the
schools scoring record when he shot
a 31. He will attend Sacred Heart.

Junior
Brodie Stone, Concord-Carlisle
Stone was low scorer at the Division 2
state tournament and was the Dual
County League co-champion. He is a
two-time league all-star and was
named Rookie of the Year as a freshman.
He is also a member of the
National Honor Society.

Senior
Troy Thibodeau, Danvers
Thibodeau had a strong fourthplace
finish at the Division 3 North
sectional and the next week finished
as the runner up at the state championships.
He was 14-1 in Northeastern
Conference match play and
maintained a 37.0 stroke average.

Senior
Stephen Winslow, Concord-Carlisle
Winslow capped off his impressive
final season by finishing second at
the Division 2 state championships at
Gannon Golf Course in Lynn. He is a
two-time captain of the golf and
hockey teams. Winslow plans to go to
prep school.
