Players of the Year

Division 1

Stephanie Bristol, Barnstable

Bristol’s career has been stellar. She won four straight Division 1 state championships with Barnstable and this marks her third consecutive All-Scholastic selection. The All- American had 413 kills and 50 blocks this season.
Division 2

Caitlin Barrett, Medfield

Barrett, a senior, collected her third state title when Medfield topped Central Catholic in the final. She also has piled up individual accolades. A two-time All-Scholastic and Tri-Valley League MVP, Barrett was named the Gatorade Player of the Year.
Division 3

Alison Friberg, North Reading

The Cape Ann League MVP led North Reading to the Division 3 North Sectional championship and an appearance in the state title game. Friberg, a setter, also captains the varsity basketball team. The senior enjoys photography and kayaking.

Coaches of the Year

Division 1

Neil Macedo, New Bedford

Macedo celebrated his 25th season at New Bedford by guiding his team to the Division 1 South Sectional final. Macedo has compiled a 417-126 record and has also been honored as Coach of the Year in these pages in 1992, 1994, and 1998.
Division 2

Gannon Paris, Central Catholic

In three years as head coach, Paris has compiled a 45-12 record. This season, his team went 22-1 and won the Division 2 North Sectional final. Paris was named Merrimack Valley Conference Coach of the Year for the second straight year.
Division 3

Eric Neely, Ursuline Academy

Neely’s team won the Catholic Conference (10-0) and the Division 3 South sectional. He is 70-23 in six years at Ursuline Academy. The BC High graduate said his team was, ‘‘An amazing group . . . very united as a team.’’

All-Scholastics

Outside hitter, Sr.

Jacqueline Atkinson, Bishop Feehan

Atkinson and teammate Amy Lepley led the way as Bishop Feehan won the Division 2 South Sectional championship. The team captain had 150 kills this season and averaged the most digs in the Eastern Athletic Conference.
Middle hitter, Jr.

Hannah Brickley, Melrose

Brickley helped her team to a Middlesex League championship and an appearance in the Division 2 North Sectional final. The league All-Star is a three-year varsity starter and is also a standout on the Melrose basketball team.
Middle hitter, Sr.

Meghan Donovan, Bourne

Donovan and her teammates made it through the regular season undefeated and came within one win of their third straight Division 2 South title. The senior wants to play volleyball at a four-year college and major in communications or social work.
Setter, Jr.

Carolyn Eddy, Central Catholic

Eddy racked up 486 assists and 60 kills during a season in which Central Catholic won the Merrimack Valley Conference and the Division 2 North Sectional titles. The junior also plays basketball and runs track for Central Catholic.
Libero, Jr.

Stephanie Gove, Millis

Gove was Millis’s catalyst in its run to the Division 3 state championship. The junior is a high honors student and maintains a 3.71 GPA. In her free time, she enjoys reading and running. Gove won a gold medal at the 2008 Bay State Games.
Outside hitter, Sr.

Melissa Haskell, Medfield

Haskell has been a member of four straight Tri-Valley League championship teams and helped her team win state championships in 2005, 2006, and 2008. The senior has maintained a 3.88 GPA and hopes to attend Bowdoin next year.
Middle hitter, Sr.

Amy Lepley, Bishop Feehan

Though better known for her basketball exploits, Lepley was also a dominating force on the volleyball court, averaging four kills per game as she pushed her career total above 500. She will attend Holy Cross on a basketball scholarship.
Setter, Sr.

Jadith Lorenzo, Lawrence

Lorenzo’s stellar play as a setter earned her All-Scholastic honors for the second consecutive year. This season she was named the player of the year in the Merrimack Valley Conference. She has been an honor roll student for four years.
Outside hitter, Sr.

Suzi Lu, Boston Latin

The Dual County League MVP led her team to a league title and a victory in the Division 1 Central/East final. Lu is a member of the National Honor Society and also runs track for her school. In her free time, the senior enjoys watching movies.
Middle hitter, Sr.

Ashley Norley, Lincoln-Sudbury

The 5-foot 9-inch Norley was solid in the middle this season for the Warriors and hopes to continue her career in college. She played her club volleyball with Central Mass. The senior also plays varsity lacrosse for Lincoln-Sudbury.
Outside hitter, Jr.

Morgan Thatcher, Brockton

The junior compiled 98 blocks and 165 kills this season to go along with 115 digs. The honor roll student also plays basketball for the Boxers. She enjoys cooking and working with children. Thatcher wants to study sports medicine in college.
Outside hitter, Sr.

Nora Wood, Barnstable

Wood has been an integral member of Barnstable’s dynasty, winning her fourth Division 1 state championship this season. She had 270 digs and 192 kills this season. Wood is a two-time Old Colony League All-Star and also plays lacrosse for her school.
