Adam Pritchard, Concord-Carlisle

Armed with a team that sports four All-Scholastic selections, Pritchard's task was to blend the talent into a team this spring. Mission accomplished. The Patriots went 20-1, were co-champions of the Dual County League, won the MIAA Division 1 North title by beating Newton South, the EMass title with a win over Barnstable, and finally the state title this past Wednesday. He describes his team as hard working and dedicated. In five years as the Patriots' head coach, Pritchard has a 75-22 record. A 1987 graduate of Belmont High School, he also coaches the varsity boys' basketball team at his alma mater. In 1996, Pritchard graduated from the UMass-Amherst with a degree in sports management. His hobbies are basketball, bicycling and, of course, tennis. | |
Lynne Smith, Ursuline

As a first-year coach of 19-2 Ursuline, Smith's team won the Catholic Conference championship and was a Division 2 South Sectional semifinalist in the MIAA tournament (they lost to Old Rochester, 3-2.) Smith says her team's work ethic and desire to learn directly contributed to their successes and says her girls personify the quality of student at Ursuline Academy. She graduated from Barnstable High School in 1980, and moved on to Boston College, graduating in 1984. At Ursuline, Smith also coaches junior varsity basketball where her team went 18-2 this past winter. In college, Smith played field hockey, ice hockey, basketball, and softball. She lists tennis as a hobby, as well as photography. | |

Cayla Clancy, Old Rochester

An undefeated (14-0) South Coast Conference season for Old Rochester was paced by the undefeated (18-0) season of its junior standout Clancy. As the South Coast Conference Most Valuable Player, Clancy advanced to the MIAA South Sectional semifinals. Her three-year record for first singles play is 50-4. Over that time she has been named SCC All-Star three times and also Player of the Year in the Greater New Bedford area three times. With a 3.85 GPA, Clancy became a member of the National Honor Society. She is also the SCC MVP soccer player. A three time all-star for basketball, she was also the conference's leading scorer. | |
Shivani Dave, Concord-Carlisle

With some of the most powerful backhands and forehands in the state, Shivani powered her way to an 17-0 regular season, an MIAA North sectional title, an EMass title, and a No. 2 ranking in New England. This phenom, only a junior, did not drop a set all season. In the North Sectionals, she dropped just two games between the semifinals and the final matches, beating Kristen Raymond of Dover-Sherborn, 6-0, 6-0, and then Newton South's Jenna Goldfine, 6-1, 6-1 in the final. A high honors student, Dave also enjoys playing the piano and Indian dancing. In the future she hopes to play tennis for a Division 1 college. This summer, she will compete in the Super National girls' 18-and-under tournament. | |
Katrina Elder-Bush, Brookline

Tennis enthusiasts were sure not to miss the match of the season - the clash of the undefeated Shivani Dave against Edler-Bush yesterday in the MIAA state individual tournament. Regardless of that outcome, Elder-Bush had proven herself a tough competitor, winning the MIAA South Sectional three years in a row. In four years of regular season and tournament play, Elder-Bush has lost just four matches, and in 2002 she was the MIAA state champion. Elder-Bush is an honor roll student who also plays track. In her down time she enjoys music and shopping. In the fall she will attend Rutgers University. Before that she'll compete in the Junior Fed Cup in the summer. | |
Jenna Goldfine, Newton South

The only freshman All-Scholastic singles player, Goldfine is also the first Newton South freshman girl to be an All-Scholastic in 30 years. In her first campaign, Goldfine was 16-4 including the MIAA North Sectional tournament, where she knocked out senior Kelsey Stone in the semifinals, using power and focus against the No. 2 seed. Later in the day, she fell to Concord-Carlisle's Shivani Dave in the final. Goldfine has a bright future in tennis, already being named a Dual County League All-Star and currently is ranked sixth at 16-and-under in New England USTA. During the fall and winter, Goldfine plays at the New England Tennis Academy at the Natick Raquet Club. | |
Kristen Raymond, Dover-Sherborn

During her four years on the Dover-Sherborn tennis team, Raymond has won an amazing 60 matches, while dropping just seven. This 5-8 senior captain has remained undefeated in Tri-Valley League matches at No. 1 singles and advanced to the semifinals of the MIAA North sectional individual tournament, losing to eventual champion Shivani Dave of Concord-Carlisle, 6-0, 6-0. Raymond is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Dover-Sherborn basketball team. The senior is also the President of the Student Council. Next fall you can find Raymond continuing her tennis career as a member of the Bowdoin women's tennis team. | |
Samantha Santorella, Scituate

Many of Santorella's opponents must have felt she came out of nowhere. She did, sort of. Just eight months ago, Santorella moved to Massachusetts from Kentucky and became a nice present for the Scituate High team. After playing tennis in high school in her home state, Santorella came to Massachusetts and dominated the Patriot League, going 19-1. Fighting a strained back, Santorella advanced to the MIAA South Sectional semifinals. Entering the Division 1 South team tournament at 13-1 as the No. 5 seed, Scituate upset No. 1 seed Newton North before falling in the finals, 3-2, to Barnstable. Before coming to Massachusetts she was a member of the Kentucky Junior Federation Cup Team. | |
Elizabeth Stone, Cohasset

After being ousted from the MIAA South Sectional final by senior Katrina Elder-Bush, Stone, a junior, has to be considered the odds-on favorite for 2005. During her first three seasons at Cohasset, Stone is 45-2 in South Shore League play, and undefeated this season. Stone was an integral part of the 2003 Division 2 state championship team and has been ranked as high as No. 9 in the USTA New England section in the 18-and-under division. Stone is ranked third in her class with a 4.2 GPA. Other sports she plays include indoor and outdoor soccer, the ski team, and she is the only girl on the Cohasset boys' golf team. Stone likes to travel and plans to play in several USTA tournaments, both locally and nationally this summer. | |
Kelsey Stone, Concord-Carlisle

Playing on a powerful Concord-Carlisle team, Stone made her mark going undefeated (16-0) on the Patriot team the finished the regular season at 15-1. She advanced to the semifinals in the individual tournament and helped C-C win the Division 1 North championship, the EMass title, and the state title. A two-time All-Scholastic, Stone is currently eighth in the USTA New England 18-and-under rankings. Stone is a high honor student who is also part of the National Honor Society. Off the court, she enjoys running, skiing, community service, and her job. A year from now she'll be looking to continue her career in college. | |

Whitney Davis, Barnstable

Davis cannot be topped when it comes to the regular season. In four years at Barnstable High School, Davis has not dropped a single match. Twice she has been the MIAA South Sectional doubles champion and has been an All-Scholastic for three straight years. In her career, Davis has amassed an incredible 79-2 mark, vaulting her into the record books at Barnstable for the most wins over a career. It's no surprise that she has been named team Most Valuable Player twice. The volleyball All-Scholastic was named to the Massachusetts Volleyball Coaches Association all-state team. Also an honor student, Davis will attend the University of Arizona. | |

Purcell and her partner Diana Trebino capped a 13-2 season by advancing to the MIAA South Sectional tournament. There, they moved on to the final where they eventually fell in straight sets to fellow All-Scholastics Brittany Enz and Whitney Davis of Barnstable, 6-1, 6-4. A three-time Patriot League All-Star, Purcell has been part of four Patriot League championship teams. Purcell is also a winner of the prestigious National Merit Scholarship. When not playing tennis, Purcell likes to mountain bike, hike, and read. Next year she will attend the University of Massachussetts-Amherst. | |
Megan Conway, Lynnfield

Lynnfield tennis captain Conway and her partner Julie Brown pulled a fast one on their MIAA North Sectional opponents Tasha Stone and Daniella Granato. After dropping the first set, 6-0, the two looked overmatched and on their way to defeat. But with the help of Conway's accurate serve, the pair pulled off the win, 0-6, 6-3, 6-4. Conway is a two-time Cape Ann All-League player and has won both a bronze and silver medal for tennis in the Bay State Games, playing both singles and doubles. She is also a Junior Olympian for volleyball and last year won the coaches award for her squad. Conway will play tennis next year for St. Michael's College in Vermont. | |
Tasha Stone, Concord-Carlisle

She might be the youngest Stone chosen as All-Scholastic, but Tasha (13-2) has proven herself equal to her fellow All-Scholastics. Paired with her senior partner Daniella Granato, Stone advanced to the MIAA North Sectional doubles final. Her performance in the match solidified her presence in girls' high school tennis for years to come. She is also ranked in New England by the USTA. This year, Stone was an honor roll student all four quarters. Off the court, Stone likes to ski and run. Her other interests include hanging out with her friends. Next year, Stone, along with sister Kelsey and teammate Shivani Dave, should continue the Concord-Carlisle success. | |
Brittany Enz, Barnstable

The tandem of Enz and Davis are making their second straight All-Scholastic appearance, and it's no surprise. One year after going 24-0, the team remained undefeated at 19-0. Enz, team co-captain, and Davis were Old Colony League champions as well as MIAA South Sectional champions. In her career, Enz is 69-2. Other honors include being named an Old Colony League All-Star, as well as Cape and Islands All-Star. She was voted Barnstable's Most Valuable Player and also received the sportsmanship award. Enz is an honor student who is an OCL All-Star for volleyball. Her hobbies include skiing and she will attend King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Penn. next fall. | |
Diana Trebino, Hingham

Trebino and her partner Purcell were MIAA South Sectional finalists. The duo helped Hingham to a 16-4 record including a Division 1 South state tournament win over Quincy. During her career, Trebino has received several honors including Patriot League All-Star and has been a four-time Patriot League champion. At school, Trebino is a member of the National Honor Society and was awarded high achievement in Spanish. She also recieved the Bryn Mawr Book award. Trebino was Hingham's ``Women in Sports Day'' representative. She also plays field hockey and also enjoys swimming. The chorus member will atttend Middlebury College in the fall. | |

This three-year varsity tennis player will be looking for a new partner next season, after teammate and fellow North Sectional winner Conway graduates in the fall. And who wouldn't want to partner up with the Cape Ann All-League player and Bay State games Silver medalist? Brown is quite the athlete overall, playing varsity soccer on the Division 3 state championship team in 2003, as the team's leading scorer. You can also find Brown on another court - the basketball court, playing for the Division 3 EMass champions. Brown also holds the titles of Junior Class Vice President, President of the Student Council, and Vice President of the National Honor Society. | |

Granato excelled this season with her partner Stone, going 16-1 and advancing to the final of the MIAA North Sectional. As captain of the stellar Concord-Carlisle squad, Granato has gone undefeated in singles play. She has been named Dual County League first team All-Star for three consecutive years. A three sport athlete, Granato is captain of the field hockey team as well as two-time DCL All-Star and plays basketball. Academically, Granato has achieved high honors and received the department award in mathematics. Aside from sports, Granato enjoys hanging out with her friends and listening to music. In the fall, she will attend Stonehill college. | |

Mike Pulizzi, Xaverian

Pulizzi led Xaverian to an 18-3 record and its first Catholic Conference championship since 1984. In four years coaching the Hawks, Pulizzi has a 44-31 record. He called this spring's team, ``A great group of boys who have worked hard all season and who have built a positive team chemistry in what is often an individual sport.'' Pulizzi played high school tennis at Central Catholic High School in Norwalk, Conn., where he graduated in 1985. From there he moved on to Fairfield University, and was a member of the class of 1989. Pulizzi likes reading, running, watching PBS with his children, and eating ice cream with his family. | |
Jim Merchant, Old Rochester

Merchant's eighth year as head coach of Old Rochester was arguably his
best ever. The team finished with an 18-3 record and advanced to the MIAA
Division 2 South semifinals, where it lost to Duxbury, 4-1. About his team,
Merchant said, ``This is by far the best group of seniors that I've been
blessed with in areas that make you proud . . . graciousness, competitive
spirit, and leadership, and just a fun bunch to be around.'' Merchant is a
1965 graduate of Bishop Stang and has made his living participating in
various basketball enterprises. He was a successful high school coach in
Iowa and is the Marketing Director of Operations for TrueBounce Backboards
of New Bedford. |

Dave Anderson, Sandwich

In his first year playing high school tennis, Anderson came out blazing. Just a freshman, he earned the No. 1 singles position at Sandwich and soon proved he could handle the pressure, going undefeated (18-0) in the regular season. The winning didn't stop there; Anderson advanced to the MIAA South Sectional tournament and won it, becoming the first Sandwich tennis player to ever win that tournament. His final record, including the postseason, was 26-0 heading into yesterday's individual finals. He was also presented the Sportsmanship Award for his team. Along with being an Atlantic Coast League All-Star, Anderson is ranked No. 5 in USTA 16-and-under. He also made high honor roll and enjoys soccer and basketball. | |
Eric Fleming, Brookline

As an All-Scholastic last spring, Fleming dropped just one match. In his second All-Scholastic appearance, Fleming duplicated the feat, going undefeated in the regular season. His successful run continued in the postseason. In the individual tennis tournament Fleming advanced to the South Sectional final where he lost to fellow All-Scholastic Dave Anderson. In the team tournament he led Brookline to the EMass title, as the Warriors beat Lexington, 3-2, to advance to the state final. In Bay State Conference play he went 16-0 this spring. Fleming has been ranked as high as the top 50 nationally in USTA 16-and-under and is presently ranked in the top 5 in 18-and-under competition. A member of the varsity boys' basketball team, Fleming hopes to continue to contribute on both courts next year for the Warriors. | |
Christopher Kiely, Bedford

Kiely improved on his 11-3 junior year in his second appearance as an All-Scholastic and advanced to the MIAA North Sectional final. After defeating fellow All-Scholastic Chip Palumbo in the semis, Kiely lost 6-1, 6-1 to Central Catholic's Jason Sechrist in the final. During his time as a Buccaneer, Bedford has won four straight Dual County League titles as well as the 2002 state championship. A member of the National Honor Society, Kiely was inducted into the Bedford High School Academic Hall of Fame. Next fall, Kiely will attend Northeastern University. He also plays soccer and enjoys poker as a hobby. | |
James Micheroni, Sharon

Tall and slender, Micheroni may not look like a force but the results say different. Playing No. 1 and No. 2 singles for Sharon this year, Micheroni was undefeated in the Hockomock League and advanced to the semifinals of the MIAA South Sectional. His undefeated Hockomock season was not an abberation; Micheroni hasn't lost in the Hockomock League for the past two seasons. Micheroni was key in helping his team advance to the MIAA Division 1 South quarterfinals, though his team was eventually knocked out by Brookline. Micheroni also plays soccer and while college is a year off, he plans to major in business wherever he lands. | |
Chip Palumbo, Winchester

Behind the leadership of Palumbo, Winchester was a tough team to unseat in state competition. Playing on the undefeated (18-0) Middlesex League champions, Palumbo was almost perfect himself. The MIAA North Sectional semifinalist went 17-1 on the season playing at No. 1 singles. During his three-year career, Palumbo compiled a 53-5 record. Ranked 25th in New England, Palumbo was part of Winchester's 2003 Division 2 state championship team. This year, Winchester won the Division 2 North title, the EMass title in a win over Wellesley, and played for a second straight state crown. The high honor student will participate in USTA tennis this summer as well as compete at the Northeast Tennis Center in Middleton. | |
Alex Rastorgouev, Brookline

Playing second singles, Rastorgouev helped lead Brookline to an undefeated season (16-0) and a No. 1 seed in the state tournament. In the post-season, Brookline won the Division 1 North sectional title and EMass crown. The 6-0, 175-pound junior was also undefeated on the season and is currently ranked fourth in New England. Additionally, Rastorgouev is ranked in the top 20 percent in the 2004 National Junior Standings and is 24-21 in national competition. This first time All-Scholastic is considering colleges like Boston University, Brown, and the University of North Carolina. He enjoys watching the Ultimate Fighting Championships, fishing, and hanging out with his friends. | |
Jason Sechrist, Central Catholic

With his 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Bedford's Chris Kiley in the MIAA North Sectional final, Sechrist became just the second person in school history to advance to the MIAA boys' Individual State Tennis Tournament held yestereday at Harvard. Following up his 21-0 junior season in style, Sechrist posted a 17-0 record this season and led Central Catholic to an appearance in the Division 1 North tournament. Sechrist has been a success in his entire high school career. His sophomore year he went 17-3 and won the Merrimack Valley Conference co-MVP. His freshman year he was an MVC All-Conference selection. | |
Mike Sperling, Wayland

Sperling capped off a great senior year with a great run through the
state individual tournament, a run that ended in semifinals. His team
advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division 2 North sectional, losing to
powerhouse Winchester, 3-2. Sperling is a two-time Dual County League
All-Star. He has been captain of the Wayland High School squad for two
years. This season, he was voted team Most Valuable Player. Outside of
tennis, Sperling is also an accomplished wrestler. He is the captain of the
wrestling team that finished second in the DCL this winter. When not
slamming people to the mat or slamming a forehand over the net, Sperling
likes to listen to music and hang out with his friends. This fall, he will
attend Harvard University. |

Philip DeMeo, Bedford

It's been a long time since since DeMeo has felt the agony of defeat. DeMeo and his partner Brian Spencer swept through the competition this season, going 21-0, and winning the MIAA North Sectional doubles championship. Yesterday they played for a state title at Harvard. In the last two years DeMeo has not lost, and has been named first team Dual County League All-Star for two straight seasons. In fact, this member of the 2002 state champions has only lost two matches in his entire career. As a senior and first time All-Scholastic, DeMeo also proved he could hit winners in the classroom, earning membership in the National Honor Society. He enjoys soccer and hanging out with friends in his spare time. DeMeo will attend Boston University in the fall where he hopes to continue his tennis career. | |
Rhamy Zeid, Wellesley

As captain of the competitive Wellesley tennis team, Zeid's leadership and solid play pushed his team to a 17-1 record and a MIAA Division 2 South Championship. Zeid and his partner Nathan green were undefeated until meeting Winchester in the Division 2 state team semifinals. Zeid and his partner Green won the MIAA South Sectional doubles championship and played for a state title yesterday at Harvard. Four years of varsity tennis have led to four years as a Bay State All-Star and two All-Scholastic appearances. Zeid has been the captain of the soccer team for the past two seasons and has earned Bay State All-Star honors for two years as well. In the classroom, Zeid is an honor roll student. This fall he will attend Northeastern. | |
Matthew Braley, Wayland

In his first year playing Massachusetts high school tennis, this Georgia native quickly made his mark. Braley went 15-2 this spring and advanced to the finals of the MIAA North individual tournament. There, Braley and teammate Jonathan Pivor fell in straight sets to Bedford's All-Scholastic duo of Philip DeMeo and Brian Spencer, 6-2, 7-6. While in Georgia, Braley played third singles his freshman year on a team that won the Georgia state championship. At Wayland, Braley also competes in cross-country. Down time for Braley is spent enjoying photography, ceramics, and participating in community service. | |
Aaron Kleefield, Newton North

An MIAA South Sectional finalist, Kleefield's sophomore year ended with a 14-1 record. He made the Bay State League All-Star second team. Newton North advanced to the semifinals of the MIAA Division 1 South tournament, upsetting No. 2 seed Barnstable along the way, 5-0. Kleefield also plays basketball and describes himself as and A's and B's student who makes the honor roll. He likes to go to the beach and chill with his friends. In the future he hopes to become a professional tennis player and or surfer and wants to attend the University of California-Santa Clara. This summer, Kleefield will train at the Bollettieri Tennis Academy and play in as many tournaments as he can fit in. | |
Brian Spencer, Bedford

Next year Spencer will find have to find a new partner, and the pair will have a tall task to live up to. This spring at first doubles, Spencer and partner Philip DeMeo went 21-0 and beat John Pivor and Matt Braley, of Wayland, in the North sectional championship match, 6-2, 7-6. The 5-7, 140-pound junior was part of the 2002 state championship team. For the past three seasons Spencer has been named a Dual County League All-Star. Outside of tennis, he also plays soccer and hockey. And, believe it or not, Spencer says he likes to mow the lawn. When not enjoying his chores this summer, Spencer will participate in the Soccer Phantoms club team. | |
Nathan Green, Wellesley

In his second year of varsity tennis, Green and partner Rhamy Zeid capped off their season by winning the MIAA South Sectional, defeating Alain Manigat and Aaron Kleefield of Newton North, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). Not only did the pair go undefeated on the season until the EMass finals, they didn't drop a single set all year until their match with Winchester. This year Green became a two-sport athlete, joining the soccer team. The 5-11, 150-pound Green also made the honor roll. He also enjous hiking, reading, working, and hanging out with his friends. In two years when it comes for a college decision, Green says he hopes it is ``somewhere in the south,'' either University of Virginia, Vanderbilt, or Emory. | |

Playing first doubles in the competitive Dual County League this spring, Pivor and his partner, Matt Braley, dropped just two matches, posting a record of 15-2. They advanced thru the MIAA North sectional where they eventually fell to DCL foes Phil DeMeo and Brian Spencer in the final. Wayland was seeded No. 7 in the tournament and took down Hamilton-Wenham, 5-0, before falling to Winchester, 3-2, in the quarterfinals. Pivor is a two-time DCL All-Star as well as a Metro West All-Star. Academically, he earned a U.S. History Award and he enjoys photography and participates in community service projects. He wil attend Drew University in the fall. | |

In Manigat's second appearance as an All-Scholastic, he and partner Kleefield advanced to the final of the MIAA South Sectional tournament, falling to Rhamy Zeid and Nathan Green of Wellesley, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). For his efforts this season, Manigat was chosen a second-team Bay State All-Star. He was also part of a Newton North team that won a 2002 MIAA state championship. A true scholar-athlete, Manigat has been an honor roll student, a Medalist for the National French exam, and a Student Athlete of the Month. He likes to read, listen to music, watch movies, and travel. This summer he will play USTA New England tournaments and in the fall, he'll attend Boston College. | |
