Boys' tennis

Singles

Jeffrey Beaton, Pentucket
 JUNIOR
Beaton was among the best singles players north of the Mass Pike this season. He went undefeated during the regular season playing at first singles, compiling a 15-0 record. The Cape Ann League took note of his accomplishments, selecting him for the all-star team and Player of the Year. He has competed in USTA National tournaments and received a team tennis sportsmanship award in 2004. In his free time, Beaton enjoys spending time with friends and painting. He has been on the honor roll every term at Pentucket. In the offseason, Beaton competes with the Cedardale 18 and under Advanced USTA Team.
Joseph Delinks, Falmouth
 SOPHOMORE
Delinks had the unenviable task of beating a teammate to win the South sectional individual final. But the sophomore handled the situation with aplomb, dispatching teammate Sean Pease, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. For the season, he was 27-0 and helped his team to a 20-0 mark. He is currently ranked 14th in the USTA New England Under 16 rankings. Delinks is an honor roll student and enjoys fishing and playing tennis. He hones his game at the Kevin Pease School of Tennis in Falmouth. Delinks hopes to play Division 1 tennis after he graduates.
Adam Gart, Bedford
 SENIOR
Gart capped off his career at Bedford with an appearance in the North Sectional semifinals, where he lost to eventual champion Anton Nikolov 7-5,6-4. During the regular season, he compiled a 12-1 record for Bedford, including a 3-0 mark in the first singles slot. In his three year varsity career, Gart only lost six matches. In his free time the 5-foot 11-inch 145-pound senior enjoys snowboarding, skiing and playing cards. In the summer, Gart will be competing in USTA tournaments. He will attend University of Rhode Island in the fall and will play tennis for the Rams.
Anton Nikolov, Ashland
 SOPHOMORE
Just a sophomore, Nikolov has many accomplishments to his name. He completed a 17-1 regular season for Ashland and then went on to win six straight matches to take the North sectional title, which he won, 6-4, 7-6, over Christo Schultz of Weston. He is ranked fifth in New England in his age group by USTA and was named Tri-Valley League MVP as a freshman. But surely one of his most satisfying undertakings was winning the Ashland High School Ping Pong tournament crown last year. In his free time, Nikolov enjoys playing Ping Pong and throwing the frisbee. He hopes to play tennis in college.
Sean Pease, Falmouth
 JUNIOR
Pease leads a group of four from Falmouth, the team most represented on this page. Both he and the team compiled 20-0 records during the regular season. In the invidudual tournament, he advanced all the way to the South Sectional finals, where he lost in an all-Falmouth final to teammate Joe Delinks, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. His team didn’t fare as well, falling in the South Sectional semifinals of the team tournament to Sharon. In his career, Pease has only dropped four matches out of 54 in the regular season and is 7-1 in postseason play. He enjoys playing the drums, listening to hip-hop and refining his rap writing skills.
Christo Schultz, Weston
 FRESHMAN
At 15, Schultz has already become one of the state’s best singles player. The freshman went 20-3 in his first year of varsity tennis and reached the finals of the North sectional of the individual tournament, where he lost to sophomore Anton Nikolov, 6-4, 7-6. Schultz is ranked 25th in New England by USTA and competes with the Academy of Tennis in the offseason. In the classroom, Schultz has matched his early athletic successes. He has straight A’s, has maintained a 4.0 GPA, and is on the high honor roll. In his free time, Schultz enjoys playing tennis, football, community service, and traveling.
Gregg Weinman, Needham
 JUNIOR
You’d have to believe better things are yet to come for Weinman. In his junior year, Weinman advanced to the semifinals of the Individual state tournament, where he bowed out Sean Pease, 6-3, 7-5. For the third consecutive season, he earned Bay State League all-star honors, dropping only three matches in his junior campaign. The captain-elect has been ranked in the Top 20 in the USTA’s New England Under-16 rankings. Weinman has been on the honor roll every year at Needham. He enjoys hanging out with friends and family, listening to music and watching television, especially Sportscenter. He hopes to play tennis in college.
Nick White, Wellesley
 SENIOR
White has been Wellesley’s best since his sophomore season when he earned the right play first singles. He led by example this season by going 18-0 in league and playoff play. The senior advanced to the semifinals of the South Sectional of the Individual state championship before losing to eventual sectional champion Joe Delinks, 6-3, 6-3. White plays in USTA tournaments and has been ranked as high as 8th in New England in the Under 18 division. He was named team MVP this season and compiled a 53-7 record for his career. In his free time he enjoys playing golf, listening to music and snowboarding. He will play for Trinity College next year.

Doubles

Patrick Burns, Acton-Boxboro
 SENIOR
Burns and his doubles teammate Ryan Lemos were among the best tandems in the state. They breezed through the regular season, picking up an 18-1 record heading into the individual tournament. In the tournament, they won the North sectional final, where they beat Harry King and Peter Litwin of Concord-Carlisle, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. The 5-foot-11-inch, 190-pound Burns has compiled a 40-3 career record. In his free time, Burns enjoys playing golf. Next year he will attend Villanova and will play for its Division 1 tennis program.
Harry King, Concord-Carlisle
 JUNIOR
King has been a versatile player for Concord-Carlisle. During his three-year career, he has played in every position except first singles. He had his most successful season as a singles player last year when he advanced to the quarterfinals of the individual tournament. This season, he teamed up with former singles standout Peter Litwin to form a tough first doubles team. They went 13-3 during the regular season and reached the finals of the North sectional. King is a member of the National Honor Society and is on the Concord-Carlisle honor roll. He has competed in the Bay State Games. In his free time, King enjoys skiing and hanging out with friends.
Ryan Lemos, Acton-Boxboro
 SOPHOMORE
With Burns, Lemos advanced to the North sectional final of the inviduaul state tournament, where they defeated Harry King and Peter Litwin of Concord-Carlisle, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. During the season, the duo compiled an 18-1 record. His Acton-Boxboro team made it to the finals of the North sectional team tournament, where they lost to EMass champion Concord-Carlisle, 4-1. In his career, the 5-foot-8-inch, 126-pound Lemos has a 32-3 record, which gives him a .914 winning percentage. Lemos, a sophomore, excels off the court, too — he is an honor roll student. In his free time, Lemos enjoys playing golf and skiing.
Peter Litwin, Concord-Carlisle
 SENIOR
After a successful, if unspectacular three-year varsity career as a singles player, Litwin made the switch to doubles. The change paid enormous dividends. The senior captain paired with Harry King to make a doubles tandem that finished the regular season 13-3 and went on to make an appearance in the North sectional finals, where they lost to Acton-Boxboro’s Ryan Lemos and Pat Burns, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Litwin was a Dual County League All-Star soccer player and has notable academic achievements, including winning the school’s President’s Award and spending four consecutive years on the honor roll. In his free time, he enjoys skiing, visiting Cape Cod, and spending time with friends. He will play soccer for Bates.
Zachary Arbit, Sharon
 SENIOR
Take a basketball forward and a football tight end, it’s easy to see how similar athletic attributes would be needed for both competitors. But it would be hard to imagine a strong safety roaming the defensive backfield on a football field translating his skills so effortlessly into those of an elite tennis player. But that’s what Arbit has done. The punter/wide receiver/strong safety from the Sharon football was a member of Sharon’s 2005 state championship team and he reached the finals of the South sectional this season. The senior achieved Magna Cum Laude on the National Latin Exam and will be attending the University of Central Florida.
Brennan Dugas, Falmouth
 SENIOR
Such was Dugas’s and Litterst’s dominance this season, the duo didn’t drop a set during their 20-0 regular-season campaign. Their sparkling play did not stop there. In the individual state championship tournament, they once again swept past their competitors and won the South sectional title. Dugas has played for Falmouth for four years and captained the squad each of the past two seasons. He was also an All-Scholastic selection in 2005. In his free time, Dugas enjoys going to the beach and playing whatever sports he can. He will attend Rochester Institute of Technology and study engineering.
Richard Litterst, Falmouth
 FRESHMAN
Though as far as his win/loss record is concerned there’s no where to go but down, don’t look for Litterst to let up next season. In his freshman campaign, Litterst teamed up with Brennan Dugas and the duo, as well as the team, finished 20-0 in regular season play. They had a strong showing in the individual tournament. They defeated Scott Rosen and Zack Arbit of Sharon 6-2, 6-2 in the south sectional final and they helped their Falmouth team advance to the South Sectional semifinals in the team state tournament. Litterst has thus far been no slouch in the classroom: he sports a 3.98 GPA. In his free time he enjoys playing guitar, video games and baseball.
Scott Rosen, Sharon
 SENIOR
Take a look at the numbers and you’ll quickly find Rosen’s success. He’s compiled a 48-11 wins as a four year letterman for the Sharon tennis team, good for a .814 winning percentage. This season he compiled a 10-2 record as Zachary Arbit’s partner and went 2-0 in singles matches. He and Arbit advanced to the South Sectional finals, where they lost to Brennan Dugas and Richie Litterst of Falmouth. Rosen was also a member of Sharon’s 2005 State championship team. In his free time, he enjoys playing recreational baseball and coaching youth basketball and baseball teams. He will attend Bentley in the fall and hopes to play tennis for the school.

Coaches of the Year

Michael Sabin, Wellesley
 DIVISI0N 1
A state champion in 2005, a 23-1 record this spring that included a berth in the South Sectional finals. It’s been an amazing two-year run for Sabin and the Raiders of Wellesley. Wellesley’s loss in the sectional finals ended a 48-match win streak that included 25 straight in ’05. ‘‘Although an individual sport for most of the year, the players came together, as they do each spring.’’ Sabin is a 1982 Holliston graduate and he’s the tennis pro at Wayside Raquet & Swim Club in Marlboro. He also coaches the Wellesley boys’ soccer team.
Rob Bilsbury, Manchester-Essex
 DIVISION 2
It was another incredible season for Manchester-Essex boys’ tennis. Bilsbury led the Hornets (17-1) to their fifth Cape Ann League title and the No. 2 seed in the Divsion 2 North tournament. Manchester cruised through each of the first three rounds, winning each match by a score of 5-0. but lost in the final to Winchester. Bilsbury, Cape Ann League Coach of the Year, is 104-23 in his eight years at the helm. He is also the coach of the soccer team. He graduated from Masconomet (1989) where he played soccer, tennis and wrestled. In his spare time Bilsbury plays the guitar and loves to fish with his father.
