Players of the year

Casey O’Leary, St. Mary’s
 SENIOR
Along with Price, O’Leary helps St. Mary’s make up 50 percent of our spring golf team. O’Leary carried an impressive 32 point per match average during a season in which he and Price led St. Mary’s to an undefeated 14-0 season, which he finished with a second place showing at the Central Catholic League individual championship tournament. The 5-foot 10-inch O’Leary competes on the Junior Titleist Tour and has won four tour events. In the classroom, he is a B student. In his spare time, he enjoys bowling, fishing and relaxing. O’Leary will attend Methodist College in Fayetteville, N.C. in the fall.
Kerri Connolly, Duxbury
 JUNIOR
Connolly staked her claim as the state’s best golfer with two sparkling performances in the postseason. At the individual state championship, she held off Erin Boyle in a playoff after shooting a 78. A week earlier ,at the team championships, where her Duxbury team finished third, Connolly set a course and tournament record by shooting a 5-under-par 66. But Connolly is no stranger to accolades. This is her third consecutive All-Scholastic selection and she has two runner-up finishes at the New England championships to her credit. Connolly also has two league all-star selections as a center for the Green Dragons hockey team. The honor roll student hopes to play golf at a Division 1 school after she graduates.

Coaches of the year

Bill Corley, Bishop Fenwick
 BOYS
If there’s a group of seniors that should be appreciative of their coach, it’s the boys’ golfers at Bishop Fenwick High School. The players not only made the state tournament all four years under Corley, but also left on a perfect note with a 9-1 league record this year (10-2 overall). Corley, in his fifth year in charge of the Fenwick team (43-17 record), won’t forget his talented group either, calling them a ‘‘great bunch of players and a real pleasure to work with.’’ Corley, who is also the assistant boys’ hockey coach at Bishop Fenwick and the head golf coach at Hamilton-Wenham, is a a 1976 graduate of St. Anselm (N.H.) College and is a member of the Mass. Hockey Coaches Association.
Robert Weiss, Hingham
 GIRLS
Quite a bit has changed from Year 1 to Year 2 of Weiss’s tenure. Last season, Weiss’s first as Hingham head coach, his team finished 8-10 and failed to make it to the state finals tournament. But a year made a big difference. Hingham finished fourth in the team standings this year and that finish will certainly make perennial power, neighbor Notre Dame Academy, take notice of what’s going on at the other side of town. Weiss, 35, is a 1994 graduate of Catholic University and played for the school’s golf team. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, fishing, and cooking.

Girls All-Scholastics

Hannah Bearce, ND Academy
 SENIOR
While writing about another Notre Dame Academy title may produce a round of yawning because of the team’s dominance in recent years, the streak that Bearce has been a part of during her four-year career has been nothing short of amazing. She and her team have compiled a 74-0 record and five consecutive state titles. She was the captain of Notre Dame Academy this season and her team finished 27 strokes clear of second-place Notre Dame of Worcester at the team championships. Bearce is an active member of her school’s campus ministry and Key Club. She will be attending George Washington University in the fall.
Erin Boyle, Wellesley
 SENIOR
Boyle took state champion Kerri Connolly to the brink at the individual state championship tournament, after firing a 78, before losing to Connolly in a playoff. That second consecutive runner-up finish at the state championship capped off a spectacular career that earned her a scholarship to Wake Forest. In her first three seasons, she was undefeated and earned an All-Scholastic nod last year. Though she dropped two matches in her senior year, she earned a Bay State League title. Boyle is also on the indoor track and lacrosse teams and has been on the school’s honor roll every term.
Christina Crovetti, Amesbury

Crovetti helped Amesbury to a Cape Ann League title, going 9-5-1 during the regular season and averaging a 38. The 5-foot-1-inch Crovetti also played for Amesbury’s Cape Ann League title-holding softball team, which went 20-3 this season. Off the course, she has thrived as a Spanish speaker, earning membership in the Spanish Honor Society. Covetti will be attending North Carolina-Pembroke on a golf scholarship.
Johanna Dolle, Brookline

In the first week in May, few were in midseason form. But for Brookline junior Johanna Dolle, the conditions at the Woodland Golf Course in Newton were perfect. Dolle finished the day with the eighth best score among EMass competitors, recording a 19-over 91. The number dropped as the season progressed and her 43 for nine holes at the Mass Bay North tournament tied her for first place. Dolle played the No. 1 position for the Warriors and was league all-star for a second straight season. Dolle competes in the summer in the WGAM Challenge Cup. When she’s not playing golf, she working in the gym as she is a Brown Belt in karate.

This season, Hanlon finished fifth at the individual championships (82) and third overall at the team championships (76). She will play Division 1 golf at Hofstra.
Arianna Iapicca, H-W
 SOPHOMORE
Iapicca turned in a strong performance at the individual championships, shooting an 89, which tied her for 13th in the field. In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano, being a member of both the Foreign Language and Interact Club, and working at Middleton Golf Course, where she once nailed a hole in one. Just a sophomore, there is more MIAA golf in store for the 5-foot-3-inch Iapicca and she hopes her future play can earn her a golf scholarship at a four-year college.
Jackie McMenimon, ND Academy
 JUNIOR
McMenimon will have to carry the torch next season for Notre Dame Academy as seniors Hannah Bearce and Allie Hanlon move on and take with them the experience of five consecutive state championships and an undefeated record. But McMenimon has been just as vital to Notre Dame’s recent success. This season she finished fourth at the team championship tournament, shooting an 81, and had an unblemished individual record during the regular season. McMenimon also plays basketball and soccer for her school. In her free time, she enjoys snowboarding, eating, fishing, and watching movies.

A nationally ranked junior golfer, Whitney is the captain and founder of Hingham’s girls’ golf team. She twice has recorded a low 18-hole competitive round of 73, and she recorded a 74 at this year’s MIAA team championship. Whitney is also vice president of the junior class.

This spring he finished his career by shooting a 6-over page 78 at the Division 3 final at the Mill Valley Country Club. At the Catholic Central League champion, Gordon turned in an 11-over 81.
