Alex Ferris, Middlesex School
![]() |
Ferris slowly ascended to the top of the ISL golfing ranks. As a freshman, he played as his team's sixth-seeded player. In his sophomore and junior seasons, he played from the third slot. This season, he was his team's captain and top-positioned player. He helped Middlesex to a 10-2 record and an Independent School League team championship. In the championship tournament, he finished fourth, shooting a 78. The 5-foot-10-inch, 165-pound Ferris earned honors status in both his junior and senior years. He will attend Elon.
Brian Freitas, Thayer Academy
![]() |
Was there a better all-around runner in New England prep track this year? Here are the statistics to back Freitas. He won three titles at the New England Prep Division 2 meet: the 110 hurdles, the 300 hurdles, and the 400 meters. Of course, this fantastic season wasn't his first. His win in the 300 hurdles was his third consecutive title at the Division 2 meet and his victory in the 400 was his second in a row. The junior also plays soccer for Thayer Academy and is on the school swim team. The 5-foot-9-inch, 135-pound Freitas enjoys singing and playing Ultimate Frisbee in his free time.
Jake Hardy, Middlesex School
![]() |
At an imposing 6 feet 5 inches and 200 pounds, Hardy would seem the perfect defensive foil to record-setting attacker Max Quinzani of Duxbury. Though they will not cross paths on a high school field, Hardy will cross sticks against the nation's best attackers at the 2006 National High School Senior Showcase in Missouri next week. He earned All-ISL, All-New England, and All-America honors during his senior season. Hardy also earned league all-star nominations for captaining Middlesex's hockey team. He has been on the honor roll every semester and he will attend Brown.

She earned the team MVP in field events for her skill in high jump and triple jump. Her personal best in the high jump is 5 feet 2 inches, which is a school record. Her effort in the triple jump at the 2005 NEPSTA championship is a meet record. Munabi's talents will take her to Stanford.
Charlie Posner, Milton Academy
![]() |
Posner's dominance goes beyond the fact that he hasn't lost a match in his career and went 19-0 this season. He didn't drop a set while playing both singles and doubles. His team responded to his spectacular example by winning the Independent School League title and the Class A New England Prep School Championship. During the summer, Wray competes in AJGA and MGA tournaments. Last summer, he had a strong performance in the Massachusetts State Junior championship, where he finished ninth.
Dan Zailskas, Milton Academy
![]() |
Where is Zailskas a bigger threat - on the mound or in the batter's box? There's a good case for both. In his senior season, Zailskas went 6-1 with a 1.02 ERA in 46 innings, striking out 60. That ERA was tops in the Independent School League. He hit .389 with one home run, 12 RBIs to go along with a .583 on-base percentage in 52 plate appearances. Zailskas was an accomplished football player, twice an All-New England selection and three times as all-ISL selection. The 6-foot-1-inch Zailskas, who is headed to Harvard, enjoys playing tennis and golf and discussing philosophy.
EIL Spring Team
Meghan Arsenault, Newton CD
![]() |

Her numbers pushed her team to an undefeated season and Eastern Independent League title. She was named league and team MVP. In her career, the captain struck out 305. Arsenault's athletic prowess is not limited to the softball field - she was captain of the basketball team this season and will be next season, too. She is a member of the National Honor Society and co-head of the school's community service committee.
Kyle Bishop, Pingree
![]() |
Bishop achieved the impressive feat of repeating as both his team and the Eastern Independent League Most Valuable Player while serving as team captain. In his four-year career, Bishop never lost a regular-season match while leading Pingree to appearances in the New England Small School championship game, which they won in 2005 and 2006. This season, the senior took the majority of faceoffs and was the league's second leading scorer. Bishop, a Wenham native, will play for Colorado College next season.
Juan Gonzalez, Pingree
![]() |

He has played in the Bay State Games and for the Lawrence Legion. Gonzalez will attend Western New England College.
Garrett Lane, Pingree
![]() |
His 10-0 record during the season would be impressive enough for inclusion on this page. But the sophomore lost only seven games all season playing first singles for Pingree and didn't drop a set on the court. The 5-foot-11-inch, 130-pound Lane improved his career record at Pingree to 20-2. He competes in USTA tournaments and is currently ranked No. 12 in his age group. Lane also plays basketball and runs cross-country. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music and watching sports. He hopes to attend college and study architecture or life sciences.
Damen Nisula, Cushing Academy
![]() |
Nisula did everything a coach could want from a catcher. He handled a strong Cushing Academy pitching staff and put up gaudy offensive numbers: a .379 batting average and a .606 on-base percentage, striking out only six times in 66 at-bats. Nisula also had a leadership role on Cushing's hockey team, where he served as assistant captain. The 5-foot-11-inch Nisula was awarded Cushing's Vincent V.R. Booth 1923 Award, given to the student who has contributed to the betterment of the school's community. He will attend Salem State.
Jill Wexler, Pingree

Briggs was named student body president by her peers this year. She enjoys music, dancing, studio art, and writing. She will attend Yale.
Lindsay Maroney, Phillips Andover
![]() |
Since statistical evaluation of ballplayers is in vogue, we'll bite and show you just how good Maroney has been. Despite missing three games due to injury this season, Maroney led the team statistically in 12 offensive categories. Her batting average was .259 above the team average of .307; she had nine extra-base hits while the rest of the team had 10. She had two triples and two home runs; the rest of the team had three triples and no homers. She had seven of the team's 17 stolen bases and was not thrown out. Convinced?
