Players of the year

Kevin Scanlan, Lincoln-Sudbury
 DIVISION 1
Scanlan, who relies on his sharp curve and ability to spot his pitches, had the best season of any EMass pitcher (12-0, nine shutouts) and capped it with a win over Algonquin for the Division 1 state title. He will attend the University of Maine.
Matt Ruane, Belmont
 DIVISION 2
Ruane scored an 800 on his math SAT, and his stats on the diamond were equally impressive. He was 7-0 and batted .521, leading Belmont to the Division 2 North sectional title. An all-league selection in football, he will attend Bowdoin.
James Hamilton, Harwich
 DIVISION 3
Hamilton, the Division 3A player of year in football, capped his high school career with a complete-game win over St. Joseph’s in the Division 3 state title game. He led the South Shore League with a 0.41 ERA and will attend Bridgewater State.

Coaches of the year

Bill Tompkins, Walpole
 DIVISION 1
Tompkins skippered a Walpole squad that went 20-4 en route to a Bay State League title and an appearance in the Division 1 South final. A Springfield College graduate, he has coached Walpole for 29 seasons, compiling a 439-198 record.
Peter Moscariello, Reading
 DIVISION 2
Moscariello steered his squad to a 19-3 record and a Middlesex League championship. In his 29-year career, he has amassed a 460-172 record and 11 Middlesex League titles. A University of New Hampshire grad, this is his second Coach of the Year award.
Peter Ambrose, Cardinal Spellman
 DIVISION 3
Ambrose notched his 600th career win at Cardinal Spellman, becoming just the fourth coach in Massachusetts to reach that milestone. His team went 17-5 and won the Catholic Central League title for the second year in a row.

The All-Scholastics

Brian Bodjiak, Sandwich
 Pitcher/OF, Sr.
Bodjiak batted .500 and hit seven home runs to power Sandwich to a 12-8 record and a second-place finish in the Atlantic Coast South. His squad lost to Weymouth in the playoffs. Bodjiak also plays basketball and will attend Elon University.
Conor Burke, St. John's Prep
 Pitcher, Sr.
Burke was named MVP of the Catholic Conference, arguably the most competitive league in the state. He went 7-1 with a 0.70 ERA and threw a no-hitter against BC High. A member of the National Honor Society, he will play baseball for Brown.
Brendan Chapin, Catholic Memorial
 Pitcher, Sr.
Chapin earned his third selection to the Catholic Conference’s All-Star team by posting a 9-2 record and a 1.10 ERA. A returning All-Scholastic, he finished his career with a 21-6 record. He likes beach volleyball and will attend Marist.
Dan Godefroi, Andover
 Pitcher/OF, Sr.
Last year’s Division 1 Player of the Year got off to a slow start because of a nagging ankle injury, but he hit .500 and led Andover to a stellar second half. A two-time all-conference selection in hockey, Godefroi will attend Georgetown.
John Leonard, Hanover
 Pitcher/1B, Sr.
Leonard’s performance on the mound (7-1, 0.48 ERA) and at the plate (.471 average, 25 RBIs) earned him his second straight Patriot League MVP award. An EMass All- Star, he will attend Boston College on a baseball scholarship.
Scott Lobdell, Masconomet
 1B/DH, Sr.
Lobdell is the only non-pitcher to earn All-Scholastic honors this year, and it’s easy to see why. He hit .417 with 27 RBIs and led Masconomet to an appearance in the Division 2 North final. He also plays football and will attend James Madison.
Kyle Martinis, Bellingham
 Pitcher/1B/3B, Sr.
The 6-foot-4-inch, 200-pound Martinis belted eight homers, knocked in 40 runs, and hit .494. The Tri-Valley League MVP had a 6-1 record with 62 strikeouts in 44 innings. Martinis captained the basketball team and will attend Northeastern.
Sean McDermott, Walpole
 Pitcher/1B, Sr.
McDermott compiled some of the finest pitching numbers in the state: a 10-1 record, 119 strikeouts, two saves, and a 0.67 ERA. A two-year captain and four-year varsity player, McDermott was 25-2 in his career. He will attend Virginia Tech.
Kyle Multner, Peabody
 Pitcher/OF, Sr.
Multner, a rare pitcher at the high school level with a knuckleball in his repertoire, used the pitch to help him compile a 6-1 record and a 0.79 ERA while leading Peabody to a 16-2 record and a Greater Boston League title. He will attend UMass-Amherst.
Scott Oberg, Tewksbury
 Pitcher, Sr.
With a 7-1 record, an 0.86 ERA, and 65 strikeouts, Oberg was the Merrimack Valley (Small) Player of the Year. An honor roll student and basketball player, Oberg was selected to the EMass all-star team.
Eric Oxford, Danvers
 Pitcher/1B, Sr.
Oxford, a member of the National Honor Society, won the Northeastern Conference’s scholar-athlete award. He hit .435, drove in 25 runs, and stole nine bases. Oxford, who also plays soccer, will play baseball at Holy Cross.
Roberto Zapata, Boston English
 Pitcher/1B, Sr.
The Dominican-born Zapata captained Boston English to a 16-3 record and a share of the Boston City North title. He helped the Bulldogs win the inaugural City championship and advance to the Division 1 North semifinals.
