Players of the year

Erin Wade, Taunton
 DIVISION 1
  Sporting a 23-2 record with an ERA of 0.08, Wade was next to invincible this year on the mound for the state champion Tigers. With a .403 batting average, two home runs, and 25 RBI, the Hofstra-bound pitcher also helped her cause.
Kim Miner, Concord-Carlisle
 DIVISION 2
  Miner was a formidable force on the mound (14-1, 0.49 ERA) and at the plate (.459 batting average), winning her second Dual County League Most Valuable Player award. A DCL firstteam All-Star for four years, she will attend Tufts University.
Stephanie Mayne, North Reading
 DIVISION 3
  Mayne (.661, 4 HRs, 31 RBIs), a catcher, won the Division 3 Player of the Year award for the second straight year after leading the Hornets to the state championship. Mayne, the Cape Ann Player of the Year, will attend UMass-Amherst.

Coaches of the year

Harry Lowe, New Bedford
 DIVISION 1
  Two-time state champion Lowe led the Whalers to a 21-3 record and a berth in the South sectional final. He calls this year’s team ‘‘one of the closest teams I’ve ever coached, hard workers that loved and respected the game of softball.’’
Mike Bonasia, Dennis-Yarmouth
 DIVISION 2
  Bonasia’s team ended a 34-year drought with its 2007 Atlantic Coast League South title. The Dolphins had to play five games in four days to close the season, and went 4-1 to win the ACL crown and finish an impressive 17-5.
Walter "Rusty" Russell, North Reading
 DIVISION 3
  Russell, a seven-time Cape Ann League Coach of the Year, led the Hornets to the state championship. This year marked the team’s 21st straight playoff appearance. Russell has a 344-136 record over 22 seasons.

The All-Scholastics

Jocelyn Abaray, New Bedford
 Pitcher, Sr.
  Leading the way for the Whalers all season long was Abaray, a 5-foot-6- inch fireballer who racked up 200 strikeouts and powered the team to the Big 3 title and a berth in the South sectional final. She will attend the University of Vermont.
Jen Abrams, Reading
 Catcher, Sr.
  The Middlesex League Most Valuable Player hit .465 and had a fielding percentage of 1.000 en route to earning her third straight All-League first-team selection. Led by Abrams, Reading won the Division 1 North title.
Amanda Berard, Case
 Pitcher, Sr.
  When you’re regarded as the best pitcher in the South Coast Conference, it’s an impressive starting point for a prosepective All-Scholastic. This spring, Berard went 14-5 with 188 strikeouts and a 0.84 ERA. She plans to attend Iona.
Jenna Bortolotti, Milton
 Pitcher, Sr.
  This 5-foot-4-inch fireballer went 17-2 this year with an 0.70 ERA and 181 strikeouts. She leaves the Wildcats after three Bay State League All-Star seasons and winning this year’s league Most Valuable Player honor. She will attend Endicott.
Ashley Burnham, Danvers
 Shortstop, Jr.
  The two-time Northeastern Conference All-Star hit .583 with one home run and 16 RBIs in 2007 en route to earning conference MVP honors. In the summer, she plays for the Concord Raiders, coached by Concord- Carlisle’s Lisa McGloin.
Nicole D'Argento, Ashland
 Pitcher, Soph.
  D’Argento was dominant this spring, with an ERA of 0.00. She was 9-0 with eight shutouts and tossed a perfect game. She was also an offensive threat, hitting .520 with seven homers and 30 RBI. Ashland finished 20-3.
Hannah Everson, Methuen
 Pitcher, Sr.
  Everson, who finished 15-6 this season, threw four no-hitters, including a perfect game against Tyngsboro. Her 895 career strikeouts are a school record. She struck out at least 10 in 61 percent of her games (51 of 84).
Lesley Guenard, Hanover
 Shortstop, Jr.
  Smart in the classroom (No. 1 in her class) and dangerous on the base paths (23 stolen bases), Guenard became the school’s first junior to record more than 100 career hits. A three-time Patriot League All-Star, she hit .548 with three home runs.
Britt Hart, North Andover
 Pitcher, Soph.
  En route to a 20-1 season, Hart racked up 12 shutouts and had a strikeouts-to-walks ratio of 180 to 6. Boasting a 0.39 ERA, her pitching led the Scarlet Knights to the Division 2 EMass championship. She will transfer to the Brooks School.
Melissa Lucas, Central Catholic
 Catcher, Sr.
  A four-year starter for the Red Raiders, Lucas locked up Player of the Year honors in the Merrimack Valley Conference Large division after hitting .585 with six homers and 25 RBIs in the regular season. She has accepted a full scholarship to UConn.
Jessica Moitoza, Taunton
 Left field, Soph.
  The Tigers’ second-year slugger, a National Honor Society member, bashed five homers, drove in 30 runs, and hit .414, but she was also reliable in the outfield, playing error-free ball for the the Division 1 state champions.
Amanda Ryan, West Bridgewater
 Catcher, Sr.
  The backstop drove in 27 runs, batted .472, and had an on-base percentage of .529 as West Bridgewater won the Division 3 South title. She was named the Mayflower League Most Valuable Player. She will attend Rivier College.
