Players of the Year

Division 1: P/3B, Sr.

Scott Weismann, Acton-Boxboro

Weismann dominated the Dual County League, going 7-2 with a 0.95 ERA while batting .455. Those statistics impressed the Tigers, who selected Weismann in the 18th round of the draft. He was named the state player of the year by Gatorade.
Division 2: P/3B, Jr.

Joe Flynn, Plymouth North

Flynn put together a spectacular season, going 12-0 and striking out 119 batters to help Plymouth North go undefeated and claim the Division 2 state championship. The Atlantic Coast League all-star also batted .450 and hit three home runs.
Division 3: P/SS, Sr.

Tim Holland, Georgetown

Holland was a major force in Georgetown’s tournament run. The senior had 22 RBIs and scored 32 runs to go with his .415 batting average, and was 16 for 16 in steals. He also went 10-2 on the mound, boasting a 2.92 ERA with 92 strikeouts.

Coaches of the Year

Division 1

Steve Freker, Malden Catholic

Freker’s Lancers ran away with the Catholic Conference. He navigated MC to a 19-6 record, won the first outright conference title in school history, and advanced to the EMass Division 1 title game. Freker also picked up his 200th win this season.
Division 2

Dwayne Follette, Plymouth North

Plymouth North ran away with the Atlantic Coast League and ran the table this season, going 26-0. The Eagles captured the Division 2 state championship in a 1-0, 10-inning thriller. In his 15th year of coaching, Follette has a career record of 216-99.
Division 3

Ken Connerty, Tyngsboro

Connerty, who coached 20 seasons at UMass-Lowell, has led the Tigers to the EMass championship the past two years after winning consecutive Division 3 North sectional titles. He has won 48 games in three seasons at Tyngsboro.

All-Scholastics

Catcher, Sr.

Matt Collins, Hopkinton

A three-year starter, Collins was named the Tri-Valley League MVP and led Hopkinton to the league title. The team captain batted .475, hit five home runs, and drove in 29 runs. He also struck out only seven times while slugging .820.
Catcher, Sr.

Tom Conley, BC High

Conley, a three-year starter, was among the top sluggers in the Catholic Conference, hitting .474 and driving in 22 runs. After winning the conference MVP and leading the Eagles to the Division 1 state title, he’s taking his game to UMass.
Pitcher/OF, Sr.

Bobby Dean, Danvers

Dean was phenomenal for the Falcons, posting a 0.86 ERA and going 7-1 to improve his career record to 16-1. He also finished with 92 strikeouts, boosting his career total to 184, and batted .422. He’s headed to the University of Vermont.
Pitcher/SS, Sr.

James Katsiroubas, Milton

Katsiroubas’s play was a major factor in Milton’s successful season. The Bay State Conference MVP batted .362 and drove in 13 runs, and boasted a 4-1 record on the mound. He will play for the University of Vermont next season.
Pitcher/1B, Sr.

Derek Klinka, Westford Academy

The team MVP and captain was a major reason why the Grey Ghosts captured the Dual County League title. Klinka went 7-1 and struck out 68 batters in 59 innings, and batted .453 while driving in 18 runs. He will attend Holy Cross.
Pitcher, Sr.

Nate Koneski, Dighton-Rehoboth

Koneski went 11-0, struck out 102 batters, and held opponents to a .106 batting average to help D-R claim its third consecutive South Coast Conference championship. The senior, who will be attending Holy Cross in the fall, won league MVP honors.
Pitcher, Sr.

Chris Labriola, Malden Catholic

While the Lancers won their first outright Catholic Conference title, Labriola went 8-2 with a 1.05 ERA, striking out 60 batters in 68 innings. He finished his career with a 13-4 record, 1.51 ERA, and 93 strikeouts in 101 innings.

Andrew Leenhouts, Franklin

The Franklin ace went 7-1 with a 1.47 ERA this season, striking out 62 en route to winning the Hockomock League MVP. Leenhouts also batted .395, hit two home runs, and slugged .566, helping Franklin bring home the league title and finish 14-8.
Shortstop, Sr.

Monte Marrocco, Winchester

The Middlesex League MVP helped lead the Sachems to a 17-3 record and league title. Marrocco hit .463 with a .605 on-base percentage while earning an EMass All-Star selection. He captained the Winchester football team and played hockey as well.
Pitcher/1B, Sr.

Scott Oberg, Tewksbury

The University of Connecticut-bound Oberg is a two-time All-Scholastic, boasting a career record of 14-3 with a 1.15 ERA. This season he went 5-2 while striking out 65 in 47„ innings, and was named player of the year in the MVC Small.
Pitcher, Sr.

Blaine O'Brien, Scituate

It’s hard to pitch better than O’Brien did this season. He threw back-toback no-hitters, struck out 122 batters in 58 innings, and had an ERA of 0.36. He committed to the University of Georgia, and was drafted in the 34th round by the Phillies.
Pitcher/SS, Sr.

Steve Perakslis, Abington

Perakslis did it all for Abington and was an overpowering presence in the South Shore League. He batted .525 and smacked five home runs, and went 7-3 on the mound with a 1.12 ERA. He also struck out 95 batters in only 62 innings
