Players of the Year

Division 1: Pitcher, Sr.

Erin Wade, Taunton

Wade put up a 23-2 record and 0.38 ERA in her final season as a Tiger, striking out 283 batters (against just 21 walks) over 167 innings. She was also great at the plate, leading the team in hits (33), RBIs (26), and batting average (.413).
Division 2: Pitcher, Jr.

Nicole D'Argento, Ashland

Named the Gatorade state high school player of the year, D’Argento went 22-0 in the regular season with 288 strikeouts and a 0.23 ERA. In addition to a perfect game, she pitched a remarkable seven nohitters.
Division 3: Pitcher, Sr.

Katelynn Fanning, St. Mary's

The Salem State-bound ace went 13-2 with a 1.08 ERA this season, but also contributed at the plate (.413 average, 22 runs, 11 RBIs) and on the base paths (12 steals) for the Spartans, who won the Division 3 North crown.

Division 1

Tom Grandy, Braintree

The 30-year veteran, who formerly coached at Archbishop Williams and Nobles, oversaw a great campaign from his Wamps (23-2) that peaked with a Division 1 South sectional title victory over defending state champ Taunton.
Division 2

Steve O'Neill, Ashland

The Providence College graduate led the Clockers to a 27-0 record and their first state title since 1998. He was the coach of the year in the Tri- Valley League. He said his team is a ‘‘talented, hard-working, dedicated group of athletes.’
Division 3

Colleen Newbury, St. Mary's

Newbury led the Spartans to a 22-3 record and a share of the Catholic Central League title. She holds high praise for her 2008 squad — ‘‘The hardest working, most dedicated bunch of players that I have ever coached.''

All-Scholastics

Shortstop, Jr.

Emily Beinecke, Concord-Carlisle

The two-time Dual County League all-star was named league MVP this season after batting .631 with one homer and 33 RBIs. She is a member of the National Honor Society and also plays soccer and basketball. She enjoys listening to music.
Shortstop, Sr.

Ashley Burnham, Danvers

Twenty-four intentional walks didn’t stop Burnham from leaving a mark on Northeastern Conference pitchers. She batted .641 with five homers and 16 doubles to garner NEC all-star honors. She’ll attend James Madison University.
Pitcher, Jr.

Kerry Desmond, Ipswich

A Cape Ann League all-star, Desmond (17-3, 1.68 ERA) helped guide the Tigers to a share of the CAL’s small division championship. In addition to her solid pitching, she hit four home runs to become an offensive threat.
Center field, Sr.

Meg Dow, West Bridgewater

Dow knocked in 32 runs and batted .537 with a pair of homers to earn the Mayflower League MVP award. One of the driving forces in the Wildcats’ Division 3 EMass title run and 22-3 record, Dow will attend Assumption College.
Pitcher, Jr.

Liz DiMascio, Braintree

The Bay State League all-star and team captain broke through as a junior with a 17-1 record that included three no-hitters and four one-hitters. She also allowed just five earned runs this season and posted an ERA of 0.26.
Shortstop, Sr.

Lesley Guenard, Hanover

A gifted offensive talent, Guenard racked up 41 hits, 26 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases to earn Patriot League all-star honors in her final season. With four school records in hand, she will continue her career at Wheaton (Ill.) College next season.
Pitcher, Sr.

Jennifer Jones, King Philip

The Hockomock League MVP led her team to a second straight conference title with a 13-1 record, 108 strikeouts, and 0.36 ERA. The Bridgewater State-bound hurler also had eight shutouts this season and a perfect game.
Pitcher, Sr.

Jennifer Lowrey, Apponequet

The Lakers’ captain batted .435 and also had an 0.89 ERA to help lead her team to the Division 2 South final. A four-year honor roll student at Apponequet, she will attend Assumption College to study law and criminal science.
Catcher, Sr.

Jessica Malatzky, Malden

She was one of the best hitters in EMass this year (.653 average) and the GBL MVP, but Malatzky’s greatest accomplishment may be that she threw out 90 percent of the runners that attempted to steal on her. She will attend Westfield State.
Shortstop, Sr.

Jessi McCarthy, Methuen

The Merrimack Valley Conference Player of the Year (.532, 4 HRs, 16 RBIs) had a hit in 21 of 23 games this season and scored in 16 of them. She also scored 31 runs and stole nine bases. She will attend Northern Essex.
Pitcher, Sr.

Kyla Puccini, Dighton-Rehoboth

Puccini and Dighton-Rehoboth both had a spectacular spring. Puccini went 15-4 with a 2.30 ERA, notching 132 strikeouts in 129 innings. D-R ended the season 19-4. Puccini, who also played volleyball, will attend Southern New Hampshire.

Kiki Saveriano, Lexington

With a no-hitter in the state title game, Saveriano put the exclamation point on a brilliant season. She had 200 strikeouts and a 0.74 ERA and was named the Middlesex League MVP. She also hit .484 with 5 doubles, 5 triples, 6 homers, and 28 RBIs.
