Coaches of the Year

division 1

Andy Crane, Latin Academy

In his first season as Dragons coach Crane finished 15-6, with his 11-1 mark in the Greater Boston League leading the league. His work at Latin Academy is part of a school-wide effort to help the sport grow throughout Boston.
division 2

Ron Bartels, Hingham

The 17-year coach brought his Harbormen within one match of a Division 2 state title. His squad didn’t lose a set in winning the South sectional crown and finished 22-2. Bartels takes an interest in traveling, art, and sports.
division 3

Ned Fennessy, Martha's Vineyard

Originally awarded the job after being the only applicant for the position, Fennessy has built a strong program. In his 19 seasons, his club has qualified for the state tournament 15 times. His 15-5 finish this season increased his win total to 200.

Singles All-Scholastics

sophomore

Christian Boulanger, Winchester

In his first season at first singles, he compiled a 15-4 record and clinched the Division 2 state title in a three-set duel with Hingham’s Alex Chin. The high honors student has a combined 31-6 record in two seasons, having played third singles as a freshman.

Eric Fandel, Framingham

The Flyers star had an undefeated regular season, reaching the South sectional singles final. Fandel also has USTA experience. Off the court, Fandel won the school’s 2009 Excellence in Mathematics Award. He will attend the University of Michigan.

Richie Litterst, Falmouth

The four-time Globe All-Scholastic compiled a 70-1 career record and went 16-0 this season for the Clippers. Falmouth finished 16-3 this spring. The National Honor Society member will play tennis at Hendrix College in Arkansas.

Chris Nelson, Scituate

Nelson capped his career by going 16-0 in the regular season. For three years, he was Scituate’s first singles player, earning All-Patriot League honors each season. Nelson, also a Patriot League All-Star in soccer, will attend Quinnipiac University.
freshman

Aaron Revzin, Needham

The young Revzin impressed his competition, winning the South sectional individual title and reaching the sectional team semifinals. He enjoys all racket sports, table tennis, and pool. The high honors student also has USTA experience.
sophomore

Will Spector, Weston

The 5-foot-9-inch sophomore came up big when needed, finishing 8-2 and reaching the North sectional singles final — a grueling three-set loss. The two-time Dual County League All-Star is also an avid drummer and snowboarder.
sophomore

Alex Steinroeder, Concord-Carlisle

He’s young, but his list of accolades is growing faster than his 6-foot-1-inch frame. He won the state singles championship in straight sets, was undefeated in team match play, and won team state championships in his two varsity seasons.
senior

Ravy Uong, Lowell

The Merrimack Valley player of the year has an impressive tennis résumé that includes winning several USTA doubles titles and competing for the Cambodian national team at the Southeast Asian Games. The high honors student will attend Wesleyan.

Doubles All-Scholastics

Julian Albert, Newton South

As captain, four-year varsity player, and first-team Old Colony League All-Star, Albert has excelled. Also a student of the game, he enjoys teaching tennis to others. Involved with the Junior Achievement program, Albert is bound for Bentley.

Hayden Callahan, Concord-Carlisle

After a 22-1 season, Callahan will lose his partner George King to graduation. Callahan has three years of varsity experience and was a Dual County League All-Star. The threeyear honor roll student also enjoys surfing and golf.
senior

Zachary Cecere, Wellesley

Along with Alex Robertson, he didn’t drop a match all season until losing to teammates and first doubles pairing of Mitchell Henry and Gordon Peters. The National Honor Society student and special merit scholar will attend Colby College.

Mitchell Henry, Wellesley

Henry capped his career in style, winning the state doubles championship with Gordon Peters after having reached the final in 2008. The four-year varsity player will enroll at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., in the fall.
sophomore

Aaron Belowich, Newton South

The honor roll student partnered with Julian Albert to form a fearsome first doubles duo, earning first-team Dual County League All-Star honors and reaching the North sectional individual final. Belowich is sports editor of the school paper.
senior

George King, Concord-Carlisle

The three-time Dual County League All-Star and two-time Globe All- Scholastic went to the state doubles final with Hayden Callahan and finished 22-1. Also a table tennis player, King is heading for Connecticut College in the fall.
sophomore

Alex Robertson, Wellesley

Robertson made the transition to second doubles from third singles this season and, along with Zachary Cecere, helped lead Wellesley to the state semifinals. An honor roll student, Robertson also skis and plays soccer for the Raiders.
junior

Gordon Peters, Wellesley

Peters completed an undefeated season at first doubles with Mitchell Henry in his second varsity season. An honor roll student and fan of Ultimate Frisbee, Peters also participates in the Jazz choir, earning 2009 all-state chorus honors.
