Coaches of the Year

division 1

Alan Brazier, Wellesley

The Westwood High School alum led Wellesley to Bay State and South sectional titles and advanced to Division 1 state final. Brazier has 168 career wins and one state title under his belt — with the Concord-Carlisle boys’ team in 2001.
division 2

John Harrison, Winchester

In his first season as head coach, Harrison helped guide the Sachems to their third consecutive Division 2 state championship. Before coming to Winchester, he served as the assistant girls coach at Reading last year. Harrison teaches math at Reading.
division 3

Karen Raymond, Dover-Sherborn

The Raiders and Raymond made it a clean sweep this spring, winning Tri-Valley, South sectional, and state championships. The Raiders went 21-0 after a 19-2 season in ’08, earning the school’s first state title in any sport since 1994.

Singles All-Scholastics

freshman

Marie Fleming, Brookline

The freshman went 15-1 in her first high school season and advanced to the Division 1 South sectional individual final. A basketball and soccer player for the Warriors, the 5-foot-6- inch Fleming is also an honors student.
senior

Lauren Hollender, Newton South

The four-time Dual County League All-Star couldn’t capture her fourth North sectional singles title, but she did make it to the final to cap an outstanding high school career. Also a soccer captain and DCL All-Star, Hollender will attend Tufts.
senior

Sandra Hyams, Needham

Captain and second singles standout, Hyams went undefeated this season. The four-year varsity player was an honor roll student every term at Needham. She enjoys teaching tennis in the summer and will attend the University of Pennsylvania.
sophomore

Ariana Launie, Milton

The two-time All-Scholastic and Bay State League All-Star made it to the South sectional singles final. She finished 21-3 this season, giving her a career record of 44-4. When not playing, she enjoys teaching tennis to children.
sophomore

Amy Li, Acton-Boxboro

The USTA-ranked sophomore only lost one regular-season match and reached the North sectional individual semifinals. A two-time All-Scholastic and Dual County League All- Star, Li ranks in the top 2 percent of her class.
senior

Sarah O'Neil, Lynnfield

O’Neil had a storybook ending to her high school career, going undefeated en route to winning the Division 3 North sectional team title and winning the state individual title. She won Cape Ann League player of the year honors for the second time.
freshman

Alana Prinos, Foxboro

The Hockomock League MVP won the South sectonal No. 1 singles title after going 18-0 in regular-season competition. The captain-to-be has played in USTA competition since she was 10 and is ranked 22d in New Enghland.
sophomore

Abigail Shewalter, Winchester

Shewalter was dominant in the Division 2 state team final against Hingham, winning her first singles match, 6-0, 6-0, to help secure the championship. The honors student is the USTA’s No. 1-ranked 16-and-under player in New England.

Doubles All-Scholastics

Dana Holt, Newton South

Holt was named Most Improved Player and earned first-team Dual County League All-Star honors with her first doubles partner Jillian Schwartz, compiling an 18-4 record. The honor roll student is headed for Michigan State in the fall.
junior

Eileen Liu, Westford Academy

Along with first doubles partner Jocelyn Lund-Wlide, Liu won the North sectional and state championships, finishing with a 26-1 record. The first-team Dual County League All-Star has also earned several academic excellence awards at Westford.
senior

Manon Ironside, Wellesley

Along with Caroline Taylor, she won the South sectional first doubles title and advanced to the state final. The tri-captain went 17-0 during the regular season. Ironside, who has an interest in languages, will play tennis at Eckerd College.
junior

Jane Marchetti, Wellesley

Marchetti and her doubles partner, Amanda von Taube, and the Wellesley team were undefeated before running into Algonquin in the Division 1 state finals. The honor roll student has played all three years for the Raiders.
senior

Jillian Schwartz, Newton South

The honor roll student capped her career with an 18-4 season with first doubles partner Dana Holt and helped lead the Lions to the Dual County League title. The first-team DCL All-Star and captain also won the team leadership award.
junior

Jocelyn Lund-Wilde, Westford Academy

Also a varsity soccer player, Lund- Wilde has made her stamp on the tennis court. She went undefeated with first doubles partner Eileen Liu as a sophomore. In addition to academic achievements, the honor role student enjoys teaching tennis.

Caroline Taylor, Wellesley

Taylor joined with Manon Ironside to make it to the final of the state individual tournament. With Taylor in the lineup, Wellesley won the Division 1 South title and advanced to the Division 1 final. The junior is a member of the National Honor Society.

Amanda von Taube, Wellesley

Von Taube made it to the South sectional doubles final with Jane Marchetti before losing to Raiders teammates Caroline Taylor and Manon Ironside. The National Honor Society member was undefeated in the regular season.
