How winners were selected
The 23d annual Boston Globe/Richard Phelps Scholar-Athletes were chosen by Globe Sports Editor Joe Sullivan, Boston- .com high school editor Chris Forsberg, Bob Holmes, Evan MacDonald, Amara Grautski, and Peter Martin of the Globes high school sports staff, and David Manzo, the president and executive director of the Cotting School in Lexington. Applications were sent to principals across the state in April and a month later, the Globe had the difficult task of selecting one boy and one girls from six MIAA districts plus Boston. East of the nominees listed should be proud to be slected by his or her school as its top male or female student-athlete. From Annie Abber to James Queeney, the Scholar-Athletes represent the best in high school sports. Text by Evan MacDonald. Photos by Matthew Lee.
