Players of the Year

senior / pitcher
Kiki Saveriano, Lexington
Saveriano won her second Middlesex
League MVP award and led the Minutemen
to back-to-back state titles,
posting a 0.30 ERA with 265 strikeouts
this season. The UConn-bound
ace finished with a career ERA of
0.51 and 840 strikeouts.

senior / pitcher
Nicole D'Argento, Ashland
The Boston College-bound DArgento
finished her career 62-0 (three perfect
games, 14 no-hitters) with a 0.24
ERA and 819 strikeouts. She also led
the state Division 2 champion Clockers
(26-0) with a .703 average, 13
home runs, and 48 RBIs.

junior / catcher
Erin McAndrews, St. Mary's
The four-time Catholic Central All-
Star catcher and this seasons MVP
batted .563 for the Division 3 state
champions, with 5 home runs and 40
RBIs. The honor roll student also
played for the state Division 1 champion
ice hockey team.
Coaches of the Year

division 1
Kathy Smelstor, Norwood
Despite graduating last years ace
pitcher, the Bay State League coach of
the year led the Mustangs to a 20-2
record, the Herget Division title, and
a trip to the South sectional final. The
Norwood High graduate has coached
varsity softball for 17 years.

division 2
Leo DiRocco, Tewksbury
The Dracut High and Merrimack
College graduate has coached softball
for 21 years, and this season led the
Redmen to a 19-4 finish, falling to
Concord-Carlisle in the North sectional
final. DiRoccos career coaching
record is 276-130.

division 3
Frank Gracia, Greater New Bedford
Although Gracia has coached softball
in various capacities for 22 years, this
is the first time he has led the Bears
to a state vocational championship.
Greater New Bedfords record this
season, 15-9, is also the best in school
history.
All-Scholastics

senior / shortstop
Emily Beinecke, Concord-Carlisle
The Tufts-bound Beinecke batted
.551 with a .607 on-base percentage
and drove in 24 runs for the Patriots
during the regular season. The Dual
County League co-MVP also plays for
the Concord Raiders during the
summer.

senior / pitcher, outfielder
Sarra Bergeron, Methuen
The Merrimack Valley Conference
Division 1 player of the year notched
a 1.15 ERA and fanned 174 batters
while walking 28 in 128 innings. She
finished her career with a 1.87 ERA
and 357 strikeouts, going 29-12 her
final two seasons.

senior / pitcher
Liz DiMascio, Braintree
The Wamps star hurler notched 16
shutouts, 268 strikeouts, and a 0.27
ERA for the Division 1 South sectional
champs. The three-time Bay State
League All-Star and two-time MVP
also graduates as valedictorian and
will head to Brown next fall.

senior / catcher
Jessica Furtado, Taunton
The Tigers catcher only had one error
and notched a .425 batting average
with 9 doubles, 2 home runs, and 23
RBIs this season. Furtado, who also
played with the R.I. Thunder and
Taunton Dynamites, will attend
Franklin Pierce in the fall.

junior / first base
Georgia Guttadauro, Concord-Carlisle
The Dual County League co-MVP had
a career-best .540 average this season
while driving in 29 runs for the Patriots.
Guttadauro, who is also captain
of the field hockey team, hopes to
play softball at a business or engineering
college.

junior / pitcher
Jennifer Lundstrom, Dighton-Rehoboth
With nine shutouts, Lundstrom
helped lead the Falcons to a 20-3
record and the Division 1 South
sectional semifinals. The junior ace,
who also participates in track, tallied
138 strikeouts in 142 innings and
finished with a 1.14 ERA.

senior / center field
Katie Mason, Coyle & Cassidy
Mason batted .434 during the regular
season, with 6 home runs, 25 RBIs,
and 23 runs for the Eastern Athletic
Conference champions and Division
2 South finalists. The honor roll
student, who also plays basketball,
will head to St. Johns in the fall.

junior / pitcher, utility
Lauren Murphy, Acton-Boxboro
This year Murphy, who has led the
team in home runs for three seasons,
set a school record by belting 13. The
offensive powerhouse (.574 average,
54 RBIs) had three multi-home run
games and two grand slams for the
Colonials.

junior / pitcher
Kelly Naegelin, Cohasset
The star hurler for this seasons Division
3 South sectional champion
tallied 256 strikeouts, giving her 568
for her career. She went 19-3 with a
0.89 ERA this season while batting
.471 and driving in 15 runs for the
Skippers.

senior / pitcher
Julie Plante, Case
The team MVP and captain, who led
the South Coast Conference in batting
in 2007 and 2008, finished this
season with a .531 average for the
Cardinals. The three-time All-Scholastic
will attend Dominican College
on a softball scholarship in the fall.

junior / pitcher
Maggie Quealy, King Philip
The Hockomock League MVP helped
lead the Warriors to a 21-1 season,
finishing with a 0.94 ERA and 111
strikeouts, while only walking 13.
Quealy, who threw a perfect game
and two no-hitters, also batted .314
with three home runs.

junior / third base
Lindsey Tomasz, Newburyport
The three-time Cape Ann League
All-Star and this seasons league
Division 1 player of the year finished
with a .667 average, 22 RBIs, and 28
runs. Tomasz was also an extra-base
machine, belting eight home runs,
seven doubles, and five triples.
