Player of the Year

senior / middle hitter

Will Jenkinson, Lincoln-Sudbury

Jenkinson helped lead the Warriors to the state championship this season, finishing with 127 kills, good for a 45 percent kill rate. A diver on the swim team for the first time this season, he placed eighth in the state. He will attend Mass. Maritime.

Coach of the Year

Todd Elwell, Newton South

Elwell led a Newton South team that had only two returning players to the Lions’ first South sectional title and an 18-4 record. He is in his fourth year at the helm after 20 years as a track and field coach. He is 36-7 the past two seasons.

All-Scholastics

Stephen Brown, Natick

Brown, a two-time Bay State League All-Star, finished with 239 kills, 33 blocks, and 29 aces this season, giving him 549 kills, 107 blocks, and 91 aces in his career. A captain of the soccer team, he also played for the Beantown Junior Olympic squad.
senior / setter

Jamison Chue, Newton South

Chue was captain of a team that won the South sectional title for the first time in school history, and racked up more than 1,000 career assists. The Rivier College-bound senior also plays basketball and is a member of the Beantown Black Volleyball Club.

Leonardo Chang-Bazzoli, Brookline

Chang-Bazzoli was a Bay State All- Star, averaging 10 assists per game. Brookline went 16-5 and earned a spot in the South sectional final after winning the South title a year ago. Chang-Bazzoli will enroll at Northeastern in the fall.

Elon Fyfield, Cambridge

Fyfield had 268 kills, 37 assists, 19 aces, 127 blocks, and 91 digs this season. He won a silver medal at last year’s Bay State Games, and also was a basketball standout. He will play volleyball at Indiana Univ.-Purdue Univ. Fort Wayne next year.

Patrick Heffernan, St. John's Prep

Heffernan helped the Eagles reach the state final a year after winning the title. He was an All-Merrimack Valley Conference performer with 225 kills and 64 blocks, and he totaled 426 kills and 130 blocks in his career. He will attend Holy Cross.
senior / outside hitter

Tim Jarrett, Lincoln-Sudbury

Jarrett won a state title with the Warriors, contributing 85 kills this year. He also had 53 kills last year and is a member of the Beantown Junior Olympic Volleyball team. He will enroll in the pre-med program next year at Connecticut College.

Travis Kellegrew, Chelmsford

Kellegrew was named player of the year in the Merrimack Valley Conference Division 1 this season, racking up 193 kills, 27 blocks, 42 aces, and 274 digs. He was also an all-conference player in golf, which he will play next year at UMass-Lowell.

Jonathan Lee, Newton North

Lee was a Bay State League All-Star, racking up 326 kills, 85 blocks, and an 87 percent kill rate. He won a silver medal at last year’s Bay State Games and participated in the Junior Olympic Nationals in 2007 and 2008. He will attend Boston College.
junior / middle blocker

Andrew Lutz, St. John's Prep

Lutz won a state title with the Eagles in 2008 and led them to the final this season. He had 333 kills and 100 blocks in earning All-Merrimack Valley Conference honors this season. Lutz also plays for the Beantown Volleyball Club.
junior / setter

Nick Martino, Natick

Martino was named team MVP, finishing with 601 assists, 30 aces, and 50 kills this season. The Beantown Junior Olympic team member has 1,301 career assists for Natick. A National Honor Society member, he is also a soccer team captain.
senior / outside hitter

Nathan Perry, New Bedford

Perry became the first player in New Bedford history to record more than 300 kills in a season, finishing with 302, to go along with 43 aces and 125 digs. In his two varsity seasons he had 451 kills. He also participated in the 2008 Junior Olympics.

Nadav Swarttz, Newton South

Swarttz captained the South sectional title team and racked up more than 300 kills to lead the Lions to a schoolbest 18-4 record. He participated in the Bay State Games last year and also enjoys basketball. He will attend Maryland in the fall.

Ken Tan, Quincy

Tan was a three-time South Alliance All-Star and led the Presidents to league championships in 2007 and 2008. He had 454 assists this season, and totaled 2,004 during his career. He will attend the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology.
senior / middle hitter

Matthew Washburn, Andover

Washburn earned player of the year honors in the Merrimack Valley Conference Division 2, racking up more than 300 kills. He also participated in the 2008 Junior Olympics in Salt Lake City. He will attend Rhode Island.

Andrew Yeung, Brookline

The Warriors captain averaged 10 digs and one ace per game this season and was first-team All-Bay State League. The National Honor Society member and Carnegie Mellon-bound senior also won the Neil Harrington Award.
senior / outside hitter

Simon Yeung, North Quincy

Yeung, the South Alliance player of the year, averaged 18 kills per game in helping lead the Red Raiders to a 12-6 finish. He also wrestled and had a 4.2 GPA in the classroom. He will study civil engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
