Girls' hockey
Super Team
Christina Sweeney, Dedham
![]() |
If Dedham cannot find its Division 1 championship trophy, the first place the Marauders should look is Sweeney's arms. The three-time Super team member captured her Division 1 title this season by compiling a 1.33 GAA in the tournament, including a 2-1 win over defending champion and offensive powerhouse Woburn in the championship game, and was holding the trophy tight after the game. She was named Bay State Conference outstanding goalie of the year, Bay State MVP, Bay State first team all-star, and team MVP. For her career, which cocoach Don Parr described as ``five years of happiness,'' Sweeney compiled a 94-12-6 record, including 47 shutouts and two Division 2 state titles. Sweeney is a seashell collector who enjoys country music.
Lindsey Harrington, Westford
![]() |
Harrington is one of those players for whom statistics do not tell the whole story. The senior forward racked up 102 goals and 56 assists in her career, including 43 goals and 21 assists this season. But what she did for her team cannot be measured with numbers alone. Harrington, a three-year captain, led the Grey Ghosts to two straight Division 2 championship games, including a win in 2004. Harrington is a three-time Eastern Mass. All-Star and an honor roll student. The well-rounded athlete is the captain of the field hockey and softball teams and is headed to Amherst College in the fall. She also competes in the Bay State Games and with Assabet Valley.
Kara Kelley, Dedham
![]() |
Kelley has been the offensive force driving Dedham to the Division 1 title. Still only a junior, Kelley is Dedham's all-time leading scorer with 159 points, including 40 goals and 42 assists this season. She was named team MVP. Kelley also had an assist on the winning goal, scored by her sister, Kathy, in the Division 1 title game. The Marauders' assistant captain was named a first team Bay State Conference All-Star, helping Dedham capture the Bay State Herget crown. Kelley is also a force in the classroom, where she maintains high honor roll grades and is ranked 11th in her class. She plays field hockey and softball and currently has her sights set on Harvard, Dartmouth, and Princeton. She enjoys listening to country music.
Colleen Martin, Woburn
![]() |
Martin is a coach's dream come true: a workhorse defenseman with scoring potential. Martin's defensive play has been a big part of Woburn's continued sucess, as the junior plays hard every minute of every game. She has scored 36 goals in her career and added 83 assists. She has been named all-league four times and is a two-time Middlesex League MVP. She is also a three-time Globe All-Scholastic, making her second appearance on the Super Team. Martin is the captain of the soccer team, which she has been a member of since her freshman year. She also competes in the Bay State Games and with the South Coast Sharks.
Arianna Rigano, Austin Prep
![]() |
Rigano jumped to the top of the Catholic Central League scoring early in the season and never let go. The junior captain finished the season with 45 goals and 39 assists (84 points) and was named Catholic Central League MVP. Rigano led the Cougars to a 15-3-2 record and the No. 4 seed in the Division 1 tournament. She has piled up 172 career points and is an honor roll student. In the spring, Rigano plays roller hockey and has competed in the Bay State Games and Hockey Night in Boston.
Colleen Sanborn, Woburn
![]() |
Sanborn is, hands down, one of the best players in the state, her accomplishments made more impressive because for the last month and a half, she couldn't put her hand down. Sanborn broke her wrist in early February and still finished the season with 75 points, including her 200th career goal, leading the Tanners to the Division 1 finals. The accolades piled up throughout her career, as this year she was named Hockey Night in Boston Division 1 Player of the Year, Middlesex League MVP, team MVP, league all-star, and all-league. Sanborn finished her career as the all-time leading scorer in Woburn history, boys or girls, with 206 goals and 78 assists. The three-time All-Scholastic is an honor roll student and the catcher on the softball team. She also plays with the South Coast Sharks.
The All-Scholastics
Kasey Cedorchuk, Mt. St. Joseph
![]() |
The Catholic Conference scoring champion is one of the state's most prolific goal scorers and playmakers, as she tallied 49 goals and added 43 assists this season. Cedorchuk scored her 100th goal in the last regular-season game against Milton before helping to lead the Eagles on a run to the Division 2 state semifinals, racking up five goals and four assists in three tournament games. Cedorhuk was named MVP of the Catholic Conference and is also an all-star on the softball team. She hopes to play Division 1 hockey in the future.
Jennifer Corcoran, Wilmington
![]() |
Corcoran must enjoy cold weather. Besides being a four-year workhorse on the Wildcats' blueline, she enjoys snowboarding. On the ice, she is a four-time North Cape League All-Star and is making her first appearance on the All-Scholastic team. Corcoran has been a member of two North Cape League champion teams, this year's team and the 2004 squad. A National Honor Society student, she works as a manager for the field hockey team and hopes to play hockey in college.
Catherine Foley, Boston Latin
![]() |
South Boston is one of those places where kids seem to be born with hockey stick in hand. Foley, a Southie native, has been a constant for the Wolfpack for six years, and was named Dual-Metro All-Star four times. This season she finished with 47 points, bringing her career totals to 76 goals and 106 assists for 182 points. The senior cocaptain, who has participated at the Bay State Games, plans to attend BU in the fall for the Terriers' first season of Division 1 women's hockey. Foley is a three-time All-Scholastic and was a member of Latin's Division 1 state championship team in 2002. She also works as a counselor at O'Sullivan Hockey Academy in Dorchester.
Abby Gauthier, St. Mary's
![]() |
On Gauthier's information sheet, she lists herself as a freshman, but her stats seem to suggest otherwise. Gauthier, who has been playing for the Spartans since the seventh grade, already has 87 goals and 66 assists and has led the team in scoring three times. In the seventh grade she scored 20 goals and added 12 assists to help the Spartans qualify for the state tournament in their first year as a varsity program. This year she led the team in scoring with 61 points. "Playing hockey at St. Mary's has been a great experience," wrote Gauthier. "I've been here for three years and have learned so much from Coach Langlais and his coaching staff. Our team played great this season and through states because we played as a team."
Lydia Gibson, Wellesley
![]() |
Gibson played a big part in Wellesley's 18-4 record and quarterfinal appearance in the Division 2 tournament. The junior has led the team in scoring each of her three seasons, during which the Raiders have made two appearances in the Division 2 final. Gibson finished the regular season second in the Bay State Conference in scoring and was named a Bay State Conference first team all-star for the third straight season. Gibson has been named captain of the hockey team for next season. The honor roll student also plays on the field hockey team, for which she is also captain-elect.
Lindsey Holland, Needham
![]() |
It's hard to believe that Holland is only a junior, considering how much she has already accomplished. The flexible netminder uses quick reflexes and a sprawling butterfly technique. She was named a Bay State Conference All-Star and All-Scholastic for the third time. Holland posted a 1.26 goals against average this season, including a 1.33 in the tournament. She led the Rockets to the quarterfinals before losing in overtime to eventual state champion Dedham. The honor roll student also is a two-time Bay State Conference soccer All-Star.
Hannah Jackson, Brookline
![]() |
Not known for their scoring punch, the Warriors finished the season 13-8-2, including a surprising run to the state semifinals, in large part because of their defense. Jackson is the leader on the blue line, willing to sacrifice her body to block a shot and then turn around and carry the puck up ice to set up the offense. Jackson, a strong skater with excellent stickhandling ability, finished with 30 goals and 29 assists and was named first team Bay State Conference All-Star for the fourth time. Jackson also plays lacrosse for the Warriors and participates in the Bay State Games. The National Honor Society scholar plans to attend Wesleyan and enjoys playing guitar.
Kathy Kelley, Dedham
![]() |
Even if Kelley had done nothing else all season, she would likely be All-Scholastic for the game she had against Woburn in the Division 1 state final. Kelley played the entire game, helping to hold the potent Tanners offense to one goal, and then scored the winner with 22.9 seconds left to give the Marauders their first MIAA Division 1 championship. As it is, the junior was one of the most consistent players on the Marauder defense and won the team's Most Improved Player Award. She finished the season with 36 goals and 30 assists and was named Bay State Conference first team All-Star. The high honor roll student is also the captain of the field hockey team that earned a spot in the Division 2 South final.
Maria Nasta, Andover
![]() |
Nasta, a junior forward and a team cocaptain this season, finished with 43 goals and 21 assists and was at or near the top of the Metro North scoring leaders all season. For her career, Nasta has 92 goals and 55 assists, good for 147 points and has been named the team MVP each of the last two seasons. Nasta does not take a season off as she also plays for the varsity soccer and softball teams. The honor roll student has competed in the Hockey Night in Boston tournament and in the Northeast Women's Hockey League.
Marissa Simmons, Brookline
![]() |
Only a sophomore, Simmons was described by one Bay State Conference coach as "the best player in our league." The first team Bay State Conference All-Star compiled 61 points on 32 goals and 29 assists to bring her career points total to 107 in two years. Simmons was also named Bay State All-Star in her freshman year and attended the US player development camp in Lake Placid. She has competed in the Hockey Night in Boston tournament and plays varsity lacrosse and soccer. She has participated in the Olympic Development Program for soccer.
Coaches
Don Parr, Dedham
![]() |
Parr is an anomaly. Never before has a coach been a two-time coach of the year yet never been coach of the year. Because of his policy of having cocoaches instead of assistants, Parr shared the Division 2 honor in 2001 and shares the Division 1 honor this season with cocoach Joey Huff. The elder statesman of the coaching team, Parr has compiled a 94-12-6 record in his five years at the helm of the Dedham girls' hockey team. Included in that record are two Division 2 state titles. Parr added a Division 1 championship this season when the Marauders wrestled the crown from defending champion Woburn, 2-1. "No one expected us to go this far," said Parr. "It is a credit to our girls. They worked hard, they came together, and they played their hearts out." Parr is also a Dedham High graduate (Class of 1975).
Joey Huff, Dedham
![]() |
Perhaps Huff is some sort of good luck charm for the Marauders. In his first season as cocoach, Dedham captured its first Division 1 title in its third try by beating defending champion Woburn, 2-1. Tha Marauders finished the season with a 20-1-1 record, their only loss a regular-season contest with Woburn. Huff has championship experience, having won an NCAA Division 2 national championship while playing hockey at St. Michael's College. "This team was a family," said Huff of the Bay State Herget champions. "They came to play every night. Everyone thought this was going to be a rebuilding year, but we proved a lot of people wrong. This team was all heart." Huff, a graduate of Mount Hermon School, also coaches boys' lacrosse and enjoys country music, weightlifting, fishing, and travel.
Todd Langlais, St. Mary's
![]() |
How's this for a progression: Four years ago the Spartans were a club team; in 2003 they went 5-8-3; 13-5 in 2004; and this season Langlais led his squad to a 21-1-2 record and a Division 2 state championship. "This year's team was extremely hard-working with a family atmosphere," said Langlais. "It was a joy to coach the past three and a half months. As coaches, we found our young team always looking to play better every day." The Spartans captured the crown with a convincing 7-1 win over defending champion Westford. For his efforts, Langlais was also named Hockey Night in Boston Division 2 Coach of the Year. Langlais is a former Spartan, having graduated from St. Mary's in 1990 and was a member of the 1989 state soccer co-champions. Langlais attended Champlain College in Burlington, Vt.
