Skiing
Boys' Team
Matt Briggs, Concord-Carlisle
 NORDIC |
One of five All-Scholastic skiers from Concord-Carlisle, Briggs has been skiing since his freshman year at C-C, and he capped his senior season by winning the Mass Bay West League championship. A cocaptain at Concord-Carlisle, Briggs also finished second in the State Freestyle Championships. The Cambridge Sports Union Ski Club member finished fourth in the Massachusetts Classic Invitational. A cross-country runner in the fall with two varsity letters and a track team member with two varsity letters in the spring, Briggs will ski for Colby College. |

Ross Brockman, Lincoln-Sudbury
 ALPINE |
Brockman has been a Dual County League All-Star in each of his three years at Lincoln-Sudbury, and this season the junior won the Mass Bay West Omega Division championship, edging fellow All-Scholastic Andrew Hawes. As a key member of the Lincoln-Sudbury state Alpine championship team last year, Brockman's sixth-place showing in the slalom at states (32.07) has set hopes high for his senior season. He has skied in the Junior Olympics, and is an honor roll student and also plays varsity soccer. He is a member of the Franconia Ski Club and plans to ski in college. |

Ben Goldenberg, Newton North
 NORDIC |
Goldenberg is definitely a man for all seasons. No stranger to championship competition, Goldenberg has taken part in state title runs with the Newton North cross-country (2004) and tennis (2001) teams. This year, he added a first-place finish in the Mass Bay East Nordic League to that list, while also finishing 12th at the MIAA state championships at the Notchview Touring Center. Goldenberg was seventh in the state his junior year. A member of the Cambridge Sports Union Skiing Club, Goldenberg plans to attend Colby College next year. He lists biking and outdoor activities among his interests. |

Andrew Hawes, Concord-Carlisle
 ALPINE |
Hawes, a junior, was a Dual County League All-Star this season, and finished as one of the top skiers in the competitive Mass Bay West Omega Division. A member of the Waterville Valley ski team for the past two years, Hawes also finished second in the slalom at the MIAA state championships and qualified for the J1 and J2 Eastern championships. Hawes is an honor student at Concord-Carlisle and also plays varsity baseball and golf. He hopes to continue golfing and skiing in college, and lists Colby as a potential destination. His twin sister, Ashley Hawes, is the girls' Skier of the Year. |

Tim McCabe, Wellesley
 ALPINE |
A captain at Wellesley, McCabe won the last four races of the season to earn recognition as the May Bay Ski League East's downhill champion. The postseason was even better as the senior led the Raiders to the MIAA state title at Berkshire East by placing fifth in the state slalom (31.65) and ninth in the giant slalom (44.86). McCabe has received the Bay State's Ski Meister Award the past three years and is an honor roll student. McCabe is not alone in earning All-Scholastic honors; his sister, Elizabeth, earned All-Scholastic honors at Wellesley in 2000. A member of the Mount Washington Valley ski team, he also captains the golf team at Wellesley. He is undecided about his college plans. |

John Roche, BC High
 ALPINE |
Roche, a 5-foot-8-inch, 170-pound senior, capped his career at BC High in style. He took home the Ski East League championship, then followed with an impressive performance at states, finishing fourth in the slalom (31.61) and fifth in giant slalom (44.49). An honor roll student, Roche also qualified for the J1 and J2 championships at Okemo. An avid outdoorsman, Roche lists fishing, boating, and golfing among his interests. The senior is undecided about his college plans, but intends to continue skiing. He is also a member at Waterville Valley. |

Jake Segal, Acton-Boxboro
 Skier of the Year |
Segal followed up his 2004 All-Scholastic season by going undefeated in the 2005 regular season, winning the league title, a state title, and being named the Skier of the Year. The Dual County League All-Star won all six meets to claim the Massachusetts Bay Alpha Division championship, then finished first in the giant slalom (43.65) at states at Berkshire East, where his time of 31.29 was also good enough for third in the slalom. Segal has been a DCL All-Star in each of his four years at Acton-Boxboro and has played varsity soccer since his freshman year. A member of the National Honor Society, Segal lists Swarthmore, Harvard, Amherst, Williams, Chicago, and Princeton among his college choices. |

Alex Zahoruiko, North Andover
 ALPINE |
Zahoruiko is making his second appearance on the All-Scholastic team after finishing third in the state in the giant slalom and placing 13th in the slalom to lead North Andover to a third-place finish at the MIAA championships. Last year, Zahoruiko burst onto the scene at the MIAA meet by narrowly missing a double victory (he won the giant slalom and finished second in the slalom), and the two-time North Shore Ski League MVP capitalized on that momentum by winning the NSSL Interscholastic Race. Zahoruiko also plays golf and lacrosse, and lists UMass and St. Michael's as possible college choices. He hopes to continue skiing. |
Girls' Team
Kate Belanger, Chelmsford
 ALPINE |
Consider the 2005 season a return to form for Belanger. After winning the Mass Bay West Ski League Alpha Division as a freshman, the junior slipped to second place last year. This season Belanger cleaned up, winning the Alpha division title again and finishing fourth overall at the MIAA state championships. A third-place finish in the slalom (34.75) and ninth in the giant slalom (47.85) did the trick for Belanger, who is a high honors student at Chelmsford. An all-conference field hockey player for the Lions, Belanger helped lead the Lions to a 10-6-3 mark in the fall and a berth in the Division 1 North tournament. She is also a member of the Waterville Valley ski team. |

Jaime Gullotti, Waltham
 ALPINE |
Gullotti repeated as the Greater Boston League champion this season. A junior, she'll look to make it three in a row next year. She also represented Waltham at the state championships, finishing 15th in both the slalom and giant slalom. Gullotti won the Vermont J3 Shootout in 2003 and attended the Eastern High School Championships last year. An honor roll student, Gullotti plays soccer, softball, and runs track at Waltham. She also volunteers as a youth ski coach in her spare time. |

Ashley Hawes, Concord-Carlisle
ALPINE / SKIER OF THE YEAR |
Hawes dominated the Alpine scene in 2005, winning her league championship as well as the state all-around championship. She nudged out Concord-Carlisle teammate Courtney Nelson for first in the Mass Bay West's Omega Division, then won both the slalom and giant slalom at states as C-C finished second as a team. A junior, Hawes has twice been named a DCL All-Star, and has qualified for the J1 and J2 Eastern Championships for two years. Hawes's twin brother, Andrew, is also an All-Scholastic skier, and the siblings learned to ski before turning 3 years old. Ashley is a high honors student and also plays varsity softball and field hockey for Concord-Carlisle. She is a member at Waterville Valley. |

Amanda Morrissey, Notre Dame (H)
 ALPINE |
Morrissey, a junior, is building something of a one-person dynasty in the Ski East League, which she has won the past two seasons. She has a pair of Ski East All-Star selections to complement her two All-Scholastic nods. Morrissey was an All-Scholastic golfer last spring as she led Notre Dame of Hingham to the state team championship, shooting an 87. She earned Mass Bay North All-Star recognition in golf. This winter, Morrissey finished sixth in the slalom and 11th in the giant slalom at the state meet at Berkshire East after winning all but one of her league races during the regular season. |

Courtney Nelson, Concord-Carlisle
 ALPINE |
This is the second All-Scholastic selection for Nelson, who was also Alpine selection in 2004. She certainly earned it, finishing second in the Mass Bay West's Omega Division and second all-around at the state championships (second in slalom, fourth in giant slalom). A junior, Nelson has been skiing for six years and has been named a DCL All-Star three times. She also captains the Concord-Carlisle field hockey team and plans to continue either skiing or playing field hockey in college. Nelson also races for Waterville Valley. |

Abby Nolan, Duxbury
 ALPINE |
Even in a year when underclassmen are making their mark on the All-Scholastic team, Nolan manages to stand out. A 5-foot-9-inch sophomore, Nolan raced with the poise of a seasoned veteran, winning two races during the Mass Bay East Ski League regular season and finishing eighth in both the slalom and giant slalom at the MIAA state Alpine championships. Nolan was the top female individual finsher at the state meet from Mass Bay East. She can boast wins in the Technica race, the J3 race, and the Sneider Cup. Nolan plays field hockey and golf, and lists photography among her interests. |

Stephanie Pearl, Concord-Carlisle
 NORDIC |
Pearl has just finished her junior season, but her list of skiing accomplishments stacks up with almost anyone. Pearl won four of her five Dual County League meets this year (finishing second in the other), and has qualified for the Eastern High School Championships in each of the last two years. In addition to skiing, Pearl has played varsity soccer and run track for Concord-Carlisle since her freshman year. She has been named a DCL All-Star in skiing and track, and owns the school record in the mile. She has maintained a GPA of 3.97 and is a member of the Cambridge Sports Union. |
