Wrestling
Wrestlers of the year
Brian Sheehan, Lowell
![]() |
Sheehan will go down as one of the greatest wrestlers in state history at any weight. He is one of only a handful of grapplers who have won back to back New England championships, not to mention the four consecutive Division 1 state championships and three All-State titles, including this years at 152. Sheehan certainly has the pedigree: hes the younger brother of Patrick Sheehan, who was an All-Scholastic, Massachusetts and New England champion in 2003. Sheehan also played two years of varsity football for Lowell. The senior is mulling college opportunities at North Carolina, Old Dominion and Edinboro.
Bob Murray, Central Catholic
![]() |
Murray was in magnificent form this season. He went 40-0 and never was taken down by an opponent en route to winning both the Division 2 and All-State championships. He missed out on the New Englands due to a concussion, but was probably better off because that trophy case has to be full by now. His career winning percentage is .957 (156-7) and he has two All-State titles and three Division 3 state championships to his credit, despite losing the latter half of his sophomore season to mononucleosis. He captained the football team and was a Merrimack Valley Conference All-Star. The Salem, N.H.-native enjoys fishing and lifting and will attend Plymouth St. or Westfield St.
Nick Avery, Foxboro

Avery finished his senior season on a tear. He completed a treble in the 171-pound weight class, winning the Division 3, All-State and New England titles. You can also add to those championships his Hockomock and sectional first-place finishes and his 40-1 record this season. Averys success has been a progression. As a sophomore, he won a sectional championship and was a state finalist. In his junior season, he again won a sectional championship and finished sixth at the All-States and fourth at the New Englands. Avery, who also played football at Foxboro, will attend either Purdue or Edinboro.

The All-Scholastics
Kenny Anderson, Billerica
![]() |
Who says you need experience to win a championship? Anderson, a sophomore, certainly didnt care for conventional wisdom when he won the Division 1 North sectional final and then went on to beat Springfield Catholics Jose Cabrera in the Division 1 state final. Anderson wont have to worry about complacency after his 43-3 season, either: he has All-State and New England runner-up finishes to motivate him for more glory next season. In the offseason, Anderson practices at the Doughboy Wrestling Club and the HI-C Wrestling Club. He enjoys playing wiffle ball and fishing in his spare time.

The 5-foot 10-inch senior has compiled an 81-15 record for his career and finished fourth in the All-State tournament last season after taking third in the sectionals as a sophomore.
