Julian Colarusso, Catholic Memorial

A driving force in the Knights’ Division 2 state title run, the 6-foot-4- inch Colarusso averaged a doubledouble (15.2 points, 10 rebounds) in the tournament. He’s shifting his focus to the gridiron, going to UMass on a football scholarship.

Gerard Coleman, West Roxbury

Coleman averaged 27 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game this season for the Raiders. He reached the 1,000-point milestone during the Boston City championships, and has another year at West Roxbury to build up his numbers.

Adrian Gonzalez, Central Catholic

The co-MVP of the Merrimack Valley Conference capped his career with a sterling 28-point effort in the Raiders’ Division 1 title win over St. John’s of Shrewsbury. Gonzalez, who finished with 1,095 points, takes his game to Bentley next season.

Jake O'Brien, BC High

The Boston University-bound star averaged 18 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game for the Eagles, who won the Division 1 South title. The team captain also earned Catholic Conference MVP honors and his third league All-Star berth.

Akeem Williams, Avon

Averaging 32.5 points per game, Williams successfully defended his state scoring title and led the Panthers to the Division 4 South championship. He also broke Avon’s singlegame record with a 56-point outburst against South Shore in January.

Coaches of the Year

division 1

Ricky Nault, Central Catholic

Nault’s second season on the job resulted in a 25-2 record and Division 1 state championship, the school’s first since 1999. He said his team ‘‘overcame a great deal of adversity to achieve the ultimate goal.’’ Nault is 44-8 at the helm of his alma mater.
Division 2

Steve Gaspar, Dartmouth

The 22-year coaching veteran led the Indians to a 19-5 record and an appearance in the Division 2 South final. Summing up his team’s campaign, Gaspar said that he was ‘‘blessed with a great coaching staff and great athletes.’’
Division 3

Matt Poirier, Scituate

The 1984 Scituate grad said his team showed ‘‘exceptional poise’’ throughout the season and that his team’s run to the Division 3 state title game, ‘‘made [the] community proud.’’ His Sailors also brought home the Patriot League title during a 22-3 season.
Division 4

Daniel Salazar, North Cambridge Catholic

The third-year coach of the Panthers says he was blessed with a team that is ‘‘truly a family.’’ Salazar’s bunch entered the postseason at 13-9, then ripped through the Division 4 tournament and capped it with a state title at the Garden.

Rodney Beldo, Scituate

The Patriot League’s leading scorer (20.6 ppg) played a major role in Scituate’s run to the Division 3 state title game. The sophomore was named to his second league All-Star team and also took MVP honors in the Mazzeo Memorial Tournament.

Jerome Cohen, Everett

Cohen was a Greater Boston League All-Star, averaging 21 points and 10 rebounds per game, and helped the Crimson Tide make the Division 1 North semifinals. The 6-foot-6-inch power forward is closing in on 1,000 career points.

Jerry Cohen, Bedford

The Buccaneers’ No. 2 all-time leading scorer won his third Dual County League MVP award and his second DCL team title this season with a 19-4 record. Cohen, who eclipsed 1,000 career points, is undecided on college.

Greg Hackett, Charlestown

As a threat on both offense (18.3 points, 5 assists per game) and defense (3.4 steals per game), Hackett was a crucial part of a deep Townies squad that went undefeated in the regular season. He’s undecided on his college plans.

Billy Marsden, Central Catholic

Despite suffering an ankle injury during the season, Marsden averaged almost 19 points per game. His tremendous shooting ability helped lift the Raiders to a share of the Merrimack Valley Conference title and the Division 1 state crown.

Tyler Patch, Seekonk

The prolific Patch averaged 29.8 points and 13.7 boards per game this season. He is the Warriors’ all-time leader in points (1,746), assists (402), steals (182), and 3-pointers made (142). He’s undecided on his college plans.

Fernando Perez, Lowell

The three-year starter scored more than 800 career points. This winter he averaged 16 points and 7 rebounds per game while leading Lowell to the Division 1 North final. Perez was named co-MVP of the Merrimack Valley Conference.

Paul Rose, North Cambridge Catholic

The Panthers’ captain was steady at the point with averages of 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals per game. He also reached the 1,000-point milestone for his career and was named a Catholic Central League All-Star.

Dartaye Ruffin, Stoughton

The 6-foot-8-inch Ruffin won Hockomock League MVP honors in a brilliant junior season. He led Stoughton to a 19-4 record while averaging 15.6 points, 12 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks per game. Stoughton’s season ended in the Division 2 South quarterfinals.

Evan Smotrycz, Reading

At 6 feet 8 inches and 215 pounds, Smotrycz was comfortable inside or outside, averaging 21 points and 15 rebounds per game to fuel the Division 2 North champion Rockets and earn Middlesex League All-Star honors. He also enjoys playing golf.
