Skiers of the Year

senior / alpine

Doug Hering, Natick

Hering is a repeat winner of Skier of the Year honors. He finished first in the giant slalom and sixth in the slalom at the State Championships. He also went undefeated in the Ski East League. Hering will be studying computer engineering at Bucknell.
senior / alpine

Amanda Griffin, Bromfield

Griffin attends Parker Charter but skis for Bromfield, which finished first overall in the State Championships and the Mass. Bay League. At States, Griffin took second in the slalom and third in the giant slalom. She plans to ski at the collegiate level.

Coaches of the Year

Philip McManus, St. John's Prep

McManus, a Prep graduate, coached his team to a first-place finish in the Alpine State Championships after a rough start to the season. St. John’s Prep finished 7-3 and captured the Interscholastic League Championship.

Dusty Johnstone, Concord-Carlisle

An undefeated season in divisional competition extended the Patriots’ streak as division champion to 10 years. Under Johnstone, the Patriots finished third in both the boys and girls Nordic state championships, the top finish by an EMass school.

Boys All-Scholastics

sophomore / nordic

Isaac Hoenig, Lincoln-Sudbury

Hoenig finished first in the state championships and was ranked second in the Mass. Bay West regular season. The sophomore also runs cross-country at Lincoln-Sudbury and enjoys playing the cello, rock climbing, and hiking.
sophomore / alpine

Mark McKenna, Wellesley

McKenna finished second overall in the Mass. Bay East as Wellesley went 15-1 and ranked second in the state. McKenna also took seventh in the giant slalom and 10th in the slalom at the State Championships. He also plays on Wellesley’s golf team.
senior / alpine

Ethan Romagnoli, St. John's Prep

Romagnoli contributed to Prep’s victory at the MIAA state championships with a third-place finish in the slalom and a fifth-place finish in the giant slalom. Romagnoli is a North Shore Ski League All-Star and plans to ski in college.
senior / alpine

Jeff Smallcomb, St. John's Prep

Smallcomb won the slalom at the state championships, helping the Prep to a first-place finish. Additionally, he claimed North Shore Ski League and interscholastic honors this season. He plans to attend the University of Denver.
sophomore / nordic

Chris Stock, Lincoln-Sudbury

Stock was the overall Mass. Bay West champion with four first-place finishes in league races. Stock, who also was All-Scholastic as a freshman, is ranked 28th in New England among 16- to 19-year-olds and was named Skimeister at the Easterns.

Girls All-Scholastics

Joanna DeLorenzo, Bishop Fenwick

DeLorenzo, an All-Scholastic for the second year in a row, finished second in the giant slalom and fourth in the slalom at the MIAA state meet. She also finished third in the North Shore League and second at the Eastern High School Championships.
junior / nordic

Olga Golovkina, Newton South

Golovkina, a repeat All-Scholastic, finished second at the state championships. She took first in the Mass. Bay East League and was selected to the Mass. Eastern High School Team. At the Easterns, she took first place and was named Skimeister.
senior / alpine

Alissa Long, Lincoln-Sudbury

The two-year captain finished first at the state championships in the giant slalom and 16th in the slalom, leading her team to a fifth-place finish. She hopes to attend either the University of Colorado at Boulder or the University of Denver.
junior / nordic

Julia Paino, Concord-Carlisle

Paino was a big factor in the Patriots’ Mass. Bay West title this season, and took third in the state championships to aid her team’s third-place finish. She also runs cross-country, plays tennis, and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Blair Robinson, Concord-Carlisle

Robinson is another major contributor to the Mass. Bay West and state power. She finished eighth in the state championships and was selected to the Mass Eastern High School team. A National Honor Society member, she also runs cross-country.
sophomore / alpine

Danielle Scanlon, Waltham

As captain of the Alpine team, Scanlon finished first in the Mass. Bay East standings this season. She also took third in the slalom and fifth in the giant slalom at the state championships. Scanlon also plays softball at Waltham.
freshman / alpine

Michelle Solomon, Concord-Carlisle

Solomon finished sixth in both the giant slalom and slalom at the MIAA state championships in her rookie campaign. She also finished first in her division this season and qualified for the Eastern High School Championships.
