Swimmers of the Year

division 1 / senior / 200 IM

Nick D'Innocenzo, Andover

The University of Texas-bound senior set a national high school record with a time of 1:45.52 in the 200 IM and broke his own state record with a time of 53.81 in the 100 breaststroke. D’Innocenzo is a three-time swimmer of the year.
divisioni 2 / senior / 50 freestyle

Paul Bimmler, Austin Prep

Bimmler finished his stellar career with first-place finishes in the 50 (21.14) and 100 freestyle (46.59) at the Division 2 state meet. The twotime USA Academic All-American leaves Austin Prep having set 12 Catholic Central League records.

Coaches of the Year

division 1

Paul Devincentis, Malden

A 1995 Malden High graduate, he led his alma mater to a 10-1 record and a second consecutive Greater Boston League title. DeVincentis is 98-9 in his 10-year career and is a former GBL (2008) and EMass Coaches Association (2004) coach of the year.
Division 2

Brad Tilley, Lynn Tech

Already inducted as an Eastern Massachusetts Swimming Hall of Fame Coach in 2001, his 32d season might have been his most impressive. Tilley coached Lynn Tech to its first Commonwealth Conference title and its first Lynn city crown since 1976.

All-Scholastics

senior / 500 freestyle

Brendan Fortin, St. John's Prep

Fortin had a strong showing at the Division 1 state championships, finishing first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:43.50 and second, with a school-record 1:56.07, in the 200 IM. He plans to attend Wesleyan this fall.
junior / 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke

Paul Hunter, Andover

Hunter has qualified as an All-American in five events and placed first at the Division 1 state meet in the 50 freestyle (21.15) and 100 backstroke (51.92). The junior also swam on Andover’s state championship 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.
senior / 100, 200 freestyle

Brian Keane, BC High

Keane placed first in every event he participated in at the Division 1 state championships. The Catholic Conference all-star won the 100 (47.76) and 200 (1:43.88) freestyles and was a member of BC High’s first-place 200 freestyle relay team.
senior / 200 IM

Ted Millet, Marblehead

Millet capped a solid career by winning the 200 IM in 1:57.90 at the Division 2 state championships. The Ohio State-bound senior owns seven school records and New England Conference marks in the 100 breaststroke, 500 free, and 200 IM.
sophomore / 100 fly, 100 backstroke

Patrick Myers, King Philip

In his first season as a high school swimmer, Myers proved to be in a league of his own. The sophomore won Division 2 state championships in the 100 butterfly (52.19) and 100 backstroke (53.74). He was also undefeated in the conference.
sophomore / 100 breaststroke

Mike Ren, Wayland

Ren is already a two-time Dual County League all-star and a Division 2 state champion in the 100 breaststroke (59.86). His breaststroke time is a Wayland record, and he also participated on the Warriors’ runnerup 200 medley relay team.
sopohomore / diving

Ryan Shelley, Lincoln-Sudbury

Shelley was consistently dominant this year for the Warriors. He had an undefeated regular season, he was named a Dual County League all-star and diving champ, and then posted a score of 501 at the state meet to claim the Division 1 crown.
junior / 200, 500 freestyle

Jeff Thomas, Bishop Feehan

Thomas did a bit of everything this season for the Shamrocks. He finished first in the 200 and 500 freestyle races at the Division 2 state meet and was also a member of Feehan’s state champion 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.
sophomore / 100 butterfly

Brian Walcker, North Andover

A national qualifier in five events, Walcker has garnered All-American consideration for his 100 backstroke. This year, he finished first at the north sectionals in the 100 backstroke (52.96) and first at the state championships in the 100 fly (52.03).

Relays

200 medley

St. John's Prep

Led by seniors Brendan Fortin, Phil Brady, and Tyler Lareau, St. John’s Prep managed to take home the North sectional crown in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.74 and finished a close second at the Division 1 state meet in 1:38.57. Each senior also posted individual first-place finishes this year; Lareau and Brady finished first in the North in the 100 free and 200 IM, respectively, and Fortin was the state champion in the 500 freestyle. 200 freestyle

BC High

After finishing first in the 200-meter freestyle by a full 3 seconds at the South sectional meet, BC High needed every hundredth of a second it could get to knock off three-time defending champion St. John’s Prep at this year’s Division 1 state meet. The team of Ian Sliwinski, Brian Keane, Tyler Lueck, and Peter Skipper touched first in 1:28.75, barely edging Prep’s 1:28.92, for first. 200 medley, 400 freestyle

Andover

This decorated group of swimmers, including three-time Swimmer of the Year Nick D’Innocenzo, dominated in both events at the Division 1 meet. Their 1:35.30 time in the 200 medley earned them All-American honors, and their 3:10.84 in the 400 free broke Andover’s own meet record. Paul Hunter took home two individual titles, senior Michael Bakies was All-American in three events, and freshman John Belanger joined brother and junior Peter as high honor roll students and state champions.
