Runner of the Year

senior / high jump, hurdles

Corey Thomas, BC High

Thomas was state champion in the hurdles and high jump. He recorded the third-best jump in the nation this season at 7 feet, 1/2 inch. In the hurdles, he had the second-best all-time state mark indoors and sixth-best mark in New England.

Coaches of the Year

division 1

John Normant, BC High

A 41-year coaching veteran, Normant posted a 6-0 record to win the Tri- County League and led his squad to a victory in the league championship meet. Under Normant, BC High won the Division 1 State Relays meet and Division 1 State meet this season.
division 2

Kristyn Hughes, Charlestown

With more athletes, it’s hard to say what Hughes couldn’t achieve at Charlestown. The fifth-year coach and former pole vaulter at Boston College, Hughes — 5-2 in the Boston City League — led the Townies to a Division 2 state championship.
division 3

Michael Darling, Oliver Ames

Darling led Oliver Ames to a runnerup finish at the Division 3 State meet. An 11-year coach, the Tigers went 6-2 this season under Darling. He had previously been honored as Enterprise Coach of the Year for indoors in 2008 and outdoors in 2005.
division 4

Tim Foley, Newburyport

Foley led his squad to its first Cape Ann League Division 2 championship this season. Foley, who is 78-48 over his 15-year career, compiled an 8-1 record this winter and has been named a Cape Ann League coach of the year eight times.

All-Scholastics

junior / 55 meters

Chris McConnell, Andover

After finishing third last season, McConnell set a New England Championship meet record, placing first in 6.38 seconds. McConnell, undefeated for two years in the 55 and a repeat All-Scholastic, also won the Division 1 and All-State titles.
senior / 300

Davis VanOpdorp, Winchester

VanOpdorp won the Division 3 title in 35.90 seconds and All-States in 35.68. VanOpdorp, a Middlesex League All-Star who went undefeated in the 300 and 600, broke Winchester’s 300-meter record when he clocked a 35.45. He will attend BU.
senior / 600

Nick Wade, North Attleboro

Wade rewrote the record books in the 600, setting a Division 2 state meet record with a time of 1:21.06. He also finished first in the All-State meet, running a record time of 1:20.89. Wade will be attending Cornell this fall.
senior / 1,000

Luke Vance, Hamilton-Wenham

Vance won the Division 4 state meet in 2:35.24 and finished second at All-States (2:30.43) and the New England Championships. He also set a meet record in the Cape Ann League Open championship, fnishing in 2:35.7.
junior / mile

John Bleday, Xaverian

Bleday proved to be a distance specialist for Xaverian, winning the Division 1 state and All-State titles in the mile, and anchoring the firstplace All-State 4x800 team. Bleday also was the Tri-County League champion in the 2-mile.
junior / 2-mile

Johnny Gregorek, Seekonk

Gregorek won the 2-mile in the Division 4 state meet in 9:21.96 and All-State meet in 9:19.64. He also won the mile at the MSTCA Elite Meet (4:20.57) and is the South Coast Conference champion in the 1,000 meters.
junior / long jump

Jonathan Williams, New Bedford

Williams won the State Coaches title with a personal best of 22 feet. He also finished first in the All-State, jumping 21-9OE. Williams, who placed second at the New England Championship meet, is also a member of the Whaler football team.
senior / shot put

Dan Glavin, Mansfield

Glavin went undefeated, winning the State Coaches, Division 2, All-State, and New England titles. He finished fourth at the Nike Indoor National meet (59 feet 8 1/4 inches) and plans to attend Rhode Island, Connecticut, or Rutgers.

Relays

4x200 meters

Andover

The Andover boys had a clean sweep of the Division 1 State, All-State, and New England titles. Chris McConnell, Brendan Crawford, Mark Vetere, and Kerrick Stevens also placed sixth overall in the Nike Indoor National meet (1:31.48). The relay team’s efforts helped the Golden Warriors win the All-State title. All are juniors except for Crawford, the lone senior. 4x400 meters

Andover

Mark Vetere, Brendan Crawford, Connor O’Neill, and Rob Martin ran off with the school record in the 4x400. Andover finished first in the Division 1 State and All-State meet and placed second at the New England Championship meet, posting a 3:27.64. Crawford and Martin are seniors. Xaverian

Runners-up in the Division 1 state meet, the Xaverian boys came back to win the All-State meet in 8:07.40. Andy Stillman, John Fisher, Peter Dolan, and John Bleday finished third in the New England Championship meet, running 8:04.97. Stillman, Fisher, and Dolan are seniors.
