Wrestlers of the Year

division 1 / senior / 145 pounds

Victor DeJesus, Lowell

DeJesus was the All-State champion, Division 1 state champion, and New England champion at 145 pounds, posting a 45-2 record this year. He had a 117-23 career record and finished second at the 2008 States. DeJesus is undecided on college.
division 1 / junior / 160 pounds

Isaiah Williams, Haverhill

Williams posted a perfect 50-0 record on his way to the New England, All-State, and Division 1 state and sectional championships at 160 pounds. He enjoys running and mixed martial arts. Williams is undecided on college.
division 2 / senior / 119 pounds

Miguel Guzman, Greater Lawrence

Guzman was 41-0 and won the New England, All-State, and Division 2 state championships at 119 pounds. The Commonwealth Conference All-Star was 174-10 during his career. Guzman will attend The Apprentice School this fall.
division 3 / senior / 215 pounds

Petros Hologitas, Rockland

The Division 3 All-State and state title winner at 215 pounds finished 48-3 and was fourth at the New England Championships. The threetime Patriot League All-Star had a 131-14 career record and will attend Tabor Academy this fall.

Coaches of the Year

Jon Kanavich, Framingham

Kanavich led Framingham to a 23-3 record this season and a Division 1 state championship, a Central sectional championship, and a Bay State League title. The Framingham graduate has a 110-40-4 record in 10 seasons at the helm.
division 2

Carmine Colace, Franklin

Colace led Franklin to a 23-0 record and Division 2 sectional and state championships. He is 417-78-2 in his 26-year career, owns eight state championships, and was National Coach of the Year in Region 1 in 1999.
division 3

Stephen Lemelin, Burlington

Lemelin and co-coach Paul Shvartsman led Burlington to a 30-1 record and the Division 3 State championship and were named co-Coaches of the Year in the Middlesex League. They have a 51-6 career record in two seasons coaching.
division 3

Paul Shvartsman, Burlington

Shvartsman and Stephen Lemelin combined to lead Burlington to a 30-1 record and the Division 3 state title. Shvartsman, a Burlington High and UMass-Amherst graduate, was named co-Coach of the Year in the Middlesex League with Lemelin.

Joel Altavesta, Tewksbury

Altavesta was the Division 2 All-State, State, and North sectional champion. AMerrimack Valley All-Star in wrestling, he was also the Merrimack Valley Offensive Player of the Year in football. Altavesta will attend Sacred Heart University this fall.
junior / 112 pounds

Matthew Buco, Andover

Buco finished the season with a 44-2 record and won the state vocational school title, Division 2 state title, and the All-State championship. He was also a finalist in the New England championships and the Lowell Holiday Tournament.
senior / 130 pounds

Eric Davidson / Natick

Davidson posted a 44-9 record en route to the Division 2 state championship. He was the runner-up at the All-States meet and had a 100-32 career record. Davidson is also the captain of the golf team at Natick. He is undecided on his college plans.
senior / 189 pounds

Joseph DeCarlo, Lexington

The senior finished first at the All- State meet, and second at state and sectional finals. DeCarlo was 41-6 this season and 114-23 for his career. DeCarlo also enjoys football and weightlifting. He is undecided on his college plans.

Nick Flannery, Framingham

Flannery was 43-5 and won the Division 1 Central sectional and All-State titles. He is a two-time winner at the All-State meet, the Framingham Holiday Tournament, and the Wayland Holiday Tournament and has a 108-21 career record.
senior / 152 pounds

Ryan Harding

The Division 1 All-State champion and state title winner posted a 35-0 record in dual meets this season. He had 162 career wins and was a twotime Academic All-American. Also a lacrosse player, Harding is undecided on his college plans.

Isaac Mello, Somerset

Mello had a 47-3 record this season and won the Division 2 state and All-State championships. He finished second at the New England Championships and ended his career with 121 wins. He will attend the US Naval Academy this fall.

Corey Melo, New Bedford

The New England and Division 1 state champion was also an All-State finalist. He is a two-time All-State finalist and enjoys rollerblading and fishing. Melo competes for the Buzzards Bay Wrestling Club during the summer.

James Muirhead, Middleboro

Muirhead posted a 42-3 record and was the All-State, Division 3 state, and Division 3 South sectional champion. He won the Canton, Middleboro, and Oliver Ames tournaments. The Patriot League All-Star is undecided on college.

Walter Pope, Framingham

Pope finished 44-4 and won the Division 1 Central sectional title, Division 1 state title, the Wayland Holiday Tournament, and the All- State championship. He will attend prep school at the US Naval Academy this fall.
junior / 103 pounds

Sam Shames, Newton North

Shames finished 48-2 on the way to a victory at the All-States meet. He finished third at the New England Championships and has a 100-18 career record. He has placed twice at both the New England Championships and All-State meet.

Daniel Telhada, Franklin

Telhada was victorious at the New England championships, Division 2 state finals, and Division 2 sectional finals, and finished fourth at the All-States. He was also part of Franklin’s Division 2 team champion and is 86-12 during his career.
