Brighton boys earn first volleyball tournament berth

The Brighton boys' volleyball team qualified for the state tournament for the first time in school history with a 3-1 victory over visiting Madison Park yesterday.

The Bengals were led by Douglas Mendoza (27 kills), Jesus Lazo (31 assists), Ben Chan (6 blocks), and Juan Nunez (19 serving points).

It was Brighton's sixth win in a row.

Mid-Wachusett: Joe Traverse had nine kills and three blocks as Milford beat Clinton, 3-0.

Baseball
Dual County:
Andrew Moynihan hit a two-run double in No. 4 Westford's 4-3 win over Tyngsboro.

Boys' lacrosse
Cape Ann:
Andrew Sokol scored nine goals in leading Newburyport over Manchester Essex, 18-11 . . . Tanner Hutchinson netted six goals in Lynnfield's 12-4 rout of Georgetown.

Greater Boston: Evan Mula (5 goals, 2 assists) and Ryan Pratt (4, 3) led Waltham to a 16-11 victory over Arlington.

Girls' lacrosse
Bay State:
Moira Barry scored five goals and assisted on another to lead Framingham over Weymouth, 17-7.

Middlesex: Fifth-ranked Winchester beat No. 11 Lexington, 16-10, behind Meg Sullivan's nine goals and two assists.

Nonleague: Elyse Bogacz scored six goals to spark Dracut's 10-4 win over Malden.
